Are the tours too exhausting?

My DH and I are interested in the Backstage tour at MK. We read that the four hour tour took only a 15 minute break - but we thought it was supposed to include lunch?? I took the 3 hour gardening tour last time we were there and my feet killed me with all of the standing and no time to sit and relax. Has anyone gone on the Backstage tour and what did you think? We work out a few times a week, but we don't want to ruin our trip by being totally exhausted... the writer in The Unofficial guide said it took him 3 days to recover??? http://www.disboards.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=12#

The Backstage Magic tour which stops at the MK, Epcot, and MGM is a seven hour tour and includes lunch. The Behind the Magic MK tour is a three hour tour, no lunch, and there is one short bathroom break.

We've done Backstage Magic twice, and it didn't take three days to recover--that's a bit absurd. We've also done the Backstage safari tour at the AK, that was about 3.5 hours, and again, no big deal.

I just don't see how you can be exhausted after walking at a fairly relaxed pace for three hours.

Redbud - I believe the MK tour you are referring to is Keys to the Kingdom. I've done keys, Backstage Magic, Undiscovered futureWorld and about 4-5 more tours that I can't think of at the moment. One trip I took 3 tours (out of 5 days there). Keys does include lunch.

It never took me 3 days to recuperate. I cannot stand for long periods of time so always found someplace to perch, lean or sit.

Thanks ducklite. Which tour would you recommend if you only had time for one?

Hi, Figment2,

Yes it is the standing we are worried about. We both have trouble with our backs and so standing for a long period is tough. walking is just fine, but we don't want to ruin our trip...

I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour two years ago (loved it!). Most of the places that we stopped for the guide to talk were either next to some place to sit (some folks sat down, some didn't) or at least next to walls (so you could lean)

I did the Keys to the Kingdom tour just 3 weeks ago and would recommend it. It's a MK tour which lasted almost 5 hours. Now bear in mind we were in full July sunshine, I didn't find it too bad.

The excellent tour guide made sure we could stand in the shade whenever possible. He told us that the whole tour covers about 2 miles of walking so it's not so bad. A lot of the time is standing still actually, which may cause problems for some.

We rode 2 rides, no line. We had a bathroom break about an hour into the tour, then stopped for 30 minutes lunch break at the 2.5hr mark. How that author said it took three days to recover is beyond me. Sounds like scaremongering, and just not true in my opinion.

KTTK tour is informative and fun. It's also very popular!

We took the Keys to the Kingdom tour last year. I had surgery on my foot a few months before and I was kind of worried about the walking and standing for long periods of time. I told our tour guide Rae (who was wonderful) about my situation and she said that I would do ok. We made frequent stops (as part of the tour) and some were at places where you could sit down while she told us facts and stories. We ate at the Columbia Harbour House and it was not rushed at all. We rode several attractions that we did not have to wait in line for. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of walking and standing and our tour lasted about 4.5 hours. The only problem we had that day was the temp hit 92 degrees and set a record for the day. I would highly recommend this tour if you are wanting to see behind the scenes at the MK.

We did KTTK in April. DH was recovering from pnuemonia & couldn't make it for the whole tour, but he was still quite ill. I have health issues & was able to do the tour as well as doing the Segway tour within the same week with no problem at all. We were able to sit for several parts of the tour.
