you are traveling to a popular destination, like Disney World, during a holiday week? I want to visit the Friday before Thanksgiving to the Saturday after 2011. I am wondering if I should drive myself crazy checking every day when rates are released or just give myself an amt. I don't want to pay over per person and if I can get that just be happy with it and book. I need tickets for 2 adults, 2 kids (3 and 5) and I'm thinking if I can get it under $300 per person I should be happy. Traveling from Houston. Any thoughts or strategies?

Only suggestion I have is to keep checking as soon as it is at a rate you can afford buy it. Holiday weeks are notoriously expensive. If you are looking for 2011 (which is what you typed) I would suggest waiting until the discount carriers (AirTran, JetBlue, and Southwest) release their fares for November which probably won't be for quite some time.

The Friday before Thanksgiving usually isn't an expensive flight but the Saturday after will be high. The Friday after is usually cheaper.

You don't have to book the R/T, if you book the outbound flight you can always shop for the best deal on your return trip. And keep checking after you book to make sure they haven't dropped, and if they do some airlines will issue a credit for future travel.

I booked this Thanksgiving flights (Saturday before to Friday after) with Jetblue as soon as they were released, give or take a day or two in April for $269 R/T, the exact same flights today are $559. Both the outbound and return have steadily risen, and if either did go down I would just call Jetblue and get a credit for the difference.

If Southwest services your city, you could book your travel and if the price goes down between now and when you leave, you will get a credit voucher for the difference......

I didn't know Southwest would do that! That's great news. That is probably who we would fly with. Thanks.

Yes but the rule will change beginning next year that the future travel funds will only be available to the person who the ticket was purchased for.

Saturday and Sunday flights are always more expensive then ones during the week, JB tends to have their lowest priced flights when first offered , this year November flights came out mid-April. As others have mentioned you can get a credit if the fare does go down lower after you purchase

Good Luck
