HI, I am going to WDW this coming week with my good friend who is about 250lbs. When we went to Six Flags there were a few rides that she didn't fit on(the bar wouldnt click in). This is her first time at WDW and I dont want her to be embarrassed when going on the rides so I wanted to know if anyone has had problems fitting in them? THanks!

I am quite a bit larger than your friend and was able to ride everything. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to PM me.

I am a pretty big guy - 6'3" with about a 45" inch waist and 50" chest. The one ride that I would be most concerned with is Rock n Roller Coaster. The over-the-shoulder bars can be a problem. At Six Flags Fiesta Texas I was very uncomfortable on Superman Krypton Coaster as well as some other rides. I was able to ride all the rides at WDW, though. I don't know about Mission Space because we haven't been on it before.

Oh, Space Mountain is a VERY tight fit.

At one point, there was a discussion on a forum for pooh-sized people, but I don't think that ever materialized.

I'm 5'6 and about the same weight as your friend. I don't have any problem with Rock 'n Rollercoaster, but I do have a bit of a problem with rides that require me to buckle a seatbelt, like Tower of Terror, Test Track, Dinosaur and Star Tours. This is exacerbated if I'm wearing a fanny pack because it makes it that much harder to see. I'm always afraid they're going to start the ride before I'm buckled in! Mousebrat is right, Space Mountain is a very tight fit.

I didn't have any problem with Mission:Space. Most of the other rides, where there's just a lap bar shouldn't be tough. If she's just prepared for the possibility that she may need a few extra seconds for seatbelts, though, your Pooh-sized friend shouldn't have a problem.

Hope you both have a great time!

I'm large and have had problems at other parks but none at Disney.

go to allearsnet.com and click to the left on the
wdw at large. It'll make you feel more comfortable.

First of all, let me say that if a ride exists in WDW that a large person can't get on, I haven't found it yet and I am nearly 300 lbs.

I have never had a problem with any of them but I have been concerned when a smaller person sits next to me on a "bar" type ride because it comes down to fit me and they are left with a lot of space open.

A hint for the "seat belt" type rides. I had that problem of getting the belt around me in time to have the ride start. If you don't get it right the first time you have to keep retracting the belt and starting over. The solution was to grab the belt before sitting down and pull it out to the max. Hold it all the way out by grabbing it at the base or feed area until you have become seated and can then pull all the belt around and buckle it easily. Let go with your other hand and you are on your way. Easy and no embarrassment. Works like a charm! Enjoy!

Thanks, Goofyernmost! I appreciate the tip! I'll definitely use your method for dealing with seatbelts on my next trip which is in ***15 days!!!*** :Pinkbounc

I'm the one working on information for pooh-sized people.

It's still coming! I've just been sidetracked because my wedding is in just a few weeks.

Once the wedding and honeymoon are done, I promise I'll get back on top of doing the information for pooh-sized folks!

As for your friend, a weight doesn't always help. Height, and measurements is usually the best way to help judge.

But generally, Walt Disney World is very accomodating for people of size. I'm 6'2", and when I went as pooh-sized, I was 352 pounds, with a 54 inch waist. I'm not entirely sure what my chest size was. There was nothing, (and I mean nothing) I had a problem with.

I didn't go on Astro Orbiter, or Dumbo, so I can't comment on those. I also didn't try the Tower of Terror until later, but it doesn't matter, because they changed the restraint systems anyway! :) I also didn't try Splash Mountain, because it was out for rehab.

The only thing that I had a "problem" with was Space Mountain. It's not that I didn't fit, it just took some element of grace and decorum to get in without making myself look like a complete fool! :)

Your friend should be fine.

Thanks for all of your replies! As far as Space Mountain is concerned, do you think she will be able to take her 7 year old on with her?? I know he will not ride alone! Thanks again!

I second what dan posted. That site helped me feel like I knew what I was going to face with every ride and just in general made me feel confident that the rides I picked would be " OK ".

The only concern about my weight down in WDW is how uncomfortable I am getting on and off the ride! I hate it! Every year I say I will not weigh this much next year, but guess what? Anyway....

I don't think there are any rides that have a safety concern based on being too large.

When you ride with a child/smaller person on some rides, the CM will tell the larger person to sit on the outside ( I can't think of the ride, but I know it happened on one ride, I was on the inside with my 4 yo, and she told me to sit on the outside)

The cars on Space Mountain are Tandem. So, yes, she will be able to go on with her 7 yo. She will be sitting behind him. He will have his own seat, so she won't be crowding him or anything.

Tell her to have FUN!

My husband is tall and about the weight of your friend and he can't ride, or doesn't feel comfortable riding, the Astro Orbiters in the Magic Kingdom.

When my daughter rode Big Thunder Mtn. with me, I just about squished her. Just be careful about that. Anything that slings you around side to side can be uncomfortable.

On Thunder Mountain have the larger person get in first.

One ride, not that you cant get in, but I just find it uncomfortable to get out of because of sore knees is the race cars. You butt is practically on the ground in those things.

Thanks again! I just checked out the WDW at Large website and it was a big help!

I had a similar question as well. My DBF is 6'5" and 245 and I am 5'9" and (let's just say not small.) I am thinking about rides where you sit side by side, Big Thunder Mountain, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Splash Mountain, etc... I haven't been to WDW in 7 years so I am having a hard time picturing how wide the bench seats are. I'm thinking Dumbo and Astro Orbiter are the main concerns. Anyone know if 2 TALL adults can normally fit side by side on these? The biggest issue we usually have is DBF's knees being too high for the bar to come down at amusement parks, etc... He normally has to sit sorta sideways and put his legs behind or under mine. It's a pretty funny sight sometimes :teeth:
