Are you a hugger?

I'm not a hugger. I don't like people in my personal space, and unless someone's a family member or friend with whom I have a genuinely affectionate and close relationship, don't touch me. There are many people I've met here and consider friends, but if we ever met in person and they tried to hug me, I'd just freeze. It's just out of my comfort zone (that's for you, T&B ).

Oh, yeah, am I ever. I love hugging...I've kissed complete strangers, too...

It's weird...I'm not affectionate, but I am touchy-feely.

I feel weird when someone hugs me for no apparent reason. If you aren't a member of my family, there is no reason for you to be huggng me, either. I do make exceptions for friends I haven't seen in a long time.

I do use the hug smilie, a lot, though. Hmmmmm.

not really no - I used to be MUCH worse about it. Now I can tolerate it without totally freaking out. I used to have some serious issues with strangers touching me!

no one in my family is a hugger.......even towards family members. we're not really a close family, no one really likes each other. so we don't even give a hug/kiss to each other.

but i'm a hugger. probably the only one in the family. i don't hug any of my family members because i know they won't like it. but i'll hug DF's family members and friends of mine.

it's strange. usually i'm ALL ABOUT having my 3 feet of personal space. but usually that's just for strangers. if i don't know you, don't touch me!

This pretty much sums it up for me too...except my "fear" of hugging even applies to cyber hugs (don't use those smilies much)

Generally, no, at least not with people I don't know unless they initiate them and it seems appropriate at the time. I do like hugs with people I'm close to, though, and I'm told I give great hugs. I prefer hugs to kissing most of the time.

Yeah, I'm a hugger. Most of my family is, as well, except for my younger sister who somehow missed out on the huggy gene. She will sort of stand stiff-armed and pat you awkwardly on the back. We hug her just so the rest of us can laugh at her reaction.

Oddly enough, my dog isn't crazy about hugging either. She likes to lean against you but her eyes kind of bug out when you hug her. We also hug her so others can laugh at her reaction--just like my sister.

DH and I happily admit to being a big huggers . Our adult children and spouses, grands, my Mom, close relatives and friends all get hugged hello and good-bye, be it at our house or theirs . Whenever our grands enter or leave they come hug us....even our 19yo DGS hugs me! Our little 7yo DGD always says to me as she's hugging me 'You smell sooo good Nana'! What can I say, guess we're a tight knit bunch of huggers!!!!

I admit....I'm a hugger. I have turned my children into huggers too.....just this weekend my 4 year old enthusiastically hugged a new buddy at the end of their play date.....the other child didn't know quite what to do....I guess he comes from non-huggers.

I'm a hugger too, especially with immediate family and close friends.

As far as being touched by strangers, I got over any reservations about that when I went through 2 pregnancies while working as a district attorney at the courthouse. I got very used to total strangers touching my belly in the elevator. I know that would really bother some people, but I kind of liked it. Most people are genuinely nice and they love babies, so they meant well.

I have to hug my kids and DH goodnight and tell them I love them every single night. Can't go to sleep without doing that.

Perhaps I should rethink that. I'm Italian, we're usually big huggers and it comes naturally to me, but I hate to think I was making someone uncomfortable. I guess I usually get sort of a vibe if someone is receptive to a hug or not, but I've probably pissed more than one person off hugging them when they didn't want to be hugged!

I'm a hugger, too. I'm Cuban and my neighbor is Italian. I ran into her at Publix this morning, we hugged. She came over yesterday and we talked for a few minutes, it's not like we haven't seen each other in a long time.
