No this isnt going to be 'one of those' TR's, we actually had the best vacation ever with many extra thrills and chills sprinkled in, but we departed on this vacation with the idea in mind that this may be it, the grand finale, the last round-up, sayanara to soarin' and that our very own disney quest was coming to a close.

Now, we have been blessed that our last three vacations have had a disney component, first at DLP as part of an ill-fated griswald esqe european tour, then as a good trip to WDW but with several mis-steps and finally culminating with our september twin b-day romp through WDW.

Now, part of the reason for wanting to go back was so many things that were left undone on the last trip (rained out fantasmic, broken down EE, missed ADR's, Waterparks galore and a new little known ride, TSM).

So we had been thinking about our return for some time, but it wasnt in the budget last year, and probably not this year either, then they came out with the what would you celebrate during FD and a double b-day (ok, we had to start planning at that point) then an even better deal with the military ticket offer (thank you disney), so we painted ourselves into a wdw vacation corner....then the accident happened...tbc

Hi KatMark! Glad to see I have a reader!

When I left off promises of a disney trip had been made, visions of Birthday Celebrations danced in my childrens heads and then this happened...

A drunk driver ran a stop sign and a three car collision ensued totalling my hubbies pickup. less than 5 minutes from the house no less. As if that werent bad enough, when upset hubby realized I took his pride and joy rather than my own car that night he was rather upset. One of the first things he said to me was that "Theres no way well be able to go to Disneyworld now."

At first I didnt see how it would be affected, but he was right, the insurance would only pay off the truck, not replace it and we were going to have to come up with something, ontop of the medical bills (which we are still far from being done with), so approx 60 days from our vacation it looked as if it were all in ruins.

Of course we all know a movie doesnt end when tragedy strikes 20 minutes into a movie and this wouldnt be much of a trip report if things ended there now would it?

Racking my brain one day I came across a section of the dis I rarely venture to, that of the offsite Disney vacationer. After a little research I found a beautiful three bedroom with pool vacation villa for a fraction of what it was going to cost onsite. Armed with this and a new breakdown of vacation costs we decided that version 2.0 would work after all!

Of course things just can't be easy for us, and one week before the trip my dad was hospitalized. He had to have his gallbladder removed and really didnt handle the surgery well. I was really nervous about leaving on vacation two days after he was released..

Here are some gruesome photos of the event.....J/K

We decided spur of the moment to take a lengthy detour so that we could see for ourselves that he was ok and be able to stop the worrying. Turns out he was much improved but this detour really threw us off schedule.

We drove straight through (29 hours) and were absolutely beat. We had no problems though and the keys were ready and so was the house. It was so much more than I hoped for, everything was ready, even towel animals on the bed! Of course hubby who was more concerned with going to sleep, grumbling something about doing roughly 27 of the past 29 hours driving obliterated said animals on his quest for sleep before I could get a picture.
I suppose I will forgive him this time!

We all climbed into bed hardly believing we were here and that our vacation had actually started!

As I laid down my head, I couldn't quite relax..something had been knawing at me the entire drive down (mostly at a comfortably reclined position in the passenger seat with pillow and blanket), tomorrow would be the first test, Typhoon Lagoon. My family loves the water and missing the waterparks on the last trip was a real black mark on the entire vacation. Would it live up to their expectations? Would they blame me if it rained and we had a lousy time? Well, yes they would, but would we recover or would the trip be one dissapointment after another ending all hope of a return visit as I had envisioned it might?

Chatham park. It was really close to Disney and with our AAA parking pass we were able to park really close to the gate at all of the parks. I cant speak highly enough about the vaction home. We found it on VRBO but I noticed the same owners advertising on multiple sites. There was also a Wal-Mart nearby as well as every restaurant you could think of. Super location I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Well, I left off gushing abut the vacation home, so here is a quick taste.

the private screened pool was a huge hit both before and after the parks and I think the kids would have been happy with just this!

An Exterior View of the lovely home we enjoyed all week.

As we made our way up to Typhoon Lagoon I was a bit apprehensive. Everyone was looking forward to this Sooo much and I just didnt know if it would live up to expectations. We made our way to the wave pool, OMG this is a great wave pool! They come fairly regularly so you can experiment with what you want to do, also its misleading to be in the shallow end as they take you out below the knees!

