Our jan. Trip is planned as following:

Jan.1. Akl- 1 bed (dxdp)
Jan. 2 bwv-1 bed
Jan. 3 bwv-1 bed (dxdp)
Jan. 4 bwv- 2 Bed
Jan. 5 bwv-1 bed (dxdp)
Jan. 6 bwv- 1 bed

We are staying the first night @ akl, just because we really want to stay there but not for a whole trip. We are switching to a 2 bed because the in- laws are joining us for that night and its the only time they could come.

Here's my actual question...how likely is it that we will have to switch rooms @ bwv? I have in my head this perfect senario that they can just open up that lock off for that night and then close it off the next day but MS said this is highly unlikely that this could happen.

Anyone ever done anything like this?

I have done several split stays, but usually only one room switch over a 6-8 day period. I can't imagine switching rooms that often. Why not just get your in laws their own studio? I think that you will get tired of switching that frequently.

We were able to do that once at SSR, but we actually started with a 2BR and downsized. Even then, it was touch and go up to the day working with the front desk. If the resort is even close to full, I would say that it is not going to happen.

If it were me, I would stay at BLT OR AK while having the 2 guests and just stay in a 1BR. The pull out bed and chair are much nicer at those resorts, plus BLT has the extra bath. (not sure about AK) or the studio idea Is great too.

I as well rec. adding the studio for the night your inlaws are in. Maybe it works out and maybe not, but moving twice for the conv of them in the room next door.. so not worth it.
I have never sucessfully stayed in the same room. about 3 times I tried, through renting points, and room type not being avail.

I think the 1st night at AK is perfect. Just leave the rest the same in a 1 bed. I think that 90% of the hiccups have been worked out for the DDP/no DDP so I would think that is fine and I would say go with it.

To answer your question, I've never done anything like this. But from what I gather here on the DIS, MS is correct when they say you will most likely have to check-in four different times on your plan.

You might get lucky, but that weekend is Marathon weekend and Disney is packed. Your 2BR night is the night before Marathon weekend begins.

It doesn't look like the kind of vacation plan that would appeal to us. Especially if you have a run of 11:00 check outs and not getting rooms until 4:00. That's a lot of time without access to your room, not to mention all the re-packing and unpacking.

But if you go in knowing what you could be looking at, it is certainly doable. Good luck. :)

When are you traveling?

Our trip is the 1 st-7th of jan.

I guess i should add my grandma will also we joining us, so that would make 5 adults and one child in a one bedroom....no thanks, i would rather move and i cant ask my 82 year old grandma to sleep in a pull out chair ( not matter how comfortable) but that would be a good option for a future stay with out her. I'm thinking that yes it will be busy then but maybe....just maybe the xmas crowds will have left and the runners wont be there just yet. I know its wishful thinking but i guess a girl can dream....

:goodvibes Well, you asked:goodvibes

Actually, the switch from AKL to BWV makes sense and should be fairly easy. It's the switch to the 2 bed in the middle of your BWV stay that may be more trouble than it's worth.

We have done numerous split stays and I love the option of seeing more than one resort during the same vacation. That being said, if my inlaws were only going to join us for one night, I would rather book a studio just for that night, and add a request to have the studio and one bedroom close to one another. It might be more points depending if you have stnd vs preferred/BWview for the one bed stay, but I think the convenience of unpacking after you check into BWV on Jan 2 and knowing you are staying in that room until the end of your trip would outweigh the use of more points.

To help your cause, while checking in the BWV on the 2nd, I would ask to get a message to the room assigner and remind them (politely) of your request to have the studio and one bedroom near one another.

Leaving it "as is," you might get lucky and not have to move, but why add more stress than you need?

Just my humble opinion...either way, enjoy your stay:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

PKWallaby...

Thanks for the honest response. We have a standard view, and I called right at 9 am @ the 7th month mark to get this so I doubt the SV 1 bed for the 4th is still available but I guess I can check. But then I would need a SV studio as well and I would think that would be pretty difficult to do as well. I may just roll the dice on this one. Even if we could just stay in the same room either going from the 1 bed to the 2 bed or going back to the one bed. that would only be one move and I think that's tolerable. pixie dust please......

