I was hoping that it wouldn't happen. It's a shame.

This makes me sick to my stomach. What a terrible thing...I can't even imagine being one of those families today that lost loved ones, and hearing the monster that murdered their family members is going free. :headache: Can't understand this decision at all.

I've been upset about this all morning. Agreed that he showed no compassion, so why does he deserve even the slightest bit himself? If it were up to me, he'd be in prison until he took his last breath, which would be a far better death than those he caused.

I am talking to a gal I work with about this, and she brought up a good point; this man is dying anyway - what prevents him from embarking on a suicide mission and attacking more people? I highly doubt he has an remorse for his actions, and now he has nothing to lose.

God FORBID that such a thing would happen, but when dealing with people that would do such a thing in the first place, I guess you never know.

I just hope that our special forces (and those of our allies) keep a very close eye on this man as he lives out his final days. :sad2:

I had been reading the headlines, and not really following the story, but saw it was a possibility. Guess I thought/hoped it wouldn't happen.

Its disgusting that he served only 8 years. WTH????

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that on CNN this morning. And I thought *our* justice system was screwed up!?!?!

I agree, it's terrible. I'm generally a pretty compassionate person, but what he did merits no compassion EVER.

I had come back from my semester abroad right before this happened, and it really affected me. I remember seeing on the news where they collected the belongings of the passengers from the wreckage and there had been a group of college kids on their way home from their semester abroad on the plane. There were stacks of sweatshirts and souvenirs/gifts. I thought how horrible it would be for my parents, to be so anxious for me to return and then have that happen. I thought of how much fun those students must have had, choosing Christmas gifts for their families, who never got to receive them. Let the guy die in prison. Even that is too good for him.

I never thought of that. Because he is supposedly dying, he has nothing to lose. He's the perfect candidate for a suicide mission, especially when he'll be viewed as a martyr. This is terrible.

With advanced prostate cancer, it is unlikely that he would be able to pull off a suicide mission. Plus, he's on everyone's 'no fly' lists. Also, he's not the 'suicide bomber' type. If he was, he would have died 21 years ago.

To the issue of 'compassionate release', Generally, these people are so sick that there really is no point in keeping them locked up. They are basically imprisoned no matter where they are.

Further, from a cost standpoint it makes no sense to keep them in prison and continue to pay tons of cash for their medical treatment.

I ignore this- I messed up in the editing and accidently double posted. The revised version is below.

Ugh. I know, I saw it on the news about 30 minutes or so ago. Why does he get to see his family before he dies? Did the bombing victims get to? NOPE!!!

Well he isn't flying home commercial. he's being picked up by Kadahfi's (sp?) private plane. Word on the street is that Britain is trying to make inroads with Libya for oil and this is a political pandering move.

Just for the record.

It is the first time I have ever been embarressed to be scottish.
It is a disgrace and have just wrote to my msp to advise him I will not be voting for him again after this.

As for saving money for medical expenses, we could have saved a whole lot more and hung him more than 20 years ago.

You go ahead and be embarassed. I'm of Scottish descent and applaud the compassion they showed even in the face of someone who showed no compassion.

Isn't this what Jesus taught, after all?

Well, until you have someone you love slaughtered I could not comment on this.
I wasn't aware you had someone on the plane that was blown up in 1988. I'm sorry to hear that.

My sentiment about forgiveness remains, however. It's a lesson Jesus taught that people who say they are followers can't seem to grasp.

I will thankyou, you and a lot of others may be from scottish descent but I voted for this government.

It is my opinion I am not looking for a fight or Jesus lecture thankyou.
