Are there any "Medium Length" Disney races anymore?

I would like to find something around 10-15K. It looks like they retire the Race for the Taste and the Tower of Terror 13K have been retired. Are there any options between 5K and half marathon anymore?

Unfortunately the only race that sort of offers that is if you do the relay option for the Wine and Dine Race. Everything else is either a 5k, Half or Marathon.

Here is the brief description.

Runner 1 will complete an 8K and Runner 2 will finish a 13K. Both runners will enjoy the exclusive after-hours Epcot International Food & Wine Festival along with an inaugural relay finisher medal for each runner!

Good Luck!

Does anyone know if disney plans to come up with a race to replace the tower of terror? Maybe there's hope for a medium length race... I feel like wine and dine took the spot of race for the taste, but is close to Halloween... So is it supposed to replacing both?

I think it is replacing both. WDW makes the most money on the 1/2 marathon races.

Its a shame Disney took away the "medium length" races because for what they charge for their 5k's considering that it isn't timed is rediculous. Some people want to do Disney races but not be ready for a half or full but want something more than a $40 non-timed 5k. But I am assuming Disney did it for "financial" reasons.

I personally think the same. Notice there was no after race party this year after the princess... I called and asked, and they said there is the flower and garden going on at epcot..... That's always going on at springtime, and last year they had the after party for the race... Also last year I think they had discounts for people who stayed at the resorts w/ race shuttles, didnt they? Cause I know they didn't have them this year...

I would love to do a girls weekend with my running buddies- but we are all at different levels- we have a few marathoners and half marathoners- then a couple of us who like anything from 10K to 10 miles. The marathon relay does seem to address that need- but you need a very specific breakdown of people to make it work (even number- half willing to do the short leg, half willing to the long leg) and it just doesn't sync with my group.

I think the problem they were having with the shorter races is a lot of people couldn't justify going down for them. I know that as much as I wanted to do both the RFtT and ToT I couldn't justify going down for the shorter races. The relay option for the Wine & Dine is taking filling the in between gap for now.

If someone wants to do a running trip to Disney they can look in the area for non-Disney races and add them to the itinerary. Last May my brother and I took my mom down for the Podcast cruise and a couple of days in the park for Mother's day. I don't like to go anywhere without adding a race into the trip and there were no Disney races. I found one in Lakeland for Saturday night and went over and did that. I would suggest checking for a local 8 or 10K off of property and add that to the trip.

I too agree that Disney has probably done way with the shorter races due to lower attendance. I've done the ToT and EC but the costs for airfare, hotel, etc, make it cost prohibitive to return year after year. Likewise, I would probably never consider flying down to Orlando just for a 5k race, especially when I consider that on any given weekend from the beginning of spring through the beginning of winter I have my choice of several 5ks and often 10ks here at home.

On the other hand, hubby and I have been doing the January races for over 11 years and I've done both Princesses. Combine this with the fact the half marathon is now the most popular racing distance after the 5k, here in the states.

I think Disney is simply catering to the "demands" of the racing community and offerring them what the majority is looking for.

Colleen is right in the fact that the shorter races aren't "destination" races where Disney makes the real money of hotel, food, park tickets, etc. They want races where they can bundle post race parties driving up the costs.

I think Disney will continue to create and kill races. The die hards want the "Inaugural" medals will come to all the new races where they stop after year 2 or 3.

Robert, do you think this will be the last expedition everest?

Becky

EEC will have a chance to survive since it still has post race event and it will be year two at new date.

That being said, this "last chance" date change may not save it if numbers don't pick up.
