I know that you're probably all asleep about now, but:

If you're from Australia, tell us about your part of the world. It's always been one of my dream destinations and I SWEAR we're going to make there someday (if we stop going to WDW every year, LOL!)

Where do you live? What is wonderful about your area? Where should a tourist visit?

:D

I'm not, but I know Nutsy and her 2 ds's live in Australia. I'd love to visit their country some day (and not just to meet Steve Irwin:p ).

I'd love to visit Australia some day. I have family in Melbourne and Tasmania.

Bumping for Nutsy.:)

Nutsy, where are ya? Another BUMP! :)

We don't live in Australia, but we've spent a month there (and New Zealand). AWESOME countries, we could have spent MUCH, MUCH more time there. We thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but we're planning on going back - need to spend more time in Australia. :bounce:

Anyway, another bump for Nutsy. :)

Our family spent 3 weeks there:)

1 in Sydney, we did harbor cruises, tripped to the blue mountains, spent time at the aquarium, walked around town a lot, spent time at Toronga zoo, took a river cat trip, and went to a great wildlife park.

1 in brisbane with our family. We did lots of shopping and walking around downtown, went to the botanical gardens and the star show at the observatory, went to lots of schools, a great playground built insdie giat Banyan tree roots, and spent a few day on Bribie island.

1 week in Cairns/Port douglas. Took the train to Kuranda and toured the town, did the skyway back to Cairns, did the aboriginal center, snorkeled the Barrier reef, Did a wildlife river cruise in the rainforest, took a trip to Cape Tribulation, took various guided hikes in the rainforest, and did a little swiming:)

We would skip Cairns next time and head staright up to Port Douglas.
I am hoping we can return next August for another 3 weeks.

I also forgot to mention that while in brisbane we spent the day at Dreamland a DL clone :D

I'm here guys!!!!!!!!!! Been out all day & thanks to Tiger Bear who sent me the thread I'm able to read what it's all about.

Dodie there aren't too many Aussies on the boards I only know of one more besides myslef & my boys.

I'm in Brisbane, great place to live & visit. One hour north of the Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise) & one hour south of the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast is quieter & not overun by people from a different culture........can't say too much, but these people are the tourist trade of Australia. I'll PM you with the details of who they are ok.

Brisbane is in south east Queensland on the east coast & in my opinion the weather in Queensland is the best there is........mild winters & hottish summers, but not as hot as some places.........maybe I should say that not all of Queensland is the same........we live 5 mintues from Moreteon Bay calm water & half an hour from the Pacific Ocean (surf). Brisbane has a few islands out in the bay worth a vist.........Moreton Island with Tangalooma Resort & dolphins, Coochie Mudlo...........small island, but not too much there & St. Helena........an old penal settlement, then there is North Stradbroke Island, you can 4 wheel drive over there. Off the Gold Coast you have South Stradbroke Island, nice place to viist & then when you head further north like 3/12 - 4hrs from Brisbane you have Fraser Island & the coloured sands & futher north again, about 7 hrs from here the Whitsundays..............heaven!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful blue waters, Hamilton Islalnd, South Molle Island, Daydream Island & the list goes on............even uninhabited islands you can visit if you hire a little boat & take yourself there. Lots to do up there!

My oldest brother just moved to Australia and is telling everyone to come visit! I think he's near Melbourne.
Maybe we just will, if I can find a good deal on an airline ticket.:)

Nutsy, the way you describe it, it sounds absolutely beautiful!.

If I couldn't be a Texan, I'd want to be an Australian. I really want to visit that country someday

Have been to Melbourne, but can't say I'm fussed.........too crowded for my liking & plus I don't like living right on the street:(

The Victoria Markets in Mebourne are great to visit & the Melbourne Zoo is good too, but here in Queensland, just one hour north of Brisbane is Australia Zoo :p The home of Crocodile Hunter....Steve Irwin!:bounce:

Must be careful in North Queensland when swimming tho.........Crocodiles:p Also, you don't swim in the ocean up there in Summer..........jellyfish everywhere. You wait till Winter till they have gone to swim, the water is still nice in winter here.:)

In Sydney you have the Opera House....nice place to visit & yes Taronga Zoo. You can even climb the harbour bridge (Coathanger).....right to the top.....not my cup of tea, but lots do it! They have a guided walking tour & a guide goes with you, but it's still not my cup of tea........I like my feet firmly planted on the ground thanks..;)

Adelaide in South Australia is known as the city of Churches, very pretty, tho I have never been there DH has.:D

But how could we forget the world famous Ayers Rock (Uluru)....the great monolith in Central Australia. If climbiing is your thing then climb away, they have a guard rail to follow. DH has done it, but I've not been there.:(

Then there is Coober Peedy in Central Australia also............an underground city.........everyone lives underground to escape the intense heat & they mine opals in Coober Peedy also. So much to see & do. Australia is such a vast county:p
