So we've been thinking about going to DW in March and we finally decided to take the plunge. I was going to book Polynesian direct with Disney, but then I heard about renting DVC points. Put in a request with a broker a couple of days ago, but now I see it is recommended to book the Polynesian 11 months out, and we are already at 10. :guilty: Are we out of luck?

No, you're fine. The issue may be for the broker to have Poly points available from someone to rent out though as there aren't a lot of owners there, or at least not a lot renting yet.

March is not a high DVC demand time. Poly studios will likely be open at 7 months out when owners of any DVC resort can start reserving there. For 2016, Poly studios were still open for all of March even at 6 months out.

just curious, did this include the lake views?

I guess the clearest way to phrase it is that on September 1, 2015, 7 months out from April 1, 2016, all of Poly -- bungalows and standard and lake view studios -- was still open for all of February and March, which included the Easter weeks (Easter was March 27) and Presidents' week in February. Throughout DVC's low to moderate season, which runs from mid-Jan to late Sep, the Poly studios filled slower than the OKW studios. However, as soon as DVC's high demand season started in late Sep 2016, and continuing thus far in DVC's high demand season which ends marathon weekend in Jan. Poly studios have been following a pattern of often being shown as open exactly 7 months out, and then disappearing within seconds after the 7 month window opens online at 8 a.m. for any given day, although for some very high demand times like early Dec, studios have been disappearing before 7 month out.

As time progresses and Poly approaches sell-out (which appears to be still a long way from happening), I suspect Poly will tighten much more in that late Sep to early Jan high demand season, and tighten somewhat more for the rest of the year but still remain open during the rest of the year because the sheer number of studios will keep it from filling before 7 months out during that time. Because of the extremely high points for rooms during magic season, what we likely have is a resort that both owners and non-owners mostly want during that Sep to Jan period when there is food & wine, the Halloween party, Christmas decorations and events, usually ideal weather, and lower points for most dates.