Here we are oblivious to the approaching danger!

Image0177.jpg

And here we are in the midst of the action!

Image0185.jpg

We were already having a great time and the overcast skies were really giving us a break! Next we headed to Shark Reef and there was no one there. Well, the first time across I was in full panic mode! I had never snorkled and the entire thing struck fear into me! Plus I didnt fit my mask too well so I had water in it and in my mouth which caused me to panic even more. I made it across but didnt enjoy it, as I was I just wanted out. Behind me hubby was with my two youngest and I guess they chickened out so he didnt get to do it. He looked crushed so I said we would be back and I would, gup, go with the girls so they could do it. Next we hit some of the drop slides and again, no lines! After the big drop I forget the name of it, but there was no way I was doing summitt plummit later in the week! The youngest ones though were upifted by this and figured if they could handle that slide they could handle shark reef! So we headed back and time after time we went again and again! The girls loved it once they figured it out and so did I! Plus, since there was no one there we took our time and really enjoyed everything! It was one of the coolest things I think I have ever done and the kids all agreed! After about 10 straight times across we pulled ourselves away.

We grabbed some snacks and drinks, super pretzels, ice creams etc and then took a ride on the lazy river. I have to say it was a really neat experience! It is so well themed and relaxing! Of course we still hadn't made it to crush n' gusher, so we got out and headed over there.

Just how many words do the eskimo's have for AWESOME! No lines, I mean, no lines, it felt like we had had the place to ourselves all day, but this really set the point, we went up and down the slides, all three, over and over changing family member combo's each time and having a blast!

Image0707.jpg

yeah, I would say its living up to expectations!

Image0703.jpg

Looks like were off to a great start!

Image0698.jpg

Yep, everyone is having a good time!

After wearing ourselves out on the slides and with the park nearing closing we thought we would head for the wave pool one last time on what had been an excellent day. Not only had the park been fantastic, but we really enjoyed the family play time together. Little did I know the first of many small suprises awaited! As we rounded the corner a group of CM's started drawing on the pavement, so we stopped and our kids were taught how to draw characters with water and all got small prizes! If that werent enough, my youngest daughter was picked to radio into the park president that todays wish had been fulfilled and the park was getting ready to close and was presented with a certificate. Now, it was a small thing, the little toys, flower leighs and cerificates plus talking to a guy that we couldnt pick out of a police lineup, but it was such an unexpectadly neat little thing to have happen that just made a special day over the top amazing! As we left everyone was beaming! I couldn't have hoped for a better start to the vacation but I had that uneasy feeling that there was an anvil over my head waiting to crush me. Would I be the coyote or the Road Runner? Too early to tell, but when we got back home and bbq's steaks while the kids laughed and played reliving the day, I couldnt help but to let out a beep beep!

Loving your report...you are a great storyteller...you know how to pull a person in and to it in an interesting way (unlike my dull reporting :rotfl2: ). Can't wait for the next episode.

Ouch...and sorry about your hubby's truck. Our youngest DS's car was hit over the weekend while parked on the street. Not sure if it is totaled or not??? He was home for the weekend with his girlfriend (she drove her car) so luckily they were not in the car.

Thanks KatMark! I cant wait to get to some of the other days! Sorry to hear about the accident in your family too, it's a good thing they werent in the car to get hurt!

What an awful start to your vacation! You really pulled it all together by staying offsite and the home is beautiful. Someday I wouldn't mind trying staying at one of these gorgeous vacation homes but after staying at BWV with boardwalk views (by renting points), we've become spoiled!

Your family looks so happy in your photos - so glad they had an awesome first day!

I wasn't too concerned about our Epcot day, last trip this was our favorite park and it has always been my fav, so I knew someone would be having a good time! Little did I know I would be the one that would have the meltdown. We never did make a rope drop once this trip. We meandered up to the gate around 10am and I was a little worried by the line to get in. I had visions of fast passes given out already for soarin and long lines everywhere. Turns out that roughly everyone in line at that moment was essentially the entire park crowd for the day. It was EMPTY! The economy may be lousy for lots of things, but light park crowds wasnt one of them! As we made our way inside and started to get our bearings, we immediately ran into stitch and to this character!

