Are there any "Holiday Treats" to have in December?

The Plaza ice cream parlor has (or at least it used to) peppermint ice cream (not the regular green mint chocolate chip ice cream). Of course, it's just Edy's, but it's a special holiday treat nonetheless ;).

I agree with others, I'm not a fan of the gingerbread shingle at GF. Even the chocolate coating couldn't make up for it!

I'm curious to know where the roasted chestnuts are! I've never seen them (or eaten them) in real life, so I'd be interested in checking them out.

I'll have to let my Dad know about the spiked eggnog. I would guess they sell it at those food/beverage carts along the street where the Osborne Lights are?

They also have holiday colored dole whips and I saw a peppermint ice cream sandwich that has my name on it!

Where can I get this sandwich? I only eat ice cream at WDW and peppermint is one of my favorite flavors?

The holiday colored Dole Whips are a little... odd. I suppose it would be cute as just a Dole Whip, but when you put green-tinted Dole Whip into pineapple juice for a float the result is not all that appealing, visually. The red vanilla soft serve might make for a better color combo as it melts!

I agree! I went for Halloween last year and they had the green tinted ice cream. I got a root beer float and it tasted fine, but my mind was having a hard time translating to my mouth that, even though it was green ice cream, it was still just vanilla! :upsidedow

The chestnuts used to be at the entrance of the GF. You'd get them for free, but only 2-3. Which honestly is more than I can eat anyway! Very dry. I haven't been there at Christmas in a couple of years, so who knows if they are still being offered?

This is where you used to be able to find them:

You can find egg nog at DHS at the bar by Muppets (adjacent to Studio Catering Company) or at "street carts" near the lights.

Someone asked about treats in Epcot in the various countries. The only one I remember well was the hot spiced Gluhwein in Germany. I had read about it here on disboards, and tried it last year. YUM! Bought some to have a home on Christmas.

We were there last year at Christmas and the GF still had the chestnuts roasting out front, and i think also a hot apple cider maybe?

I have been reading some dining reviews from MickeyNicki from her holiday trips in 2009 and 2010. There are so many great pictures of holiday snacks and treats to take home. I suggest looking her reviews up. This is the link with the holiday drink menu on itfrom DHS. It also lists the location. The snowball sounds good to me I can't wait to try it.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you...

From what I understand you can get them at Sleepy Hollow in MK :)

I love hot apple cider! I will have to try to find it. We are not staying in GF, but we do plan to make a visit to check out the decorations. I will try to get the chestnuts and cider while there.

A couple of years ago, there was a cart near Germany in EP that had a mulled wine. At least I think that is what you would call it. It was hot and yummy. They sell the mulling spices and bottle of wine at the wine shop in Germany.

Oh I've read about this recently. Can't wait to try it!

I've heard there is a drink kiosk near Sci-Fi Dine-in as well.

So, I'm gathering from this thread that the Grand Gingerbread Shingles are more a novelty thing than actually delicious. Since I am a gingerbread cookie junkie, what should I get instead?

Thanks for all the info!! We are going for the first and probably the only December trip for years to come!!

So we are excited to experience all things Holiday at WDW!!

My daughter tried a Yule log a couple of years ago and loved it. Does anyone know where we can find one this year ?
