Are we crazy? Not going to parks?

We just got a new RV and decided that we would like to break it in at Fort Wilderness. We decided that due to the fact that it will be the week before Easter and the parks will be crazy we are going to make this a non ticket trip. Are we foolish to be so close and not jump in the parks? We typically go during non peak times and feel that we wouldn't get our moneys worth during such a busy time. We know that there will be plenty of fun and excitement without the parks but we just don't want to regret not going in the parks.

I'd probably have to do at least one day in a park, but there is plenty else to do at WDW and Fort Wilderness, and with the camper I think it's a good value. Still, I know I'd be lured into MK for at least a day.

you can always change your mind while there and buy a ticket when there. enjoy your trip however you want!

epcot will have the flower and garden show happening, that may fit well in this rv theme trip.

We went in March and stayed offsite. Felt strange driving around seeing the Disney buses and not being on them. But we also normally go during slow times and I knew my kids would hate waiting in long lines. We did get a little Disney and went to blizzard beach. We still had a good trip.

I think if you develop a plan of all the things that you'd like to do outside the parks then you will be fine with avoiding them this trip. There are lots of things to do like Mini golf, resort touring and Yee Haa Bob shows just to name a few. You can get your fireworks fix by hitting the beaches around MK and you can see the higher Illuminations fireworks from the boardwalk and then hit Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club resort for some ice cream. I also highly recommend the fishing excursion with a guide if that is in your budget, otherwise just consider renting a water craft. To get your fix of the characters consider a resort character meal.

So there is plenty to do without making this a park centered trip. In fact, making the trip a non park centered trip is an excellent way to check off all of those "bucket list" items that you'd love to do but you never have the time to do them!

Have a great trip!

If you go regularly and will have another non-peak park trip in the future, then ENJOY your non-park trip. We LOVE them and make sure to schedule one every now and then. So relaxed, so much to do outside of the parks that we don't miss them one bit. Good for you!

I'd have to do one day in the parks. MK is the one that is worth the price of a one day ticket. Staying at FW, you'd get early entry. I'd go one day and make rope drop. Another day I'd watch Wishes from outside the park. We stayed onsite for 3 nights this summer and did one day in the MK. It was a nice balance.

not crazy at all! Actually a lot of people who stay at the Fort do not visit the parks, it is a very relaxing vacation. Have a great trip!

Are you crazy? No. Would I consider a trip like that? No. Plenty of better places to take an RV if the parks are not an option.

If you don't want to go to the parks...don't. It's definitely not crazy to do what you feel like doing on vacation!

There is plenty to do at FW and plenty of folks who do exactly what you are suggesting. As a pp suggested, head over to the camping boards for ideas.

We took our RV to FW twice and it was a great vacation for us. Strap some bikes to the RV so you can ride around the resort. Enjoy take-out fried chicken from the Trails End restaurant. Enjoy riding the boats to Wilderness Lodge (beautiful place to tour) or go over to Contemporary and then catch the monorail - check out Poly and GF then ride the monorail to Epcot and back.

I can't be in the area and skip the parks (I would personally do one day at MK), but if you don't care about it, then it sounds like a great trip! Do what is right for you.

We will be skipping all the parks for our next trip to OKW and we can't wait! No FP to schedule, no planning parks around ADR's, just hanging out at the pool and doing what we want when we want. Going to be a very relaxing vacation!

We are leaving in a few days for a non-park trip (other than Discovery Cove) We booked a character meal so we get a touch of Disney but I'm looking forward to taking time to do all the things we are always too busy in the parks to do on other trips.

I don't see anything crazy about it! I've never done the camping route, but I have to assume that the resort adds some Disney magic to the stay whether or not you're going to the parks. Enjoy your trip and your new RV!

I can't imagine going to Disney and not going to the park's in the very least to people watch. I know it's a high price to pay just to watch people walk around, but grab a candy apple and relax in the MK. It will probably be a very different but equally gratifying trip.

To each his own. There certainly is enough other fun things to do!

I HOWEVER couldn't stand to be THAT close and not go. I would go nuts. It probably wouldn't bother my husband though. :)
