Just wondering if umbrellas are allowed in the parks. I don't recall ever seeing anyone with umbrellas (just millions of yellow ponchos!), but I have not seen anything that says they are specifically prohibited either.

Does anyone know?

Yes they are allowed.

Some of the gift shops sell them also but they sell out fast if it starts to rain.

I spent a day at MGM & Epcot in February as an added day to a business trip. It rained the entire day, I used an umbrella. I just didn't want to walk around in a wet poncho.

I think that yes, they definately are. Last time we were there it rained and we bought mickey umbrellas and used them all day.

I prefer a poncho because I don't have to carry it. However, when I examined the pattern of rain, purchase of ponchos and then tossing the ponchos in the trash bins, I realized what we were doing was sort of odd. It is so very hot in Florida during the summer. We spend most of our time looking for a way to cool off and do so by hitting the water rides and getting drenched, yet when it rained, we ran for shelter and purchased ponchos. Yes, we are the idiots who just walk through a rain storm with no protection.

Just an FYI....They will ask you to close it at the Fantasmic show though.

We got caught in the rain (a downpour) waiting for Fantasmic to start and anyone who used an umbrella were approached by CMs and asked to close them. I felt bad for those people...they all ended up leaving and Fantasmic was canceled anyway.

At any of the outdoor shows, they will ask that you close it. Depending on how crowded the park is that day, they might ask you to close it during the parades as well. We have seen them do this because too many people were either being blocked or poked with the umbrellas.

I may look a little unusual, but I sometimes use my umbrella to shade myself in the summer sun in WDW! My kids think it's weird, but, oh well. I see people buying the umbrellas in EPCOT's China pavilion for this same reason.

I also second Mickeymom. I attached a small umbrella to my daughter's stroller b/c it doesn't have a canopy, and she opened it quite frequently for shade. In addition, when she was tired of it, I often took it off and used it myself.

It is amazing how much better you feel when you get out of the sun -- even if it is only under an umbrella. There were several people in the WS area w/umbrellas -- and no rain clouds in sight.

I prefer an umbrella to a poncho in July and August. We just pick u several small ones at $tree and then there are no worries about if they get lost, break or anything like that.