100_2179.jpg

For some reason, I don't think we had ever ran into Daisy before! Somehow we didnt get a picture with stitch, but the timing was great. Now a part of me was worried about this, I have been accused of being a bit of a park commando and I had to settle myself down to keep from tearing through the park. I was determined that this time we would just take what the day brought us!

ep1.jpg

After the character meet n greet we decided to hit Spaceship Earth. The last time we were here it was down for the refurb so the rest of my clan had never done it and I was curious as to what had changed. Now I know that your not supposed to do this ride first thing, its what the masses do and truth be told there was a small line which made me more concerned about what we would find after we made it out, but throwing caution to the wind we got in line and in less than 5 minutes were aboard. Now I have seen a million of the Foxy Cleopatra photo's so I wont add my poor version here, but we really, really enjoyed this ride! I especially loved the suprise at the end seeing our animated future selves, what a kick! We spent a little bit of time wandering around after we got out and then headed towards Soarin. The plan wasnt to ride it but to get FP's, as I imagined that they would be nearly gone by this point. I sent DH to grab those and the children and I found a snack cart (ummm Super Pretzels!), Hubby returned and I had the roasted pecans for him which really blew him away as he said he hadnt had any that good since we were in Germany. For some reason they have excellent roasted Pecans at Octoberfest and they go great with beer! :confused3

We had 90 minutes til the FP's for soarin so we headed over to an attraction we had never done,

100_2200.jpg

Now, didnt this used to be where they had Captain EO? We enjoyed it, the ride was a walk on and the skunk was a pleasant change from the odors the kids normally make! We went outside and played around the fountains for a bit.

100_2210.jpg

I was willing myself to behave and take it easy. The kids loved it and DH was mighty impressed too, which just goes to show that sometimes its the small things that Disney does that really make the difference. Next we went and reserved our Kimmunicator's for later and then headed for Soarin.

Now there were a couple of things that struck me, first, when we went in you could already smell oranges which sort of ruins the suprise and second, there were no other scents this time. On the other hand we were in the very front which is an entirely different experience! For some reason, the effect is heightened which while great adds an element that is a little knee weakening! After this great ride we knew that once was enough today. We left Soarin and had lunch at sunshine seasons (For a full report check out my DR, just click the link, come on, you know you want to!) and then we went to watch Honey I shrunk the audience. Now, we enjoyed this, even the constant Kodak commercials, but the movie is terribly dated and not on par with the other 3-D Movies.

Next we went and retrieved our Kimmunicator and promptly turned it off. It's not that we werent interested in playing, merely that we werent ready for China. Instead we stopped in Mexico, rode the boat ride, watched the glass blowers and enjoyed ourselves while the kids partook of the first kidcot station, something else that we skipped last time. As we were leaving we also ran into this guy, my favorite character!

SM1.jpg

Up next was Norway and I was hoping to find something I liked with Captain Sig! :lovestruc I really wasnt awestruck though, and there was some celebrity fragrance designer there, but DH wasn't interested in that so we set sail on the turbulant seas of Maelstrom, again and again and again! At first we felt bad skipping the movie, but as hardly anyone stayed we felt a bit better, maybe we didnt need to run out of the theater high fiving, but all the same!

BG1-1.jpg

Now, on our way over Dh had grabbed FP's for Test Track, and about now our window had opened for another set so I suggested he go and grab Mission Space (which would be the site of my complete and utter meltdown later, but I'm getting ahead of myself!)

What do you suppose DH returned with? Another set of Test Track Fast Passes! At first I was a little upset, then he explained that when he went up to the machine a CM stopped him and said I wouldn't do that if I were you. DH responded that his window was open and he wanted to make sure we could get on. Then the CM explained that they hadnt had more than a 5 min wait all day and that he might want to use that window for something else! WooHoo in his ultimate wisdom he put 2+2 together and figured an Extra Test Track (his favorite ride) was in order. Actually at some point we got a third set and rode this three times today, but I dont recall the schlepping manuevar that snagged us the other set.

