Are there ever discounts on the auto train?

Subject says it all. We are trying to find the fastest but cheapest way to get down to Orlando over Easter.

Don't know if auto train is that fast. Co-worker took regular amtrak out of NJ (because they didn't want to drive to VA to pick up the auto train) and they said they would never do it again. after the novelty of the train wore off, it took forever (they are used to flying from Newark)

I am a fan of the auto train. It takes about 16 hours but 8 to 10 them you are asleep. At least I am. I do the sleeper car. Best sleep ever. I can only recommend purchasing tickets early. It is not like airlines, the price goes up as you get closer to the trip.

I love having all my stuff in my car. It is only worth it though, if you are staying for longer than a week. Of course I work about 15 minutes away so I can also work a full day before going.

You can try Amtrak guest rewards, if you have hotel rewards points you can trade them in for Amtrak guest rewards points and get train tickets.

Also you can do a search for train discounts, etc on that thread and others on that board. There are sometimes kids ride for $99 type offers during the summer, but the Auto Train doesn't offer many and it doesn't have to because it's so heavily used.

We love the train and will be taking our fourth trip in Oct. There are several of us on that board that have taken several trips.

There's no discount on the auto portion, but AAA gets you a small discount on the passengers.
