Are the VB and HH people getting the best deal?

Ever since I came to this webiste the rule is buy where you want to stay.

Now everyone knows the VB and HH DVCer's can't book at 11 months. But it has been my experience that you can do pretty well inside of 7 months (except for a few weeks per year).

So they paid less, still can do 11 mo at HH or VB ($63/point vs $78 at VWL on the resale board) and can stay on any of the DVC resorts.

I think a pretty good deal.

A bigger question, is this going to change with the addition of monster resorts like SSR?

Are you VB and HH DVC'ers happy you bought where you did or wish you would have bought at Orlando home?

I bought at Vero Beach because the type of contract I wanted was available there. It is not a deal because in the long run the maintenance fees will cost you more and offset any initial savings. I hopr this helps.

I'm not a VB or HH owner, I own at OKW but you have to remember that although points may have been less per purchase, VB has the highest dues of all the DVC resorts. Not sure about dues at HH but I do know Vero has the highest maintence dues.

A bigger question, is this going to change with the addition of monster resorts like SSR?

This could change the availibility at the 7month mark of non-home resorts in the future due to more competition for the rooms -- it may, it may not, but it could.

Just some things to consider:confused3 :scratchin

I bought at Hilton Head because I felt that if we ever tired of going to WDW (yeah, like that's going to happen); then we could more easily reach HH than Orlando, plus, I like having the availablity of the 11 month window during the summer since it is a smaller resort and harder to get during that time. So far, I have had no trouble getting the rooms I wanted at the time I wanted on WDW resorts using my HH points. I know that that may change at some point, so I purchased 50 points at BCV thinking I could combine them and get a decent trip to WDW at least every third year.

We originally bought at OKW because that was the only DVC resort when we first bought in 1993. It's also our favorite DVC/WDW resort overall.

We bought HH because we love the resort and the whole Lowcountry area. Hopefully, we will be able to relocate to the HH area in a few years, and plan to sell some, but not all, of our points there.

I think buying where you want to stay is the way to go. We like staying at BCV for the F & W Festival and are concerned that it may be difficult to book at 7 months in the future. (But we're done buying points  so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.)

If you are the type of person like myself ( that does not book stays at the 11th month window) then Hilton Head is most likely the best place to purchase your points then any other DVC resort. First of all it has the second lowest dues next to OKW and of course they are alot cheaper to buy on the resale market compared to VWL or BWV. Now I do own points at every resort, except for VB and OKW, but I kinda of wish I owned all my points at HH for the low dues and the 11th month window meaning nothing to me.I have stayed at every resort in any type of room I wanted to within the 7th month window and I feel that the statements on these boards about how hard it is to get a room within the 7th month window is completly false. It might change in the future with more and more DVC members but some how I doubt it, you see not all DVC members are as educated about DVC like the people on these boards and believe it or not the vast majority of members do not call on the exact day of there 11th or 7th month window.

I've been able to easily reserve in WDW with my HH points even at the busy Easter period, no problem. However, try to get a rese at HH in the summer if you don't own there. I think there are enough resorts now in WDW to find a room even during the busy periods. ko

Studios and BWV Standard View rooms seem to be what most people are refering to when talking about problems booking a room at 7 month window.

Shhhhh.....this is the best kept DVC secret. We own at three resorts, but our largest point ownership is at HH. We have never had a problem using our HH points at WDW....ever. We booked spring break at 7 mo. (OKW 2BR)...no problem. We added a Friday night to an existing BCV reservation at 2 mo. out. We often book 5 nights with our VWL or BCV points and at 7 mo book the weekend nights with our HH points. With the addition of the monster DVC SSR, I doubt that there will ever be a time I won't be able to book a WDW DVC room with HH points.

However, the BEST part of owning HH points is the ability to book HH at 11 months. It is the absolute best DVC resort, and it has the friendliest most enthusiastic CMs of any Disney resort I've stayed at.

With the DVC costs now, I'd choose a VB or HH resale over current offerings. Crunch the resale/dues numbers over time and calculate a break even point over buying from Disney. You may be surprised.

We have 306 BWV points. In hindsight, I wish we had purchased 165 at HH and 165 at BWV. That way we'd have 330 pts for only a little more money, as well as 11 mo window and enough points for a 2br at either resort on alternating every-other-year basis.

Oh well. We're still completely happy with our membership and have been 100% successful getting in HH.

well I am an owner at HH as well as BWV and I have not been able to use my points at BWV at the 7 month timeframe for the 1st week of Dec for a studio this year so I booked a studio at OKW which was the only place available when I called. So if you don;t care where you stay onsite then HH is a good choice and its also a good choice if you are flexible in your dates BUT don't plan on getting BC or VWL, or BWV at certain times of the year in the future as it will only get worse if SSR people want to stay at the smaller resorts for Food & Wine festival or at Christmas time. I personally wish I had all my points at Bwv as I've never stayed at Hilton Head and its a real pain not being able to get all my rooms at one resort by waiting. So don't be fooled into thinking you can always get what you want at the 7 month window because it simply isn't so...you may get lucky. Also I got on the waitlist for BWV and it still didn't work so I rented my points out for the OKW studio and am using cash to book guests at the Swan so we can be closer together.

I was really surprised to find out Grand Villa's at OKW for President's Week '05 were still available about 3 weeks ago -- and that was within the 7-month window. This definitely was not the case a few years back so I think people's vacation habits have just changed.

That said, you don't know when the balance will shift again, so I do think you're better off buying where you prefer to stay.

Hello!! We are HH owners and love it. We have never had a problem getting a villa at WDW and some of the trips were only planned a month in advance. We chose HH because it was closer to home and we are big beach fans and were told that the only way to get into HH in the summer is if your home is HH. We don't regret purchasing HH and have never worried about not getting in WDW. However, if you are very concerned about not being able to get into WDW then I would skip HH and Vero and buy something at WDW.

We bought at VB because we didn't know any better. So far we have been able to book everything at WDW within the 7 month window, one exception was a 2 br at BWV for 9 nights. I split the stay with VWL and went on the waiting list. A few days later the waiting list came thru, but we decided to stay with VWL. Good thing. My family LOVED the lodge!

We vacation off season so as long as I can book at 7 mos, I am happy. We are staying 2 nights at VB in April to check out our home though.

We own at OKW and VB. OKW was the only resort when we bought so there was no other options. We have traded to HH and GWV with no problems. We added on at VB to have the ocean vacation and stay in a cottage. We usually take many people with us and a GV at OKW or the cottages at VB are just what we want. The 11 month window means a lot if you want either of these. I do think you should buy where you want to stay most but you probably will have no problem at 7 months at WDW. Just remember to book asap if you want something special.
