We are in St Pete. Our kids went back August 5. Most kids in this area are back.

Thanks everyone! Hmmm is Orlando considered South Florida? If so......it looks like the crowds could be a little heavy! Darn, I though I would ahve the park all to myself!

Florida east coast reporting in (Sarasota, about 2 1/2 hrs from Disney). We went back this past Monday (the 11th) .

I was going to say that all the Floridians were back in school already but judging from Disney Dad's post we're not all back yet.

Orlando area schools started 8/11. But most summer visitors to Disney World are not from Central Florida. We wait until it slows down and that is usually when the Florida residence rates or specials are in effect. Hope this helps.

This is off topic but since Florida starts so early, when do your children get out for summer vacation? In IA & NE They start at the end of Aug. and get out at the end of May. Just curious. Kathy

On a related note, we once visited a resort in VT in mid June and found it almost deserted. We were told that most Northeast schools don't get out until late June so the summer season doesn't start until July. I was surprised as here in Michigan, most schools start in late August and get out early June. There is a push to mandate a post-Labor day start.

These reginal differences are interesting.

Our kids start the day after Labor Day and get out the last day of June (we are just west of Toronto). Talk about a shock when we moved here from the states! Makes getting together in the summer with our family a little harder as they usually go to FL in June.
