our last trip we did DxDDP it was a lot of food, but we also one by one came down with the stomach flu (day 2 - DD5, day 3 me, day 4 DS day 5 dh and DD1)

so it made for an interesting trip.

Our trip in feb we had planned on going with just the DDP, BUT dh has suggested that we try the Dxddp again and try a few of the dinner shows/signature dining.

Price isn't a problem...

Are we crazy?

Everyone's travel preferences are their own. If cost is not an issue and you want the deluxe plan, even though you are aware of the restrictions of the plan should your party members fall ill and be unable to spend the credits, then no, you're not crazy.

I am sure there are some posters who would think I'm the crazy one because I don't use the dining plan at all anymore.

We always do the DxDP cause we always do signature dining and character dining and in the end we always have found that we save money doing the DxDP rather than pay OP for those extras. Have a great trip and I hope everyone stays heathly!

We are leaving this Friday and have the Deluxe plan. We are going to eat at Jiko, Flying Fish, CRT and HDDR so those right there take up 2 credits each. We're very excited to try some new places this trip!

I don't thin you are crazy. We tried the DxDP in May and have decided tha tsince we go to Disney often and we don't do the park commando and love to have down time to eat that DxDDP was the only wayt to go. I am goiong back next month with my DDs and we are doing DxDDP again and same for next May

I think it works if you want to do Signatures, and Shows, or have kids old enough to stay out late enough to get 3 meals a day. It can be overwhelming.

Since you know the parameters of the DxDP, you know that it works for you - even if you wind up losing out on a few credits. I don't think you're nuts! People probably thing WE'RE nuts because we used to do the DxDP but switched to QSDP because we HATE doing ADRs. We don't want to HAVE to be at a certain place at a certain time in Disney. We felt like we were tied to those reservations and had to plan our entire trip around them. That's just not how we roll at Disney! :rotfl:

Splitting it up into 2 meals per day is a great way to keep food levels down while still getting value out of the plan (the 1credit/2credti method), since it seems to be what you want to do, go for it.

I did take a minute to count credits, and it looks like 8 nights and have 25 credits worth of meals planned. Not a big deal, OOP @ Pizza Planet would suffice, just something to be aware of.

yeah - we planned on paying OOP for pizza planet :)

we plan on using snack to fill in for breakfast on times we have l & d planned and for lunch when we have b & d planned.

This is our third trip and the kids do really well with both early mornings and late nights. we typically stay at the parks till 3 then go to the resort and swim/shower/nap/rest and then go out again for dinner. we kinda do commando but we enjoy sitting down in the AC to eat and recoup. We try to do as much as possible but know we will be back the next year and make things we missed a priority then...

however, when we did it in '08 i underestimated my kids' sleeping power (particularly the baby who i thought would have us up every morning at 6am) and had to cancel a slew of 8am b'fast ADRs, and instead had us stuffed trying to eat all our credits during the day/evening while still hitting some great dinners that we were just not hungry for...

but i am seriously considering it for our november trip as i think we are going to bail on doing Club Level due to free dining... so i am thinking aloud (or a-keyboard) here... please bear with me...

we currently have some ADRs scheduled but nothing too exciting...

Fri 11/18 arrive 10am... AK day... dinner at CM 7pm
we'll need lunch so maybe Tusker House (any other TS lunches in AK besides TH and Y&Y?) w/the Nemo package...

Sat 11/19... MK day... 2:30 CP lunch... maybe dinner or b'fast at CRT? ::wonder if it's too late to get an ADR:: (just checked... lunch and dinner are avail, no b'fast... hmm, maybe switch CP) or perhaps SoA or HDDR!

Sun 11/20... DHS day... 3:30 Primetime... hmm... i have always wanted to try Brown Derby and/or ds3yo would be over the moon to see Playhouse Disney characters at H&V...

Mon 11/21... Epcot day... 3pm Via Napoli... so many choices this day... DH is a big Nine Dragons fan... maybe we could do some swapping around and visit 9D for lunch and VN for dinner or vice versa...

Tues 11/22... totally unplanned... soooo many possibilities :)
ooh, a nice late b'fast w/Lilo and Stitch... a dinner show... some watercraft rental... DTD...

Wed 11/23... MK day... no ADRs this day YET!!

Well, after planning all our ADRs around staying CL, looks like i am back to the drawing board... maybe i'll go ask the kids for some input! :scared1: LOL!

I think the benefits of the dining plan is knowing ahead of time that it is paid for, and you can budget appropriately.

The drawback is that if you don't end up using all your credits, you may not have the value with it that you thought.

However, I think you should try again and not worry about it if you can know you will enjoy trying some of those other 2 credit options.

Good luck!

It sounds absolutely delicious and a lot of fun. I really hope that you do a dining report when you get back!!!

I felt I ate too much on the DxDDP just to get my money's worth and being the analyzer that I am, I put it all into a spreadsheet (yes, planning IS part of the fun for me lol) and didn't really save that much if I would have taken out desserts (I normally never eat dessert and don't really have the desire to), and had way too many snacks. The thing I do like about DxDDP is getting the appetizer though. This trip we are going without DDP or DxDDP and see how that goes.

i made our ADRs as though we have deluxe and plan to upgrade sometime after our 45 day mark (so i have more time to get that $ together)...

here are our ADRs/plans...

arrival day, CS & Chef Mickeys

Sat, B'fast at Donalds, dinner at 1900

Sun, B'fast at H&V, dinner at Brown Derby

Mon, B'fast at Akershus, dinner at HDDR

Tues, TBD, dinner at Narcoosees

Wed, B'fast at CP, dinner at SoA

Thurs, B'fast at 'Ohana

which is a total of 17 credits... yet not to "jammed" running to ADRs...

I made mine this am too - got everything exactly when I wanted ;) we are doing a few signatures and not eating more than 2 meals a day...yeah we could get sick again and miss meals, but we also lost money when hubby didn't go to the park 2 of the days last year...sickness happens - this year we are going to take a few precautions - take some probiotics before the trip, no drinking after anyone, lots of hand washing....fingers crossed for a healthy trip :)