Image0268.jpg

After this we went over to Mission Space where we decided to tackle the green side. Now, I dont really mind the scare factor, but I am claustrophobic. That said, last time I handled this ride no problems, however later in the week we were on RRC and it broke down, well being in that restraint for that long nearly put me over the edge. So when that restraint came down this time, I was panicky, fidgety if you will. Last time I was able to amuse myself with the controls and watching through the screen, this time not so much. On top of that, there was some problem, we werent doing anything. After about 5 minutes of this the doors open but the console remains up close and the restraints stay on. An announcement comes over that there is a delay and it will be a few more minutes. Now truth be told, if it had started right away I might have been fine, but the delays were too much. Some how I squirmed under the restraint and bolted out of our capsule, to the utter astonishment of the kids who were riding with me. Immediately I got the Where are you going cries! I instantly felt like a bad parent fleeing and leaving them alone and a CM happened to be right there so I made some lame excuse about my restraint and went back in. Bad Idea Jeans episode 2!! They were still having problems and making announcements, but this time the doors remained closed. Now, after a few minutes of this, I am in near hysterics! I begged my children to pound on the doors (I was in the middle) but no one came, I screamed, cried, banged, they banged (and started to get a little freaked out, but they also thought it was funny, so there you go, my panic and discomfort was good for a laugh) but no one ever came. I am not sure what the problem was but eventually our mission was scrapped and we were told that we would be jettisoned to the Orange side. Whatever had gone wrong had nothing to do with my hysterics, and the fact that the very thing they tell you to do if you panic got no reaction made me feel even worse about continuing. I actually lined up with them, but when the doors opened I shot out of there like a bolt. I believe the vapor trail is still visible. I felt terrible, and when they came out all smiles and telling me how it started right away and went off without a hitch I felt even worse for not going the extra mile, but I just couldn't do it. I dont know if I'll ever go back on it to be honest. In all we were stuck on the green side for about 20 minutes and it's not an experience I ever want to repeat. Sober anyway.

After this we shopped for a bit and rode Test Track again, then headed to china to play with our Kimmunicator. This was incredibly neat! The things they have set up to interact with you is so ingenous we had a great time doing this, just one more little thing! We only did the one mission and it had started to get dark. We made it over to Germany for a bite (mmm German Super Pretzels) (beer, wine, brats, you know the drill, and if you dont follow the link to my DR!) We played around the countries for a bit, hitting all the kidcot stations as we went and snacking at various places along the way.

SM.jpg

At some point we made it to Japan and DH was feeling generous so we did the Pick a Pearl and I had it set in a ring. This was a bit of a challenge because they barely had the time to do this before illuminations so we had a pretty tight window to get back before they closed and everything started. We made it as far as America and then back for the ring (my precious!) before the lights dimmed. Our vantage point in front of Japan wasnt the best, but we didnt feel like walking any further at that point and we had a bench to ourselves. The fireworks were great and it was a fantastic ending to a really awesome day, even though I was still feeling the sting from Mission Space. I still feel like I owe Gary Sinese an apology. The rest of the family enjoyed my meltdown so much, they reminded me of it the rest of the trip anytime someone wanted to skip a ride (such thoughtful children! :rolleyes1) but I am at least glad that it was me freaking out and not one of them. Up next, it's a twins birthday party at the Magic Kingdom! What could be better than that?

Sorry to go all Mel HappyHaunt on this TR! My computer crashed and took with it all my photos and I hadnt had time with the holidays to put everything back until now! So, unlike a 1000 of Melly's reports, this one still has a chance of being completed! Love Ya Mel, wherever you are!!

We started off the day at a lackluster Ponderosa bfast buffet, then made our way over to the MK.

889864300310.jpg

The Birthday girls were Soooo looking forward to this! Armed with giftcards they made their way into the shops and couldnt decide on anything, so as we walked back out we bumped into these guys.

The oldest in red is a great big skittish chicken and when Chip and or Dale discovered this they proceeded to chase her around the park, nearly crashing into a marching band! It was high comedy!

We bid Chip and or Dale farewell and went about looking at things that the twins refused to buy, then made our way to the Plaza for a wonderful b-Day lunch!

