My father was a cop too, so we had many of the same things...lock windows and doors, close shades at night. I could be working in my backyard and if my parents stop over my mother will ask me why my back door is unlocked..."well, because I am in the backyard and if I locked the door I wouldn't be able to get back into the house".
My mother is actually the more paranoid one. They just bought a new car and sold their old car to one of the mechanics in the dealership...he's using as a car for his college kid. Instead of my mother being glad it's off their hands, her first words were "I hope nothing happens to him in it and we get sued".
And I could tell you a million things like that. I don't know if it's because she's getting old (83) & maybe doesn't have as much to focus on as when she was younger so she has more time to notice and think about things, but I swear she worries about things that wouldn't even hit my radar. It's draining though after a while, to listen to the same things... I am patient because I am sure she was patient with me when I was young and made her read the same story 600 times.
