Are we crazy? Input needed- Christmas

Yeah, you're nuts! I couldn't pull the trigger on going there that time of year. And my kids would shave my eyebrows off in the middle of the night if I didn't get them any presents for Christmas. But that's me.

I am so sorry for your loss.

So from another Jenn in Oregon, do it. Even with the crowds it will be amazing. We did the same thing when my husbands mother unexpectedly died. We did not want to be home for Christmas and so we went to Disneyland, the mornings were perfect and only slightly crowded as the day went on it definitely gets crowded but for us it was a nice way to spend our first Christmas without her.

We've gone there the past two Christmas's, arriving a day or two before and staying through the 27th. Yes, the crowds can be bad, and with Rivers of America still closed it takes patience to get through New Orleans Square and Critter Country, but it is an amazing time to go. There are always options to avoid the crowds... hit rides with big capacities like Pirates or Haunted Mansion, and make smart uses of Fast Pass to maximize your ride times. Also attractions like the Enchanted Tiki Room are good places to avoid the crowds. Also for lunch and dinners make reservations as a lot of walk up food establishments are packed.

Sorry for your loss.

Thank you everyone. I'm trying to decide on the holidays tour. Is this really worth it? Will my 5 year old (who's mature for her age thanks to her older siblings) be bored?

Jen-

We are considering the same. My mom passed on 12/30 and I really don't want to be home either. I am so glad to hear I am not the only one considering this. Following for more tips from those that have been there during Christmas.
I'm so sorry for your loss :(

Hahahaha. That made me laugh. Thank you for your honesty.

Well we pulled the trigger. Just booked our airfare for the amazing total of $745 Roundtrip for 5 of us!!!!!! Booked one way tickets and saved a ton flying into LAX (usually into John Wayne) but the savings was huge. Now need to wrap my head around the crowds. We are morning people so that is good. Will take breaks. Considering the HOJO again and ditching the embassy suites south. Although they have free food lol. Trying to decide on holiday tour and best day to reserve goofys kitchen. (Tradition). Our 5 year old will be thrilled, and I'm sure the older kids too. Going to be hard to keep it a secret. Thank you so much for all your kind words and advice. I sincerely appreciate it.

I like the ES South much better than the HoJo! The free wine and beer and evening munchies are awesome and their breakfast is a full hot meal, not just yogurt and fruit. Since you'll be rope dropping, you will miss the late breakfast crowds. I know the HoJo is a board favorite but I think they have totally out priced themselves. Anyway, glad you booked! Even with the crowds, I think it'll be magical and cathartic.

I'm booked at HOJO in a Kid's Suite, and you can easily find great rates or discounts online.
