This poll isn't intended to make light of a current thread that is running, but I'm just curious to know how important the "warm and fuzzies" are to people.

Personally, I think it's a little "hookie" and not needed and I don't care one way or the other if I hear it or not. We just got back from OKW and we used our car extensively. Every time we came thru the gate we were greeted with a "welcome home" which seemed a little silly. Just give me one big fat welcome when I check-in and that will suffice for the whole trip.

It is very nice to hear, but as long as the CMs are friendly and gracious, the words are not totally necessary. The lack of "Welcome Home" would certainly not ruin my vacation. ;)

It still does make DH and me feel special the first time we hear it upon starting our vacation, though!

I voted "no big deal" either way, because I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't get the "welcome home".

Now, having said that, I enjoy the phrase. DW always says that walking into the WL lobby is a feeling of returning home. For me, it's before that....when we drive up the hill towards the Lodge and see that magnificent structure.

So when we stayed there last year and were greeted several times by the guard with a "Welcome Home" and a crisp salute.....well, it was nice. Very nice.

Would I have been upset or "missing something" if we didn't get the "WH"? No. But I appreciate it as long as it seems to be genuine and not just mumbled. Just like I appreciate someone who says "good morning" and seems to mean it instead of the "g'morning" that is merely politeness.

Just like a good joke.....it's all in the delivery!:p

Forget the welcome home, just have my room ready when I check in.

While hearing "welcome home" is nice, it really has no bearing whatsoever on our vacation. I would rather have an enthusiastic checkin CM who was full of smiles than one who read "welcome home" off the prompt on the screen (which I've had happen)... but I'd also rather not have to check in at all and magically have my room key and number appear in my hand the second I land in orlando ;).

For me, the "warm fuzzies" come several times. First when we first drive onto WDW property. Then when we get the first glimpse of our resort. Also when we get to our room and let out a big sigh as it feels so wonderful to be "home." Then when entering each park for the first time. Also, whenever a CM smiles and looks as happy to be there as we are, when we go over the big drop at splash mountain, when we first enter the top of spaceship earth and turn around to see the stars and earth in the distance and hear "on this, our spaceship earth" etc etc etc, I could go on and on and on about all of the warm fuzzies I get at WDW.

It's nice to hear but it doesn't make any diffenence to me if I hear it or not. Some trips I've heard it many times and some trips I didn't hear it at all. I had terrific vacations every time, though.

I open up the door to my room, step out on the balconey and feel that aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh feeling !!!!!!! I know I'm home and did does not matter if anyone else says so.
Don't get me wrong, its nice to hear the words...but not necessary. It definitely would not spoil or make my stay at home either way.

In December I will have my very first stay at BWV on rented points. I already took the tour, saw what the room looked like, and that's why I simply *HAVE* to stay there.

If I arrive, and hear "Welcome Home" I'm afraid I would be so happy I will start to cry. No kidding !

If I hear it every time I get back to my room, it will be too much, and lose its effectiveness.

Bought DVC Nov 01. Toured Vero Beach Dec 01 and got the Welcome Home. Visited Wilderness Lodge (our home) Nov 02 and got the Welcome Home (would have much rather been staying at WL but thats a different story).

I cant wait to get the Welcome Home when we actually get to stay at our "home". Hopefully Oct 04.

Like my tag says "Im taking the long way home but first Im stopping for my cheeseburger in paradise".

The first "Welcome Home" puts a smile on your face, makes you feel special, do I need to hear it every time I walk in a room? No

I voted no big deal.

I've never experienced a genuine "welcome home." I've only experienced the mumbled or reading off of a screen type of greeting mentioned above. However, for each of our three DVC trips so far, our room was ready at check-in and that to me is much more important than saying welcome home.

I really don't like them...AND I GET THEM ALL THE TIME!!!!

It let's me know that attention to this detail when first arriving, gives me the perception and impression that other details are taken care of as well, to ensure my stay is consistent with the exceptional service that I purchased along with my accomodations.

There are cheaper timeshares, the high levels of exceptional service were a major consideration as a part of this expensive purchase and long term commitment.

but.........after a long trip to get there and a long wait between trips it sure does feel nice when the first CM says it to you. Ruin my trip, no way, I know I'm home and that's all that matters. We will be with family who have never been to WDW let alone a DVC
resort. I hope they say it while we are with them, I'll be SO proud. LOL! We LOVE our home(s)!
:teeth:

I don't care if I hear a Welcome Home but I certainly appreciate being greeted in a friendly manner and that is what almost always happens at WDW.....DVC or not.

Viking, we must have the ESP thing happening! I was just going to post the same poll, except limit it to two options (I was debating between that, and the three you posted).

Anyway, I voted it is very important, because that's the closest to the way I feel. I enjoy a hearty 'Welcome Home', but it is not a vacation downer if I don't get one. It's just one of those little extras that Disney is known for. If you took away all of the little extras, I don't think Disney in general would be what it is.

PS: I would like to see a follow up poll with 2 choices...
1) Would you rather get a 'Welcome Home', or
2) Do you think a 'Welcome Home' is corny, and would rather not get one.

I like it. It is a special greeting unique to DVC -- kind of like a trade mark. I agree that it cn be delivered in a polite script or a truly Welcome Home! But that can be said about a lot of things and my experience has been that its mostly the latter.

The "Welcome Home" that everyone refers to isn't just exclusive to DVC, is it? When we stayed at CBR last year, our mousekeeper left us a note everyday that said, "Welcome Home." It was very endearing, because she left it somewhere different everyday with our stuffed Stitch doll. Now, we never heard anyone "say" "Welcome Home". Maybe that's the difference? Either way, it's nice to hear it, but I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch if I didn't, nor would I expect it.

I agree the whole 'welcome home' thing is great when you have just arrived after a long flight. but it doesnt make my vacation any worse if I didnot get it.. I agree some cm's give a mumbled version but aleast they tried.. I agree with Capt midnight and Lisa f. its all about how you feel ...which is .. we love disney and give me a quick and clean room at 11:30 in the morning when I arrive and I am HAPPY .. dave

It wouldn't ruin a thing not to hear it, but we love it each and every time. It never gets old! DW and I feel like it's one of those things that separated Disney from everyone else. Someone said something about attention to detail in another reply, and we are right there with that person. "Welcome Home!" is the start to another magical vacation.