157464300310.jpg

This was a wonderful meal and the Plaza was a hit. we left here and rode buzz (no wait) then met the big guy for the first time

467464300310.jpg

Now, buzz has a nifty name stamp, and it really speeds up the process, my question, why havent all the characters gone to this?

Unfortunately our encounter with buzz got the kids a little too workede up and they wound up brawling with this guy, everyone was cited for disturbing the peace and hauled away.

791964300310.jpg

Fortunately the judge let us go seeing as how it was a special day. We left and went to the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. This was something we missed last time and werent sure what to expect. It was great! Half of us were singled out to be made fun of on the big screen, and my youngest b-day girl had one of her jokes told by mike! It was such a hit and an extra special thing that made for an extra special day! We left here and rode COP, this was ok, the kids enjoyed it and I hadnt been on it in years, we rode the people mover then decided to take a walk over to the other side of the park. Along the way we went on POTC, no wait, now, We love the Paris version, but this was way lame! The smokey octopus guy wasnt even visible and there is no drop on this version! After this we made it to splash and realized there really wasnt anyone at the park today, no line! ride, get off, walk back through, ride, get off, walk back through, repeat, repeat, repeat! We decided to dry off at this point and rode Big Thunder. After coming through there was no one waiting in line so we were asked to stay on if we wanted. Well we wanted! Again, and Again, and Again and Again! After that we went back for a few more drops on Splash and some pictures that now adorn our mantle. We kept riding until we got ones we wanted, we rode it so many times that we were posing on the ride! This was great, the only down side was the park by this point was getting ready to close for the Sep 15th MNSSHP and for the 1st time that day a crowd was beginning to show. We rode The Haunted Mansion once then made for the exits. We all agreed that the nearly $60 pp tag was too high and that we would have been willing to do an add on to stay but not almost $420.Plus it was starting to rain. In all it was a good park day, but it felt as if we are beginning to outgrow this park. I realize that Space Mtn is down, but we like the bigger rides and MK just feels like a poor fit right now. On top of that the kids have had the chance to go to real castles in Europe (Including the Nueschwanstein sp?) that the Disney one is modeled after, so its not really a draw for them. We left here with a plan though, since we had wanted to go to DQ anyway. This was a fun stop and we spent a few hours here. The kids really enjoyed it and I could see spending a day here on just about any visit. The highlight, the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster's, These were great and a ton of fun! If you havent been here make a beeline for this ride!!! The only downside is you need two people. The only thing we didnt like about DQ is some things like Aladdin are starting to show some wear and tear. We wandered around the shops and the twins started burning through their gift cards. We wandered over to the shuttered PI :sad2: Were there was a street party going on. The kids all danced,

710964300310.jpg

They had a really good time and this was a fun diversion, but so many people were looking for some nightime entertainment, more than we had seen thus far in the parks, so I dont understand the thinking behind keeping everything closed.

Next, the twins got a B-day suprise as they were interviewed on Disney Radio!

910964300310.jpg

This was one more special thing on a special b-Day that nearly had me bursting! Everything was going so, so well that I couldnt believe it was all really happening! I was so happy for my kids who were having the time of their lives and DH was even in the spirit. It was going so well that I was beginnig to worry that sooner or later things were about to go south! Would they? When would that other shoe drop? Well not tonight, we grabbed some incredible sandwiches from the Earl and went back home for a dip in the pool and a glass of wine to end a wonderful vacation day that had everyone on cloud nine, at least for another day!

Up next, Blizzard Beach and a Date Night at DTD where I wonder just who is this man with me and what did he do to my hubby?

Going into the trip I would have sworn that BB was going to be my families favorite waterpark. I went so far as to assume that would be the park we returned back to on our last day. Boy was I wrong! While we enjoyed it ok, it is not shaded aqs well and the pavement is blistering hot hot hot!

