Are we just not meant to go?

It doesn't sound like your aunt is in much danger, you wouldn't save any money by staying home except spending and you wouldn't have daycare either next week, right? I'd go and enjoy the vacation after a very stressful week. Is your employer ok with you taking so much time so close together? Unless your job is in danger, I'd go & just be aware of expenses.

You can't predict life so I wouldn't cancel everything over a small what if and if the worst happens (heaven forbid), I still think your aunt would rather have had you go, kwim? I don't think most people want others to delay life based on what *could* happen.

As a nurse I can promise you that if she's already going to rehab then she's doing well. Something could happen to any of us at any time, whether we leave our house or not. I would definitely go. If you wonder about all the what if's, you'd never experience anything, and that would be a tragedy. I understand the concerns, I have two kids with special needs, and we have almost lost both of them on more than one occasion. Every day, every experience with them is a precious gift that I treasure. But, I strongly encourage you to leave the concerns at the door. Please give your family the gift of your presence on this trip. Your kids and your DH need you to be fully in the moment with them, and you deserve that too.

Hi all.
...so - my question is - have all of these things happened for a reason? are these just signs that we are not meant to go on this trip? i know it sounds crazy but all of these things - combined with the recent terror scare - has me really nervous about going on this trip! does anyone else worry about these things or am i the only insane person in the world who worries too much? :rolleyes1

More realistically....all these things would have happened anyways. Your Aunt's stroke certainly, your laptop (a month never goes by without SOMEONE I know has their laptop die). So reverse your thinking - maybe it was the TRIP was supposed to happen, to counter the stress that was inevitable to happen. It sounds better that way, doesn't it? ;)

Plus, I agree with pp's that your Aunt would feel terrible if you canceled. Think of the great photos and stories you'll share upon your return.

I'm also a "plan for the worst"....person. So I also agree with some other posters that your DH's attitude from the 1st sign of trouble was financially irresponsible. If someone's situation is that bad, that making a mortgage payment was in the wind, and risking putting their family out of a home, seems reckless to me. Disney will be there next year. Mickey won't let you live in his house if you lose yours. There's a time for fun and a time to buckle down.

But I also feel how this would be hard b/c you had friends going with you as well, so you would have affected their holiday as well.

What's done is done. All to do now is be thankful for your super friends, your Aunt is hopefully on the upswing, and everything else is still working for you to go. Although it may be difficult to enjoy your trip as much had you not had to worry about your Aunt, try to push your worries aside so your kids have a good time. With everything that's been going on, they might need some extra hugs, too.

Have a fabulous time, and wishing you and everyone out there a prosperous 2010. :hippie:

CARPE DIEM!!!! Seize the day because we don't even know if any of us will be here tomorrow.

Saying this because it is already paid for. Otherwise, that would be a different story.

Go! Have fun! Enjoy yourself.....it sounds like you could really use the vacation.

I hope your Aunt recovers quickly.

No. Things just happen.
How you deal with them is up to you.

It sounds to me like you have been working hard to keep your life and your family on track and deserve to go on the trip. Good luck.
