Are umbrellas allowed in the parks?

We head down tomorrow and there are a couple of days with about a 50% chance of rain. I know that can change quickly and we have our poncho's packed, but I can't remember if umbrellas are banned are not.

Yes, they are allowed, but I'd be in the group that says "Please don't bring them". The park is crowded and umbrellas just get in the way...not just for you, but everyone else that you wind up poking. I've been poked by many umbrellas, and it's quite annoying. Yes, yes, I know...you get bumped by strollers, wheelchairs, etc...but umbrellas just add to it. Use a poncho, please.

Thanks Robo. And just like THAT the forecast has changed again. Back to 20%. (Bet it changes again, too.)

I understand the concern about the safety and use of them in the parks, and most probably would not use them at all. My DW, on the other hand, hates the ponchos on her hair. We would probably just duck into a store IF the rains came. I was just wondering if they could be brought at all.

Interesting never saw this point of view against umbrellas and never thought of it.
Always have them in the backpack in case of rain and always wondered why everyone didn’t have them with especially in the summer for all the storms.
I would see people standing under cover when it rains and we would continue on and thinking they are wasting their day by not having an umbrella with.
We don’t like ponchos except for extreme weather like a tropical storm with extreme wind.

I am another who would never use, and doesn't like, umbrellas in the parks. When it rains I just put on a ball cap (if it is warm) or a rain jacket (if cool enough) and go about my day.

They sold me my incredibly cool lightsaber umbrella that I use everywhere. It was raining the day I bought it and most people just huddled in the stores. Me I got a head start on the line for ToT.

They are allowed and MOST people are pretty good about being aware of what's around them when using them. Yes - some aren't - but I find that to be the minority.

I'm in the I can't stand being in a poncho camp - I just get so wet underneath due to the humidity - I might as well get rained on!

And I can't stand poncho wearers who have no idea that their totally soaked poncho is in my personal space getting me all wet. Again - a minority like bad umbrella carriers - but they exist.

We are umbrella users. I dislike ponchos. If it's not 100 degrees out I'll use my raincoat but if it's really hot I use my umbrella. I've also used it for shade (as have others)
We've found that if it's a really rainy day the poncho is very inconvenient as you have to take it off/on/off/on for each indoor ride. You end up getting as wet as you would if you didn't bother with a poncho. An umbrella is much easier. We have a pair that fit in DH's pockets.

I am also a big fan of umbrella use, I am not talking about the big golf size umbrellas, but a small personal size umbrella works the best for me.

My DH and DD are big poncho fans and do not like using an umbrella, so everyone has their own personal taste on what works the best for them.

I am very well aware of where my umbrella is in relation to other people, just like I do not stop in the middle of Main St. for no reason either. There is some theme park etiquette that needs to be followed by all.

Visit NYC when it rains. You'll see why umbrellas in crowds are a horrible idea.

Oh sure...make DH stick the soaking wet umbrellas in HIS pockets. I see how it is in the AngiTN household... :smokin:
LOL... well, it's been known to happen.
But, we do have covers that go on them and usually, once they get that wet, we ask for a bag from a shop and they go in there. He's the pack horse of the dry umbrellas ;)

I also prefer umbrellas over poncho and I use the umbrella for sunny/hot days as well.
In case of rain i do close during shows, parades, fireworks
FYI inside the fantasmic theater they do not allow open umbrellas not even while waiting for the show

If also prefer umbrellas in the parks for many of the reasons others have said. Another reason I like it is b/c we are not bag ppl. If it’s going to rain, I carry it closed around my wrist. I try to be aware of my surroundings & have never run into anyone...now have others run into me b/c they’re not looking or are trying to rudely squeeze by...definitely...but that’s probably a whole other topic!

I avoid umbrella use in the parks, but do carry one if rain is likely and will use it if needed. If it is a light rain, I’ll just use a poncho. If it is a heavier rain, I will use both. If the rain is heavy enough to for me to use the umbrella, there are typically not a lot of people walking around - they are under cover somewhere - so I don’t need to worry about poking someone. I use a very small personal size umbrella at the parks.
