Are you always asked for photo ID at the security gate, before checking in?

I would say on a couple of occasions before checking into the Contemporary my Dad was asked for photo ID at the security gate, when he told them that we were checking in. It happened last month & a few times before, but not everytime. However since they are now checking Resort ID cards for guests returning later in the day, I would expect from now on before checking in that my Dad would have to show photo ID.

Anyway for anyone who was recently at WDW, before checking in were you asked to show photo ID at the security gate?

Always at the Contemporary, but on our past few trips at YC/BC/AKL and WL no.

For the record to no one gets confused I mean are you asked for ID at security before checking in for a vacation at the Resort, I am not asking about when you go for an ADR.

For the past several years, I think we've always been asked.

Yes, ID when checking in and this past trip staying over at the Beach Club even with the parking pass in the window of the car we also had to show a valid room key when returning to the resort. :confused3 We have also had to show ID when checking-in at the Wilderness Lodge, Pop Century all the resorts.

I know what you mean. They did ask for dh's ID at the guard shack into the CR parking lot. We thought it was werid too. We were checking in July 2nd to the hotel, not for ADR's.

We asked the security guard at the Contemporary why they were now asking for Resort ID when returning? He told us they have always been asking for them since 9/11. Well in December 2001 when we went they were, but ever since then expect for Christmas & New Years they never asked for Resort ID when returning. I guess now they decided to start asking for them everytime.

We have checked in with a car service at WL and AKL, they asked for ID from the driver and then from someone in the party checking in, and checked it against a list.

They asked for mine last week as i was getting ready to check-in at AKL. I think it's a great idea to check I.D.'s before letting someone come into Disney Resort Property.

I agree it's a great idea, but the weird thing is anyone can visit a Magic Kingdom Resort on the Monorail line by just taking the Monorail from the Magic Kingdom, Epcot & the TTC. They can also visit them by getting on a Disney Transport bus comming from Disney MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom & Downtown Disney. Plus once they arrive they will not be asked for ID.

This is true and is a huge gap in their security. I hope they can conform their buses to accept room keys or theme park tickets for entry onto the buses. Some are worried it will cause hold ups but if people who are not supposed to be using the complimentary transportation can't, it will eventually make a big difference in how many buses they need and how long we wait. IMO.

I have read some posts where people have claimed they were asked to show Resort ID. I can tell you that in all years my family & I have stayed onsite in WDW, we have never been asked to show our Resort ID when getting on a Monorail or Disney Transport bus. We were never even asked on days like New Years Eve, so who knows? :confused3 I guess if people claim being asked to show Resort ID, it's up to the bus drivers or the Cast Members working at the Monorail gates.

We have been asked to show a drivers license/ID when checking into the Poly the past few years. We are also asked when visiting other resorts. I'm not really sure what the point is. They just look at our license and pass it back. It is never checked against any list.

Last year at the FW gate, DF gave his ID. The security guard then asked to see my ID as well. Not sure why they did this, but we are thinking it may have been b/c DF was driving my NJ plated car and his license is SC :confused3 However, we then switched to BC and they did not ask for ID.

Do you really think this is for security? If so, I don't get this. If this is a result of 9/11, then we can only assume that this is for security from terrorists. If a terrorist wants to hit a WDW hotel or theme park, then they are likely going to pay for the use of the resort of theme park; otherwise, they are putting up one heck of a red flag. I don't see what the ID checking does.

Be serious! Of course not to keep out terrorists!
The more common threat, pick pocket, petty theif or a worse type of criminal. Obviously people renting a room could also have agenda's other then vacation, but more so if just casing a resort out while not a guest there. I don't think the general public should wander the resorts without having a valid reason to be there. Just my opinion, it seems there is an increase in theft at the pools and in the rooms.

I completely agree that there is no real terrorist threat (not one that can be sniffed out by ID checks by security guards anyway); that was my point. However, if all of this started since 9/11, what are they looking for and why? This seems like another ineffective overreaction (like the pointless bag check) Even if it is to keep out petty thieves, what good does asking for ID do? They don't write down the guests (at least they never have written mine down), and Disney invites non-resort guests to come on property to dine, shop and tour. I suspect that this is more about making people feel more secure than it is about real security.

We returned from a two week visit about two weeks ago. We've been going to WDW forever. We did notice on this last visit (and even more so than our visit this past March) that more and more security people asked for our IDS. It seems to me that they are getting more strict. I think it's a good thing, don't mind at all and hope that this continues.
