Are you a perfectionist or a close enough kind of person?

I am usually a close enough is good enough kind of person except this weekend I found a situation in which my perfectionism sneaks out. My dad was a huge perfectionist--everything had to be just so and it drove me crazy. But, the man did teach me how to paint the house correctly.

I decided to paint our extra bedroom this weekend (a lovely lavender in case anyone's interested!) and DH decided to help me. I did the trim and he used the roller. I'm thinking, "How much damage can he do with a roller anyway?"

Well, when I use the roller, I start at the top of the wall and work my way down methodically in sections. I had to practically restrain myself and bite my tongue in half when I saw the man just haphazardly rolling every which way! I was frankly pretty surprised that this bothered me so much! I'm usually the kind of person that if someone is going to help me, I just keep my mouth shut about how it's being done and am grateful for assistance. I never re-fold towels or re-wash dishes after he or DD do them.

Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciated his help--we got it done in no time flat but we did end up having to do 2 coats due to missed spots.

Do you have anything you're a tad obsessive about?

Did you know that DH's method is actually closer to the way you should roll paint? The recommended technique is to make a big "W" and then roll to fill it in...

I'm usually a "close enough" person, but there are some things that have to be perfect...

Well, I was going to say close enough until I read the painting description. DH painted the kids' room when I was pregnant and had no system whatsoever, didn't bother taping off anything. It drove me crazy that he wasn't doing it right - or even neatly! I had been on bedrest for a few months and he had been doing everything, so I didn't feel I could really complain much. Since then, I do all the painting. I don't even ask for his help, because he doesn't see why things have to be done my (the right!) way.

I can't stand drawers or doors being left open and I believe that cleaning (when I do it) requires more than just placing things in stacks so that the mess looks neater (DH's system.) But for most things, I'm not a perfectionist.

I am obsessed about having a clean bathroom. That is nearly impossible since my father-in-law moved in with us. I should say, that IS impossible since my father-in-law moved in with us!

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to loading the dishwasher! My DH will say that it's filled up and ready to be run and I go in and move a few things around and can easily fit dishes from another meal in there.

I'm a perfectionist about grammar. From "Spelling Nazi" to "Punctuation Police", I've been called them all. My coworkers hate me and I drive DH crazy.

Oh, Kathy: Do you SEE how many spots that person is missing? Just look at that picture and you'll see why I can't stand to see it done that way!

I think that photographer was at my house the other day because that's EXACTLY the way DH was doing it. And the first person to tell him he was doing it correctly gets a smack!

Perfectionist, married to a "close enough" guy...not the best combination. Actually, I don't think I'm techinically a perfectionist (how can you be one with 3 kids in the house?), but I think if you do something you should do it well. Plus how hard is some of this? If you open a cabinet, how hard is it to close it?

I hate to say, but I'm a perfectionist, in most aspects of my life. I do all the cleaning at my house. It's easier to do it myself, than stress out because it wasn't done correctly. Stephen is perfectly fine with it. I like the glasses to be arranged by height. Stephen empties the dishwasher, and never follows the set guidelines . I quietly rearrange them and he doesn't mind. I even asked him once if it bothered him when I rearrange, and he told me no. Bathrooms are a big deal for me too. They must be cleaned a certain way. Also laundry. I am a laundry nazi. I never dry anything except underclothing completely. I put the clothes in the dryer for about 5 minutes so they get nice and hot, and then hang them on hangers. Yes, I did this even when my girls were little, but I hung them outside on the clothes line. By getting them hot first, they don't wrinkle as much. I iron every week too. I really enjoy that.

BTW, my car is a pit !
