I know there are plenty of scams and such, but I was wondering if anybody here has found something REAL that can be done at home?

I tried to post a similar thread a little while back and sadly I think the answer is "NO" unless you're interested in selling something.....I got lots of PMs about Mary Kay, Avon, Tupperware, Melaleuca, Party Lite, you name it and someone on this board sells it!

I'm also interested in a non-selling home job. I don't have any formal training in travel or medical transcription which are the only 2 legit things I found so far.

If anybody has any ideas I'd also love to hear them!Sorry to hijack your thread

I wish! I am always on the look out for something. Medical billing if you can partner with a medical practice is one I have heard of but there is an initial investment for software. My employer lets me work around my husband so the kids are always with one of us! I am looking forward to being able to work when the kids are in school. We need the money.

I had tried to work full time when I started there, but could not do it to my kids (daycare all day) and I was missing all kinds of work over it, so my boss was happy about the idea of me staying so she wouldn't have to train someone else so she just let me job share with a woman who was flexible. I am lucky. It also helps that my husband can work in the evening so he can be there with them at least some mornings.

My sister had such a job for YEARS! (Fourteen, I think).

She folded and boxed surgical hats. She was paid so much for each box. Her then husband worked at the same company (he repaired the sewing machines). She would drive there, pick up her supplies (for the whole week) and not drive back until her load was done. She did this so she could be at home when her kids were young and she just kept on doing it. Even after she got divorced, she folded hats while she was taking courses to refresh her office skills.

She now works in a doctor's office.

This type of work is just like an assembly line in a factory. Repetitive and boring.

So, how does one find something like this? I can do repetitive and boring!

I could do "repetative and boring" too, especially getting paid to do it at home!
I bought the materials and started studying to do medical billing at home but didn't get far.
The best thing I have found was home daycare. I haven't done it in a few years, but I was doing pretty good! Between $500 - $600 per week...CASH! I didn't have to pay daycare for my kids, saved on gas and clothes for work, etc. In fact, I have an ad going in the paper soon to start again. Not really looking forward to it but we need the money. :(
Looking for work sucks. I'm 32 years old and have never really had a "real" job! I did McD's, Publix, and Wal-Mart back in highschool but that's about it. I did work as a CNA (yuck) for 7 months 8 years ago! What am I supposed to do now? Plus I have 3 kids home all summer beginning next week.
Sure hope I get a few calls from my ad!

My sisters BF family makes buttoms and gets paid $10 a box its a place in Chicago. You have to go there to pick up the stuff and then drop off when you are done.

i posted this on the budget board awhile ago but if anyone didn't see it here goes:

With my first dd, I applied at a daycare part time. I considered this almost a work from home job because we went in for a couple hours a day... I helped make and serve lunches and covered some breaks for people while my daughter got a play group out of it. I would leave after a couple hours with projects to do at home for the teachers (lesson plans, art projects, etc.)

Second dd, I worked for a office scheduling appointments. They had a seperate line that people could call and leave their phone number. I would get the tape in the morning, go home, play the calls and return everyones call and schedule their appt.

I also had a job delivering papers. It was a weekly newspaper, so I only had to work one day and could drive my daughter around we me. I actually made really good money doing that.

My friend works for a company that allows her to work from home full time. She does computer work and basically gets emailed information, which she types, researches, and returns.

I would suggest calling a temp agency or placement agency and see if they could suggest something. Also their are a lot of "mom friendly" offices that do their best to help out with creative jobs. If your have any special talent (writing, photography, etc.) you could try to find a way to incorporate that with working.

I think you can do transcription at home.

The repetitive boring jobs sound good to work at home. You can watch TV and fold your hats! :)

Yes, you can. (This is what I do for a living... and should still be doing right now but am DIS'ing instead of working....)

I work for my state government from home. I just sort of lucked into it. I worked in the office for a couple of years and they needed more people but did not have the space. Our governor is/was pretty progressive with telecommuting. I only go into the office one partial day per week and the rest of the time I work from home. None of the clients that I talk to know that I'm working from home in my sweats! We leave in two days so I had to drop all of my work off this afternoon and I was stuck in rush hour traffic. Boy, am I glad that I don't do it anymore.

I do think there are employers out there that are willing to allow telecommuting but you generally have to have worked in the office first. Also, the employer isn't interested in how it benefits you like my not needing daycare for the 30 minutes in the morning before my son's bus arrives or that I'm saving money on gas. They are interested in the fact that they did not have to increase building costs and it is much harder to have a sick day (more productive).

My mother did yearbook editing at home years ago for Taylor Publishing. Not sure if yearbook publishers do this anymore. I work with a teacher whose sister-in-law lives in Orlando and works from home for CRO/Disney Travel Co. Disney set her up with a computer and phone line. She had originally worked in the office. Maybe we could all do this type job!

I could definatly do that....infact...I'd love to do that!!...where can I sign on!? Next best thing to planning your own magical vacation is planning one for someone else!!! ;)

I work full time as a waitress, but do some "Mystery Shopping" once in a while and the "little" pay goes into my Disney account, but I'd love to find something to do at home...maybe from my computer..I can type 70-80 wpm!
