Are there just too many variables?(a little long)

In reading hundreds of WDW restaurant reviews, I've come to the conclusion that there are too many variables in rating and comparing restaurants. Variable #1) Restaurants have good and bad days. Variable #2) restaurants have good and bad dishes. Variable #3) Guests dining reviews are only as good as their previous dining experiences--meaning that if you've never had a burger anywhere except McDonalds, then McDonalds has the best burgers in the world! Variable #4(related to #3), If you come from an area where you have access to the very freshest and finest examples of a cuisine, those dishes will be superior to anything at WDW(Here in Kansas you can get some pretty darn fine cuts of beef, but the best seafood I can get is from Red Lobster). I think the only WDW restaurant with consistently good reviews is V&A.

Very good observations!

I had blackforest cake when I was in the Blackforest area of Germany and it was TERRIBLE! Not anything like our blackforest cake here in the USA/Canada... apparently it was authentic - but it was not what I was expecting :D

Expectations play a big part in disappointments and some people are too hard to please.

Thank You Cass, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. DW and I were disappointed with almost all the food we had in Italy, but the Fettucine Alfredo at Epcot has been a must for us since the park opened. Yet the reviews for Alfredo's are a mixed bag:confused:

You're absolutely right--there are a lot of variables.
Virtually every restaurant at WDW has it's followers and it's detractors--including V&A.
The only real way to know for sure is to try a place yourself, and probably more than once. Hard to do at WDW tho, with so many restaurants!!

I'm from Scotland and absolutely hate Haggis and Whiskey so when I'm holiday I like to try different things. Whilst in Epcot we thought we would Rose and Crown a try. Well, if they served the food in Scotland that they served there I might not have left. The food was very unlike the food that we get back home.

I have to agree that expectations do play a big part in all the places that we go to eat. I tend to use the boards as a souding board and decide from there. We have decided on alot of new restaurants from information I have gotten from this site, however, any negative restaurant reviews that I have read have not disuaded me from visiting a restaurant that we really wanted to eat in.

I think this says it all and not just about dining choices.

One thing I do on this board is find people who's taste seems like mine. The good Uncle is one. I value what he may say as opposed to someone who thinks you can get a gourmet meal at RFC.

And EEyore2u is another--weren't for him I probably never would have tried Shula's.:D

Amen Micca!!! You're exactly right! What I do is read reviews, but take them with a grain of salt. BUT if some place gets slammed 100% of the time, it's usually a good indication to stay away. LOL

I also do what Eeyore2U does and find people with simular tastes and have been pretty lucky that way. Plus if it's some place I just really want to try I go ahead and eat there and form my own opinion.

We've been very, very lucky and I can only recall one terrible meal in the many years we've been going to WDW and that was at Sci-Fi. Sure we've hit some places we wouldn't eat at again, but they weren't unediable.

We've also been very lucky with service, no complaints to date (knock on wood)!!! I think that plays a large part in ones dining experience. If you have a snippy wait person, that's going to effect your mood thoughout the whole meal.

Last trip we went with a rather "un-Disney" friend. When our group went to 1900 Park for dinner, this guy must of gone up to the buffet three time piling food on his plate. The waitress, however, was late getting to the table with his water (with lemon, no ice cubes).

This guy declares that it was the worst meal he's ever had!

Boy, did that put other peoples opinions in a new light for me!
