Are you a conspiracist?

What? I personally always think it's uncool when one person takes sucker punches at another person. What on earth does acknowledging bad behavior have to do with a weak belief system. I'm stymied by pretty much everything you are saying:confused3

Who was sucker punched? Perhaps I have missed something?

It really depends on how you define conspiracy. I'm not one for tin foil hats or alien hunting in Roswell, but there are definately things I believe are done behind closed doors that have wide-reaching effects.

I do think the internet has allowed conspiracy theories, both reasonable/plausible and otherwise, to reach far more people than they would have in a less "wired" era.

But what place does that opinion have here?

Asking people to believe in something is not the same thing as the definition of the word conspiracy.

If you can't see it I'm not going to trip over myself pointing it out.

Oh hey, I thought this thread was about conspiracies and not religion... :headache:

On that note, my former supervisor at work was a big fan of a lot of conspiracy theories, like that the government orchestrated 9/11, etc. I just think most of it is nonsense. I'm not one to believe everything the media/government tells me, but some of the ideas that people come up with sound like they were baked out of their skulls when they came up with them. :hippie: DF believes in aliens and that the government tries to cover them up, "X Files" kinda stuff. I think it's interesting to think about (and I DO believe in life outside of Earth) but some people just get a little too carried away, I think.

Honestly though, people are free to believe what they want to, and that's fine with me. The only time I really ever have a problem with it is when your ideas get pushed onto me every time I talk to you, or you belittle me for not believing the latest theory. :thumbsup2

Obviously you haven't read The Da Vinci Code.

Small print: I am in no way implying that anything in Dan Brown writes is in any way factual (or, for that matter, all that entertaining!). Just pot-stirring.;)

Then we're in agreement on something. BTW, I wasn't the one asking question's so your response doesn't quite fit.... I don't need clarification on anything at all. Still, if it makes the ping pong stop I'll take it.

I like to look at other views and opinions and then think for myself. I listen to Alex Jones, but I don't always agree with what he says, some of it is far fetched, some of it makes me think really hard. I like to be aware of my rights according to the constitution.
We are free to worship and believe how we choose without fear of persecution. I think the question "Are you a conspiracist?" has become lost on this thread. That's my opinion and nothing else. :)

After the Colin Stagg case and the brazillian student shot in London I am a bit more relutant to take what I have been told on face value. After Colin Stagg was released from a murder trial by the judge there was 10 years of nudge nudge wink wink, he was a murderer who got away on a technicality. The man had his life ruined by inuendo and lies told by the police, well they recently had to pay him £600,000 as they found the killer of the murder Colin stagg was accused of. Also after the Brazillian student was shot they made so many lies about it, he was said to have been an illegal, no he wasn't he was accused of being a drug dealer, no not that. they said he was shot after running away from police while wearing a heavy jacket with wires out of it. The man was grabbed while sitting down in a light denim jacket. His arms and legs where held by police men and he was shot 8 times in the head, and they didn't get done for murder!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: His crime living in the same building as a possible terrorist. There have been too many cases of miscarriage of justice due to shoddy and fake science for me to be happy with eg Dr Meadows and his if a family have more than one cot death its always murder. So there has to be some questioning especially with the more high profile cases where the nearest "oddball" is accused as with Robert Murat and the child Maddie.

Sorry, but that's just ridiculous, princessmom29. Believing in a religion is exactly what MzDiz said - most of the time less plausible than many of the "fact" based conspiracy theories. It doesn't mean that people shouldn't believe in their religion whole heartedly. But, think for a minute - if someone else has a religious belief that is very different from yours, don't you feel that they believe in something that is not true? Because you know YOUR religion is the real, true one? It's the same concept - that's all MzDiz was trying to say - I think.

And people who don't believe in any religion at all would feel exactly that way, and would probably equate religious beliefs and conspiracy theories. It's not nasty - it's just a different viewpoint, especially if you believe strongly in a particular religion.

Exactly. I was drawing a parallel between religious beliefs and conspiracy theories. When you look at both from an outside point of view, it's easy to see that the foundations of pretty much all religions are shakier than any given conspiracy theory.

That said, I am religious, and when I really dissect my own religion, it looks ridiculous.

well that is just a toltally nasty thing to say! Totally uncalled for. Reporting.

Ok. I wasn't attacking anyone or any religion, just illustrating a point on a thread where people of differing opinions were being called wackos. :hippie:

Ummm, no, princessmom29 is absolutely correct. Not only was the statement inflammatory but it was disrespectful and dehumanizing. I noticed the statement cited too, but just wrote the other person off as an unbalanced zealot with a goal and let it slide. I don't think some sorts are worth engaging but don't make the mistake of thinking silence equals agreement. I guess I'm not silent any more though am I? Not cool, not cool at all.

Unbalanced zealot!? Reporting! :scared1: Naw, naw, you're cool, I like you, it's ok....

Speaking as a spiritual person and as a Christian, I don't get these two (above quoted) comments.

I am secure in my religious thoughts and beliefs, no matter what.

Isn't it a sign of weakness in your own spirituality ( no matter what religion or belief ) to feel so highly insulted by comments like this?

I hold absolutely nothing against MzDiz ( :flower3: ) or consider her comment anything other than "hers" and it IS thought provoking for many people.

Right, thought provoking, that's what I was going for. I just wanted people to turn around and look at all the "facts" they take for granted. Open your mind. Religion is one of those things that from the outside looks completely insane, but almost everyone across the planet has one of their own that they, for the most part, unquestioningly accept as the hard and solid truth.

For instance, if I told you that my neighbor walked on water, you'd say I was drunk. If I had a group of people that saw it with me, you'd say there must have been a happy hour somewhere. If I had video and a qualified expert backing up my claim, and a whole community of people insisting that this neighbor of mine was somehow divine, you would still probably think we were all off our rockers. Now, this is a figurative "you" and not directed at any one person, but you see where I'm coming from?

Pretending the term 'conspiracy' does not have negative connotations is not a good defense.

You threw out a bomb, and that's all it was. It made absolutely no valid contribution to the issue at hand. That's as plain as it gets.

I'm assuming you're talking about my bomb. I respectfully disagree with you, I think it absolutely made a contribution. Perhaps I should have elaborated, because it was not my intention to offend anyone. Like I said above, I have my own religion that makes all kinds of wacky claims.

good answer! subscribing :)

The thread on High Fructose Corn Syrup is a great example of how the internet spreads misinformation which is what most conspiracies are based upon.

I love conspiracies, but always look at all sides to a story before deciding on my own opinion.
