Are there fireworks at MGM?

I don't remember fireworks at MGM when I was there a couple years ago... but my mom just reminded me we saw these beautiful fireworks timed to music at MGM when I was a kid.
She and I are going to WDW this august, and she really wants to see that show again. I told her I think that show has been replaced by Fantasmic... but I just wanted to verify it with some of you experts here on the boards.
Anyone?

The only fireworks that I remember going off are for Fantasmic..

The last time they did fireworks at MGM (other than Fantasmic) was during a private party last June for the Pampered Chef gathering.

There is a rumor that next year (because of the 30th anniversary of A New Hope), Star Wars Weekends will have Star Wars fireworks. Good idea, since it would keep folks in the park for dinner.

When I visited MGM summer of 1995. Me and my BF at the time (notice I didn't add the "dear") sat on the pavement facing TGMR and watched fireworks go off over the Chinese Theatre. (This was before the giant hat was there blocking the veiw of that beautiful building ) If I remember correctly Soccerer Mikey made an appearance in this show as well (Not sure though)

Yep, that's right! There sure did used to be fireworks there! I don't remember when they stopped them though.

I hate the hat. And for that matter, I hate the thing on the side of the ball at Epcot. Ick.

I want to say they had special 4th of July fireworks last year, but I could be wrong.

There is a small fireworks display at the end of Fantasmic.

The best fireworks on property is Wishes!

I know they had 'Fantasy in the Sky' when I was there for 4th July 2003 and to the best of my knowledge they had it there last year as well.

The fireworks show she's thinking of is "Sorcery in the Sky". If I remember correctly, that was shown until around 1997. Then, when the big theater thing got built for Fantasmic, and Fantasmic was shown every night, "Sorcery in the Sky" went to the land of Former Disney Shows and Attractions. For a while, they'd still bring SITS out for holidays, but eventually not at all.

yes!!!! sorcery in the sky! that's the show. so, i was right. it went by the wayside because of fantasmic. too bad. i'm remembering it more clearly now, and it was the best fireworks display i've ever seen. in fact, it's one of my first memories of WDW as a child. my mom and i are disappointed to hear it is a thing of the past. but we will charge on as loyal disney troopers and still have a blast. THANKS EVERYONE for the help!

To the best of my knowledge, MGM now has a fireworks display twice a year (special private events like the Pampered Chef thing mentioned upthread notwithstanding): July 4 and December 31.