We did all the major slides here, Summitt Plummet was a kick, but it wasnt worth the wait for the ski-lift. I cant really put my thumb on why this park didnt work as well for us, the wave pool with the constant motion rather than the more infrequent tidal wave was an aspect we enjoyed at first but failed to hold our interest, even though we scored inner tubes. It wasnt a bad park day by any means, but this park felt more compact and crowded. We spent an entire day here and headed back to the house to get cleaned up, feed the kids and head out to our date night at Raglan Road. This is the nice thing with having an older child with you to babysit on vacation! It is also the last time that we were happy she was with us:rotfl:

We started walking and looking at the shops and we came across these guys.

972574300310.jpg

Now this may seem insignificant enough, but we had pointed out that on our last time through that Minny had an 'I love Hooters' sticker on her lanyard and it was still there so DH had to get a pic! From what I hear, she loves the wings. :confused3

As we got down messing around here DH heads for the DVC kiosk to get information??? :confused3:confused3 Who is this man and what has he done with my hubby? He then proceeds to check with me if it would be alright if we took the tour tomorrow morning! Would it be alright?:cool1::lovestruc Yeah that would be alright! I was so suprised by this that I didnt know what to say. Of course he was going on and on about wanting a place to bring the kids and grandkids and had apparently educated himself via some of the material I had signed up for. Who knew? I thought there was a better chance he would buy me jewelry, than ever go for DVC or frequent WDW trips, and come to think of it he didnt even bat an eye when he bought me that pearl ring in Japan, so maybe I need to be nicer to the guy!:rotfl2:

Anyway, the two of us made it to Raglan Road and this place was slammed. We had to wait about 30 min past our ADR and when we were sat the service was anything but prompt, but we had great seats, right next to the stage.

177464300310.jpg

For some reason DH didnt seem to notice the wait. It was a good meal despite that and we enjoyed the entertainment. As the day wound down I realized that I had gotten the best little suprise of the trip, DH was now a Disney fan!!! Regardless of whether or not we decided to buy into the magic, DH had set it in his mind that we would be coming back and he was open to that being on a sem-frequent basis! Ok, maybe I have already ruined my ending because it would seem that we are definitely NOT DONE WITH DISNEY, but thats the way the trip unfolded, and besides we havent taken the tour yet!

Up next, we take a tour of SSR, learn a few things, are mildly amused and then take on a completely empty AK.

Well, I seemed to have lost my fledgling audience so I guess this TR is going straight to video!

We woke up on thurs and had a wonderful bfast by the pool. the fresh Florida produce was sooo good all week! I so miss it in Colorado! As excited as I was for the day I wasnt expecting too much from our visit to DVC. I was curious about the difference in accomodations but didnt expect hubby to go along, and besides, we didnt have it in our budget as a result of 'this' disney vacation to buy in anyway.

We made our way to the SSR tour an hour late. Apparently hubby had never changed his watch and calculated the time difference wrong (I never wear a watch) but they took us around anyway. The kids played in the club and they explained the DVC concepts and took us on a tour of the mock-ups of BLT and AKV. I expected to Love BLT and didnt and to hate AKV but loved it and DH was of the same opinion. We were also curious about SSR, to which our guide continually badmouthed and even said that we could stay there anytime we wanted if we owned elsewhere. He was sort of pushing BLT because it would be harder to get into, but again, with MK not being our families favorite park and the modern/contemporary design and furnishings leaving us cold we would have never entertained going there regularly. We told him as much so being the astute salesman he was told us that since he had gotten to know us so well, that he would recommend AKV. DH and my eyes just rolled! Way to put 2+ 2 together sherlock, guess the fact we just told you that didnt make that conclusion too risky! We were given 7 (7 of us in our group) anytime FP's which were good for 3 passes each for our trouble and we also recieved free ice-cream which the children were all over (go figure). DH was genuinely intrigued though which really suprised me. Had we had it in our budget at the time I think he would have pulled the trigger. If anything, I was the one talking him off the ledge of impulse purchasing! We decided to see how the transportation was and just missed a bus somewhere. While we will never know, I assume it was the AK bus because every other bus came and went before an AK bus showed back up. It wasnt much of a wait and I was impressed. The driver told Disney trivia and joked with the kids.

We got to AK and before even entering were greeted by Timon, Pumbaa, Gov Cosgrove and a couple of other characters outside the gates.

