I was just on II's website and I have a question. Maybe Dean can answer this one. I was under the assumption that since we do our exchanges with II that we would be given access to their website. I know that I can go on the site and check their listings to get limited info on resorts, but that seems to be the extent of where I can go.

Do I have to pay the non-member fee to join? They have registration for non-members on the site. I thought we were members What does signing up on II's website give me for my money? Is it worth it?

thanks

Jon

DVC's arrangement with II is that DVC members are NOT automatically members of II.

DVC holds the II corporate membership and we, as DVC members, have access only to the resorts selected by DVC for trade- all through DVC directly.

Other than having access to other II information, joining II will not provide any additional benefits, since all transactions must go thru DVC.

I suppose your question has been answered. Even I as an II member cannot add DVC to my II account. I know that some of the VC at II don't know this. I also know that one DVC member got initial access to II from DVC including an II number but in the end they weren't able to proceed. I still haven't figured that one out.

The advantages of the current set up are the lack of membership fee (about $79 per year), request first up to 2 years out (most II members can only request first up until the date of their week) and $75 exchange fee (usual $121 domestic and $149 international).

II members on the other hand get the wishbook and quarterly updates, access to bonus weeks, the chance to trade up in unit size, access to II direclty, access to II online, access to the entire 1900 or so II resorts and access to purchase cheap getaways.

What's best depends on your situation. For me, I'd rather just have DVC be a regular member and add DVC to my account. For most members, the current setup is likely best. Regardless DVC is expensive to trade. If you do so, get a lot of get the best in return.

Dean,

That may have been me you are thinking of. I got the II resort guide sent to me last year shortly after joining DVC and even got the II card with a number on it, but (as you said) when I tried registering on the site using that information it didn't let me.

Yes Mike I was pretty sure it was you but didn't want to quote unless I was absolutely certain. I'd still like to know how that happened.

When I first bought DVC, I also called Interval and someone there told that yes I could join and pay one of the two membership fees. They mailed me a catolog and an application. While I was filling it out I came across a question that I did not know how to answer (something regarding week # or time) so I gave them a call. This time I was told that I was given the wrong info. the first time and that they had a special deal with DVC and we could not become members.
