Are there any 'Bargins' in the 08 planner?

Hah, hah, hah. Disney and bargain in the same sentence. :lmao:

This may just be me...but the rates at the Club Intrawest in Destin Florida seems reasonable.

Of course, I've never been there, but 13 points a night in Destin seems pretty good. (Its not OKW charts but still.) DH and I think that Destin would be a good alternative if we ever get "stuck" with points since we live 3 hours away.

Hopefully, someone will post a review soon.

Disney and bargain is a contradiction in terms.

Well, that would have been the 1992 Planner!!!!

Hence the use of quotes. Hey even Tiffany's has a sale every once in a while.

There are plenty of reviews on tripadvisor.com you can check out. I think their rates are really good for what you're getting, too. Good vacation idea! I haven't been to the Sandestin location, but have been to Club Intrawest at Whistler and Palm Desert -- both are fantastic properties and I would expect the same at any of their locations. Although not 'Disney', the theming is great, but tasteful and the two bedrooms I've been in are huge.

Thanks for the info.

DO they twist your arms for a timeshare presentation? Do any of the II resorts try to tangle you up into that?

I have stayed twice in a 2 BR at Club Intrawest with my sister and her DH who own a small contract there, enough for 6 nights in a one BR.

Both times, once in March, once in September was off season, so your results may vary.

The building is not on the beach, the same case as for many of the resorts in the SanDestin resort. There is a free shuttle that will take you to the beach, to the village where there are beaucoup restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. There is live music nightly in the village at several venues. Very fun. It is very family friendly.

The free shuttle, you just show your room key. It is a call based deal, there are phones you call the shuttle and one comes pronto, at least when we visited.

The beach is one of the best along the panhandle, very white sand, etc.
Club Intrawest has free folding chairs and umbrellas for their guests that are set up and taken down for you at dusk.

The rooms in my opinion are comfortable, not plush. They seem a little dated. Very clean though, good linens, etc. Great kitchen in the 2 BR. We stayed in one of the 2 premium units on the top floor last year that had a surround sound tv and stereo unit. It also had a lookout that was interesting.

The building is I think 5 stories tall, good views of the area. There are two pools, on the smallish side and two hottubs.

There is a movie theatre where they screen movies. You can select the movie, I think around 3 times per day.

The shuttle also takes you to several other venues, one brand new area, with very upscale shopping and lots of restaurants and one older one along the beach highway.

Both times I went we were able to do a 4 day getaway less than 2 weeks beforehand during the slow season. My sister likes to go in May, higher season but it is before schools are out so the resort is not too busy.

There are lots of other resorts as well on SanDestin.

The San Destin resort itself is great.

Oh, and you can also rent bikes (for free) to ride around the entire resort. There are some huge amazing vacation homes there. Also good golf.

Pm me for any other questions.

We have just booked a 3 night stay in a 2-bedroom at the Club Intrawest resort at SanDestin using points.

I called the first day I could in January and all of April was booked. I had to book in May for more points, 34/night vs the 28/night in April.

We have stayed at this resort several times, but never at Club Intrawest.

The booking process was easy: I called MS and told them what I wanted, we chatted about 2nd and 3rd choice dates and they put in the request.

A couple of days later, I got a call saying the ressie was booked and confirmed.

The MS agent could not have been more helpful. She was AWESOME!!!

Now we can look forward to planning our meals for the Dec trip to OKW!

I'll write up a trip report if anyone is interested.

I could give a partial restaurant review now we have been there so often!

Snappy: Thank you so much for the report. :)

Kapeman: I patiently await your trip report in May. :surfweb:

Destin gets more and more tempting. :cool1:

I wonder if I got my sisters a couple of days at Destin, if they would like my DVC better. Nah, I'd still be nuts. Better keep it for myself. Besides, I've not heard offers for their RVs yet.

depending when you go it will either be a studio or a 1 bedroom (Sun-Thurs)

Thanks for the info.

A 1 BR would be a bargain for 13 points.

There are several other nice things in San destin. My sis and DH have done the dolphins cruise several times.

You can see dolphins from the beach itself if you look closely, very cool. I think there is access to a beach front pool and definitely a very nice beach front deck for Club Intrawest guests. I would think you would only have to show your room key so folks trading would receive the same benefits as a member.

Both 2 BR units I stayed in had everything you could want in the kitchen, stainless steel fridge, etc. You can park in the basement and take the elevator from there (using your room key) to get your luggage, etc. to your room. The bath rooms have roman style tubs, very large, and the master also had a jetted tub (in the room though, kind of strange).

What struck me throughout San Destin was the lush landscaping. Very well kept. Beautiful in the spring especially.

I also am a huge fan of live music, it is both indoors and out doors at the village.

There is a great breakfast place in the Village, Another Broken Egg. Be sure and try this place.

There are places in the village to eat inside (more upscale) and others where you can get seafood, even sushi, and eat out on the decks that are everywhere.

They had doubled the size and offerings of the Village between the 2 times I visited, March 2006 and September 2007.

They were finishing a P.F. Changs in the new shopping/ dining area just outside San Destin. We ate at what i would call a gourmet Mexican restaurant and it was really good. I think there is a fairly new Public's (grocery) right in that same area.

Post when you return guys, if you go.