I may be mistaken but I think someone will be sleeping on a pull out couch in your 2 BR. For some reason I think all two bedrooms are a combination of a studio and a 1 BR at BWV. Somebody correct me if I am wrong please. I also think all studios have the bed/sofa combo so you need to plan accordingly for that night.
Good luck and lots of pixie dust.

IMO 1 night at AKV is a waste. You check in at 4:00, go out to dinner, go to bed early because you are tired from traveling, leave early to check in at BWV. Doesn't give you much time to see or enjoy what AKV has to offer.

Not having to move on your 2 bedroom days would be extremely lucky and I would not count on it.

BWV rooms do not have the sleeper chair. The 1 bedrooms will have a king size bed in the master and a pull out sofa in the living room. The 2 bedrooms will be a 1 bedroom (with the above mentioned options) and a studio which will have another bed and pull out sofa.

I agree that it is too much moving which will cause interuption to your vacation. I also agree about not enjoying AKL for only the one night. But regardless, if this is what you want to do and you can make it happen, I am sure you will have a great time!

Not to hijack the thread, but if you do the dining plan such that you have 1 night on the plan, then one night off, then one night back on again, and so forth...do you get a new mug each time?

So using the OP's scenario as an example, would she get a total of 3 mugs (one on 1/1, a second on 1/3 and a third one on 1/5) by the end of her stay?

I agree. I would probably do 1st 3 nights in AKL studio and then 3 nights in BWV 2 bedroom. Only one move and probably about the same # of points.

I have that same question, maybe I'll ask it in another thread.

I appreciate the concerns that a lot of you have about this trip and I did ask for your opinions, so thank you but to answer some questions:

As far as the one night at AKL lodge goes, my best friend lives 30 min. from disney and we will be there the night before so it won't be a lot of traveling.
We are not doing a park the first or second day of our stay, so we can take our time the next morning getting ready.

I realize that someone will have to sleep on a pull out couch, the night of the 2 bedroom. My husband and I will offer our king to my grandma and we will sleep on the pull out couch. What I was referring to about not wanting her to sleep in a pull out chair was someone suggested a 1 bed @ BLT or AKL. That would mean there would only be a king (for 2 people), a pull out bed (for 2 people) and a chair (for one person); the only logical thing would be for my grandma to sleep in the chair since she's by herself.....does that make more sense now?

thank you for all of your suggestions

Otterpop (a typo in there will really give you an interesting user name:lmao:): depending on the type of dining plan selected, yes, you will be entitled to receive an addl set of mugs when segmenting your reservation. Our last stay involved a split between BCV and BWV with QS and DxDDP on various dates...each time the new plan "fired", we were able to get another set of mugs. None the less we can home with extra gifts for family and friends:goodvibes

So in the OP's case, she could have different plans added for the segments of her stay and receive so many mugs she will need another piece of luggage to carry them home:rotfl2:(but of course, she would be required to purchase the plan for all members of her family listed for that portion of the reservation...which would then involve more work as you try to keep track of which points would be available at which time...sounds like a spreadsheet would be necessary!!)

Sorry to hijack in my reply...still think OP will have a blast!!:dance3:

Just FYI the days that we have dining it will only be my DH, 2 y.o. And me so it wont be too difficult but yes i already have all dining planned and instead of calling it a spreadsheet, i like to title it "itenerary of fun". That's great, we'll get 6 mugs! Great idea about gifts!

I've done several trips where we've done a triple-split-stay, and I've got to say that it gets to be less fun each time. The packing, (and then not wanting to really unpack if you know it's a short stint) and then the 5-hr. "homeless" peroid... it's just not as fun as it used to be. I understand your reasons for doing it, and you seem to have your mind made up OP.. but this just doesn't sound like a relaxing time to me. Good luck & have a wonderful time!

We'll i'm not completely set on this plan, i just dont know of a better way at this time. I have considered all of the senarios that everyone has replied with and for one reason or another they just dont seem to fit. The best option is to get a studio for my inlaws but thats kind of the whole reason for the trip so we can all be together, as a family. I don't like to take no for an answer so i will probably fight until the bitter end to try to not have to move at least one of the times. I do appreciate all of the responses and if anyone else has a better idea at this time i would love to hear it. Perhaps i feel maybe it is a bit too late to have asked this question because i think room availabilty will become a huge factor in any change to the current plan.
