I know this is a weird question. But, I am taking my 9 & 7 year old daughters to Disney without my wife (she is staying home with the baby). My one concern is if I have to go to the bathroom. Are their the family bathrooms like they have at my local mall? They are bathrooms that both men & woman can use to take kids in. I am just afraid of leaving them alone. Or I guess. I will have to hold it in. :earseek:

There are companion bathrooms in the parks that would be perfect for you, although they aren't at every restroom location. I know I have seen them at all four parks, but the only one I can remember for sure off the top of my head is in Epcot in Future World facing the Land and the Imagination pavillion.

yes there are - when your first arrival ask!!!

also there are generally CM (and generally ladies) that should be able to take your girls in the ladies bathroom.

if you are just outside the door waiting - they should be fine...

don't wait outside the area - be at the restroom door -

if you wait in outside the area at some restrooms - they can exit into 2 different lands - you could be in one land and your children might end up in another land - don't let it happen.

tell them if you are not standing at the door outside of the restroom - to wait for you there - no trying to find you.

Thanks for the info.

Spiceycat, I am not concerned when they go. I am concerned about when I have to go. I don't want them to come into the mens room and I don't want to leave them alone. That is why I wanted to know about the family restrooms.

After reading SueMN post, I had to take off the specific locations. I figured it might give the wrong impression. They are not meant for families but people in wheelchairs. There are very few and we usually didn't use them because of the wait. I drive into the handicap stall in the women's bathroom or right outside and my dad carries me. I am usually pleasantly surprised by the tolerance, although sometimes we do get some strange reactions. So, I recommend First Aid. All the first aid stations have companion (unisex/family) bathrooms in an enclosed building with lots of CM's around. That sounds like your ideal choice. My dad is so flexible that sometimes I take it for granted. Please don't use the companion bathrooms unless you absolutely need them. We didn't use them because of the long wait. If worst came to worse, you could pull a CM aside and ask them to watch your daughters while you go to the bathroom.
Hope I helped. Have a magical trip!

I am, let's just say 40 something, and still remember going in the mens room with my Dad when I was very young. Not a memory I cherish, very uncomfortable situation. I think it's great you are looking to avoid this.

My DH took my DS in the companions while we were there because he has special needs and I'm not sure but I'm thinking you may not get the privacy you may want there. If you find they won't work for you I think the first aid station is a great idea. We had to go to first aid and found the CMs there to be extra extra nice and caring.

Have a great daddy/daughter trip ! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

Luckily, my in-laws, who live in Florida, are meeting us for the weekend. So it will just be me and the girls on Thurs and Fri (MK & MGM). Thank you all for the info. One less concern now. :D

They aren't marked on the maps. Probably because they are not Family Restrooms; they are Companion-Assisted Restrooms as Christamae reported and if they were on the maps people would be using them as Family Restrooms.

Although all the restrooms in the parks have "handicapped stalls", most of those are not large enough for someone who has to bring a wheelchair or an assistant into the stall with them. And (since they are inside restrooms, they don't work for a person with a different sex "helper".)

In MK and Epcot, these few companion restrooms are the only stalls in the whole park that can be used by someone who needs to bring in a wheelchair, an assistant or a have a safe bathroom when they are with an opposite sex caregiver.

I mention this because on our last trip to WDW, we often had to wait in quite a line behind people who apparently did have other options, but were using these restrooms as Family Restrooms. I'm not judging anyone's use of these restrooms (maybe they had some reason for using it that was not apparent to me). I'm only suggesting that people think of the options they might have and keep in mind that some people have no other options.

As the others mentioned, the companion restrooms are one room with a toilet and a sink - no stall. So, you would have no privacy whatsoever. If you use them, what you could do is have the girls stand right outside the door and keep talking to you or something so you know for sure they are still outside the door.
The restrooms in First Aid would be better, since there are CMs nearby. All of the First Aid stations actually have a waiting area with chairs, where they girls could wait for you. One thing to be aware of is that the restrooms in First Aid don't have locks on the door (so the CMs can get in there if someone becomes ill and needs help). It does tend to "hurry you up". They don't have an "Occupied" sign for the door and we have had the door opened when I was in the First Aid restroom with DD.
