Are Transcend CF cards a good choice?

Could someone spare a minute to give me some advice, please.

My daughter is getting a new camera for Christmas. A Canon 5D Mark II with a EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. She loves her 7D and it is wonderful, very fast, great for action shots but a full frame camera would give her more versatility I think. She is doing Sr pictures, portrait shots and has agreed to do a very small wedding for a close friend from college who probably could not afford pictures otherwise. I would not want her to undertake this without a second good camera.

I want to order at least one new CF card to go with her camera.

I'm looking at this -Transcend 32 GB Compact Flash Card 400X (Blue). They are $69.75.

Her current cards (she only has two) are these Lexar Professional Series 16 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash.

Is the Transcend a good choice? Some reviews seem very favorable.

Thanks,

Penny

I've had a few Transcend CF cards and never had any problems with them.

Only CF card we've had fail was a Transcend 16gb. Any card can potentially fail though, just don't go too cheap and treat your cards well and hopefully things will be fine! And fortunately recovery software works wonders these days. :)

We have both of those cameras and use 32gb Transcend cards in them fairly regularly. We've never had a problem with them.

BTW, we both grab for the 5D first almost every time. It doesn't handle nearly as well (much weaker AF, slightly older menus), but the image quality is noticeably better, especially at ISO 800 and above.

Thanks, I'm happy to hear it was a good choice. My daughter has had some major health problems this year (all better now, thank God) and this is a Christmas surprise for her.

Merry Christmas,

Penny

I guess any card can fail, but I just recovered images for another member of the Disboards recently that was a 16GB Transcend SD card. Of coarse it had to fail on him after he got home from his destination wedding! At least we got back about 95% of his pictures. Usually after I see one brand fail, it turns me off for good.

I've been using them for more than a year and lots of pictures and never had them fail so far.

I have a SD card from them. It has had no reliability problems, but it is nowhere near as fast as it is advertised. It is supposed to be a Class 6 card, but can only do two minutes of video at a time before having to stop and clear the buffer. My Kingston cards are faster for the same rating.
