I really don't and my kids don't except for the free cookie that get, but what I have to ask, just because I really can't stop myself and yes I understand that it is really not the same, but on the whole, it isn't yours until you pay for it, well do you pay for your dinner at a restaurant before you eat it?

Yeah, I know, go ahead and tell me it is no where near the same, I get that, but the whole attitude of basically it is stealing is just silly. Most people do pay for it. And I bet they have more shoplifting than people just not paying for their snack. OUr managers at tour store see people doing it all the time and in fact they will serve it to the kids when the store is busy, knowing that they are going g to eat it before the pay. They don't care. Another reason I love my grocery store.

I voted no, that is just not my thing. I dont want people's big nasty hands all over stuff, or chewing like a cow over things.

i have never done this, it seems really odd to me. Even if you pay for it at the end it still seems odd. I see people sampling grapes and things like that at the store. I would never do that either. A grape doesn't touch my lips until I have washed it.

Emma Pillsbury, is that you? ;)

I am not a grazer myself but as long as they pay for it at check out I don't care. This has never been a big issue to me.

I've never grazed while shopping, but once or twice when my kids were little, they were hungry enough that I opened a box of crackers and let them have a few while we shopped, paying for the whole box at checkout. I don't see anything wrong with that, but I don't do it regularly, and I wouldn't let them eat something you pay for by weight. All the stores around here offer a free cookie, slice of cheese or deli meat for sampling, so I don't count that as grazing without paying.

Very occasionally I'll get a drink or protein bar to have while I shop but I always pay for it. Sometimes I'll let DD get a donut and when she's done what is left in the bag goes on the belt to pay - sometimes it's just a few sprinkles :rotfl:.

There aren't many things I can say I never do but sampling food without paying for it (other than free samples that are given out) is one of them.

I don't get the grape sampling. Just because the one you test is good doesn't mean the whole bunch is so what's the point?

I don't do it because there are too many foods that I shouldn't have that I'd be tempted to eat. I don't see anything wrong with it though as long as people don't make a mess. I've seen some shopping carts with stuff spilled all over the area where kids sit and that's just gross.

I don't, but it doesn't bother me if others do as long as it's paid for and trash not left sitting around. Funny story though, when DD was probably 9 or 10 we were at the grocery store and she had to go to the bathroom. I sent her on her way and told her what aisle I would be in. When she came back down the aisle, she had a container of soup (from the deli area) and a spoon saying, hey mom guess what they have free soup up front. :) She had gotten a little in the dish and thought it was a sample. We ended up filling up the bowl, paying for it and guess what she ate for dinner that night. :)

I voted Other.

I will eat a grape to make sure they are any good before buying. That's about it.

My family has been known to open a tissue box before paying.

I have had people bring bananas peels up and wanna pay from them after they eat them, I always wanna ask them how do I weight something after you have ate it.

When we are in the store and need a snack, we will pay before we eat it or wait. I WILL Never allow my kids to eat something without paying for it first

How funny! Just as I'm scrolling through this thread, a GEICO commercial with this topic from a "radio caller" came on! (Cue Twilight Zone music!)

The Giant grocery store next to the hotel where DH stays in Virginia has signs on the doors that say "feel free to graze." I've sampled the grapes and strawberries, but I've seen people walking around munching on an apple or a banana.