After making it in, We watched ITTBAB and werent dissapointed then we stopped by KRR next and rode 6 straight times without getting off. We were so incredibly soaked it was rediculous! we (the smart ones, the three oldest stayed on 5 more times) grabbed some snacks then headed for Everest. Once again NO WAIT. Last time we were here the ride broke down so our Grand Finale was a big dissapointment, this time, we had it to ourselves! We rode this 4 times in a row when three wet rats joined us and we did it two more times with everyone, at this point me and DH had enough and the girls went 4 more times (10 times on EE with no wait!). granted, you had to get off, walk around and get back on, but that was hardly a problem! The only downside is we were rushing through the empty shop so fast we didnt get to see the relics but as a blur!

674084300310.jpg

After the kids had been on for the tenth time we drug them away to go on another ride we missed last time, Dinosaur! It was ok. No wait but once was all we needed. Despite having those DVC FP's, we had no need for them so figured that tomorrow at HS we would use them or they would be souveniers! After Dino we were hungry and it was brutal hot this day so we headed for Pizzafari. This was a good chioice, the afternoon parade was going on and the A/C was spot on. It was also pretty decent. After leaving we caught the tale end of the parade and my twins had their B-Day buttons on, Mickey spotted them, pointed to his chest and waved at them while giving the thumbs up! Another small thing, but to have the Mickster pick you out of the crowd was immensely cool!

450964300310.jpg

We followed the end of the Parade and walked onto the Safari, good timing and we saw tons of animals! After this we ran into Mickey, Pluto, Minny and Goofy, which was essentially how the day ended, with one last character meet n greet. for only a few hours at AK, we rode EE 6 times, KRR 6 times (the kids did both more) saw ITTBAB, the tail end of the parade, the Safari, dinosaur and had a really great afternoon! I still cant get over how we utterly conquered this park in such short order. Granted, it was empty, really empty, but it had been the perfect day to take a morning detour of DVC to discover the possibilities.

We went back and grilled steaks and had a nice evening swimming and relaxing, DH for the first time saw highlights of his beloved Broncos amazing opening day win against the Bengals (Still cant believe he missed the first two weeks of the season without gripeing). I just was absolutely stunned everything was going so well and starting to get saddened that we had only a day and a half left.

Up next, HollyWood Studios, would it really be Fantasmic?

We could tell immediately that today was going to be much different than the rest of the week because the park was packed. I can only assume the fact that it was a Fantasmic showing was the reason, but we were prepared and already had three FP's in hand for the day. We started off the day using 1 of the anytimes and grabbing a set of regular FP's for ToT. With he anytime we rode RnRC immediately and then went straight on ToT. It was a solid plan and we were off to a flying start! After this we decided to make our way to the other side of the park to see what all the fuss was about with TSM, but then my youngest saw her FAVORITE character in the whole wide world and SCREAMED in delight, so a quick meet n' greet detour was in order.

If I had known tigger was such a huge deal to her I would have booked a CP breakfast, oh well always next time! We actually got a little turned around looking for TSM, and had to ask for directions not once but twice!

As we tried to stand out of the way DH grabbed a set of regular FP's for later in the afternoon plus our 2nd anytime to go on right away. There was a huge crowd here, and some folks were a little surly! Now, we enjoyed the ride, it's really neat, but I wouldnt say its really a headliner. I dont know if it's a problem because of this park, but the standby time was something rediculous like 2 hrs and there was a mob out front, it's certainly not THAT good! Either way, we left here and went to take the Backlot tour.

Now, this was ok, but I could go another 10 years without doing it again.

Somehow Catastrophe Canyon used to seem more exciting to me. Oh well, we got done here just in time to see Lights Motors Actions which my DH had been bugging me about.

Maybe it's a guy thing, cause he sure loved the heck out of this show, me, I was baking hot and could have cared less. The kids all seemed to enjoy it though.

