I booked a Mother/Daughter trip the end of July. We've stayed at POP before in a standard pool on the 4th floor. It was nice, but being as close as possible to the food court/transportation is really important to me (bad hip). We both love to be right in the middle of the action too so this time we booked preferred pool. We are also thinking of requesting ground floor. I keep reading about the noise. We usually stay out late in the parks then sleep in. Has anyone stayed ground floor preferred pool and is it super noisy after midnight or before 9am?

It can get a little noisy. Rarely after midnight or before 9.

Perhaps the reason you keep reading about the noise is because people are usually more likely to write about something that bothers them than something that doesn't.

You want to be "right in the middle of the action" so you might hear more noise than if you are far away from the action. I suspect it will not be something that ruins your trip. I'm a "half-glass-full" person - some kids out at the pool at 8AM wake us up and I remember we're at Disney and they are having a blast!

Late night really depends. We've come back from the parks super late to find people sitting at the tables outside of the pool area. Those tables are pretty close to rooms and late at night those voices really travel.

You make an excellent point about the quantity of noise posts. I would have hated being next to the pool when my kids were little and we went back to the resort for naps!

Even after 12 trips we love any reminder we're in Disney!

Thank you! Voices right outside our room in the middle of the night is one of my concerns. I realize the block of rooms I'm looking at is pretty small, I wonder if some are a little farther "pushed" back from the tables. I can't really remember from our last trip and it's hard to tell in the pictures I've looked at but some seem very close.

I would caution you with ground floor. Everyone walks by your room and usually are talking in loud, excited voices, calling ahead to others, scolding, yelling, etc. You are on the main walkway, unless you don't go preferred and have standard, parking lot view. Even then, you have hundreds of people passing by your room. It is quite noisy. I would suggest 4th floor if you can do it with your hip. You could still be closest to the food court & busses, but the only people passing by should be the other people up there on the same floor. I used to request a standard room in 50's section, bldg 1, high floor. I was a few yards from the side entrance to the main bldg Classic Hall, so not out in rain or sun long, and then you are inside, to to go to food court or buses. (I usually carried my refillable mug with me and filled it before going out to buses. It was very convenient.) I was able to use stairs, but you might need elevator. You will still be "in the middle of the action". Disney resorts & parks are staying pretty full & crowded most of the time now, and with Toy Story Land opening June 30, it will still be busy. A mother/daughter trip sounds lovely. End of July, I hope the SA tour groups have left, and you have wonderful trip. Remember your sunblock!
edit: you can see fireworks surprisingly well from 50's section, bldg 1, upper floor, if you are back at Pop at that time.

I would book a preferred room and request building 5 ground floor. That way, you're close to the foodcourt and just around the corner from the pool action.

I agree! If you had asked about the noise level on the ground floor next to the pool between 12PM and 5PM for a quick nap I would have recommended staying FAR away. But between midnight and 9AM not many kids playing in the pool. I've found that after midnight most people heading back to their room are not terribly loud as they pass the rooms. But early morning with families heading to EMH and/or breakfast can get noisy. Maybe staying away from the action is a better option for you.

We've been preferred pool view twice in the last couple years (not by choice, it was the required room for the package deal). We stayed on the top floor. Activities are certainly quiet after midnight. I think ground floor can get noisy before 9 am. We head to the buses well before 9 am my kids are usually running, giggling, and chatting at each other as we make our way. For me, it doesn't take much to be woke up and not be able to fall back asleep.

Thank you for all of the info! 4th floor was my original thought too but we have stayed ground floor right next to an outdoor pool at one of the large WI Dells resorts the last couple of summers and really enjoy the atmosphere. If I go 4th floor I can always request close to the elevator, could do 2nd floor steps but not 4th.

I was wondering about the SA tour groups that time of year too, I've been to WDW in late August but never in July. Think that will be my next research project!

This is only my experience....

I stayed in late August last year in a Preferred pool ground floor. After 2 nights I checked out early and checked into Wilderness a nights earlier (originally I couldn't get all 6 nights at Wilderness so I did 3 at Pop and 3 WL).

Both nights the tables right outside the pool area were so loud. There were 3 different groups that were out there playing cards and doing who knows what but they were loud. The second night we called the front desk and asked them to go out there and ask them to be quieter. Not sure if they actually did but if so it didn't help. They were have grand old time until like 2am both nights. I could clearly hear their conversation.

Not sure if it was just by chance and it would not happen again if we stayed but it has turned me away from pool view regardless.