After this we stopped for a quick snack and then went back on TSM with our regular FP's for the second time. I noticed a few more things this time and had a decent score, though for the life of me, I dont understand who is able to put up those insanely high scores? Just how many times did they ride it? We went back over and grabbed more FP's for ToT and then rode the GMR. Its a lame ride I know, but there was no line to get on, so given that it was a nice diversion. After this we were a little bit torn, we had time to kill before our ADR at 50's Prime time, so we went back and used our anytime FP's for a third ride on TSM. OK, just cause I said I dont think it's a headline attraction doesnt mean we didnt enjoy the heck out of it! After this the ToT FP's were mature but only half of our group wanted to go on it, so they went twice and the rest of us went shopping!

Along the way we ran into these guys.

I love all the street performances at HS and it is one of the reasons we love this park, in fact we were still watching when the ToT group re-appeared. At about this time it was mid-afternoon and time for our late lunch/early dinner at 50's.

This was ok. I wanted to love it, but the food, interaction and service were all less than I had hoped for. We still had a good time, and I'm really torn on where else to eat in this park, maybe it's back to H&V or well have to leave and come back. Either way after dinner we wanderd a bit taking everything in. We really had done all the rides we wanted by this point. We did go into Sounds Dangerous and then shopped a bit more before lining up for Fantasmic. DH was feeling generous (I think he hit his head on day 1) buying Cotton Candies, drinks and glowing things, and we settled in for the show. This was another thing that we missed last time when the skies opened and the rain poured. well this time the weather was clear and the show was...AMAZING! Wow everyone loved it, including DH who was giving a standing ovation at the end! Maybe it's not as good as it used to be, but seeing it for the first time it still packed that wow factor!

Since we had been to the earlier showing of F! we still had time, so the kiddo's went back to RnRC and me and my DH went into a shop for a snack. I came away with fudge, he had a chocolate dipped strawberry and a coffee then we just grabbed a bench and people watched. It was really nice. That is the other thing that we did this trip for the first time, really slowed down and it made such a difference! Eventually the younger ones had enough and we headed out, another successful park day behind us.

Up next, our last day at Disney:sad1: and would disaster finally catch up to us?

Perhaps i should have just lete this thread wither and die. Each day i have debated what to do with it. The clincher though is that i had to finish telling the story if for no other reason than someone somewhere may still be reading it! :thumbsup2

Each and every day of the vacation had been great and i really wasnt sad that it was over as it had so exceeded expectations. So we set about putting the finishing touches on packing to leave our beautiful rental home for the last time. Usually i am freaked about leaving anywhere as i always feel i am forgetting something, but after checking for about the 20th time was sufficiently pleased we had covered our bases. Checks completed we headed for property without a firm plan. Knowing we wanted to do some shopping we headed for Shades of green.

Unleashing the children with what was left of their spending money everyone sought out that one must have souveniere. Nearing lunchtime i thought maybe we would stay there but none of the menus really impressed us. During this it occurred to me that we still had a day left on our park tix and that we could hop over to mk or to the poly for capn cooks. Instead of making the mk choice i thought they would they opted for the poly. Shockingly this turned out to be a great decision! Really, i had wanted to try this place last trip and hadnt fidured out a way to work it im. Usually i have a plan in place for days like this but this one the family bailed me out. Leaving shades we opted to take a bus to ttc rather than drive and walked up. Eventually we found our way to the restaurant and had a really good cs meal! Shopping at the Poly was the next step and while some of us set off in that direction some of the girls were invited to hula dance! We also saw a photopass photographer and got a nice family pic. Eventually we made it back to Shades and then drove over to TL.

We had another great park day until the end when I lost my new sunglasses coming out of Crush N gusher! They did send in a diver to retrieve them, disaster averted!

Leaving the park for the last time we realized that we had too much fun to call it quits on our Disney adventures. We even nearly bought into AKV, although with the ability to stay at SOG we decided at the 11th hour not too, it looks like we have a couple more trips in the future!

We did finally have that disaster though, we broke down on our drive back home! Even this had a silver lining though, as we had driven back through Houston, which is where we have family, so if it had to happen it was the exact right place/circumstance!

Also, due to this we wont subject ourselves to the drive again! Next time we fly, which just may be this June!

Thanks to everyone that followed along, even if my random postings caused my audience to desert me! It was a great trip and what I expected to be the capper on our disney vacations was so good its bringing us back! Nope, were definitely not done with Disney!
