Are the refillable mugs really worth it?

At POR (where we got ours) they all had the same design on them but some were travel mugs (smaller diameter around the bottom so they fit in a cup holder) and the BIG honking ones (that I personally don't like b/c they are too big to me and you can't use them for coffee on the way to work/school in the car when you get home :flower: )

I'd bring a sharpie if I were you ;)

The only "juice" I saw was lemonade (I don't think that counts as juice...) and yes, they have soda, coffee, and hot cocoa. I don't think they have crushed ice.

Are you the one staying at POR? I was there in March and there was no slushie machine but someone said another resort they stayed at had one.

Yes I would bring a sharpie, I sharpie everything, lol. Also, when I am not a DVC resort, I save thru the year the samples of dish soap I get so I can rinse them out in hot water every night.
No, juice and milk are not provided. I know some resorts have frozen coke.
Hmmm, I can't remember the ice, I think it is regular cubes, wish it was Sonic ice!!!
Your resort where you buy them from has its own special mug, with the resort on it.

Gymbomom~ I was thinking of Sonic ice too when she posted that!! Just last Sunday BF and I were discussing how wonderful Sonic ice is... and why it's so good, because really... it's only ice :rotfl:

OK! Now you guys have got to tell me about Sonic ice. We don't have one around here, but I'm willing to travel for good ice! :rotfl:

Sometimes they have the same design but a different colored lid, years ago they had all different colors of mugs.

Oh my goodness??? You have never had Sonic Ice? Girl you are deprived!!!!!
It is not shaved ice, more like crushed, but in little balls.
You can cherry limemade, ocean water, cherry coke, diet limemade, the list oges on and on.
I always get the big one, isn't it called the Route 44?

We always bought mugs in the past and felt we did great for a week stay. But now that deluxe's and moderates have fridge's and coffee makers I don't think they have the same appeal.

Now that is making me want to cry!  It is good to know that there is still more ice out there for me to conquer! :)

I have several designs from various resorts we have stayed for but have a question. Does anyone know if the Polynesian has a new mug design? I am yearning for one, and really hate to bring home more of the same... we're going in June and I am hoping that they have a new design so I can add to my collection!

POR had a slushie option back in '98 (it was coke and cherry flavored), but I'm quite certain they discontinued that. I can confirm that POP had both coke and blue raspberry flavored slushies at their drink stations as recently as the second week of Feb this year.

As for the Poly mug, I saw that allearsnet site says the current mug is white w/blue lid & handle and a Mickey & Minnie beach scene.

Magicalmom,
This is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off topic but any chance you are anemic? A few years back I had a SERIOUS ice addiction--lived on Sonic crushed ice and bowls of ice at my own home (for about a year) and found out that I was seriously, seriously anemic. Apparently, craving ice is one of the signs of serious anemia. As soon as my red count was brought up to normal my craving for ice ended. Wierd!! I just had to ask....

I love the mugs! I'm drinking out of one right now, as a matter of fact (they hold up quite well - this one is almost a year old).

I find it a great value. I always fill it first thing in the morning and sip it on the way to the parks, and finish it before I go on any rides. Stow it in my backpack, refill it when I get back to the resort for a mid-day break. Fill it up again on my way to my nighttime park, and if it's still open I fill it up on my way back to the room.

I can understand that buying them for a large family may not be cost-effective, especially if you wish to bring your own, but I really liked the freedom of it and once you take away the cost of the refills, it's a darn nice souvineer. Every time I'm working and I grab for it I think of WDW. When you factor in the mug itself, it's a pretty good deal if you use it enough.

N.E.D.

Don't be cheap, spring for the mug. You get to drink free, you can even chug. Drink all you want and make yourself burp, so don't be tight, buy a mug and a shirt. Spend all your cash and go home poor buy that darn mug and don't ask anymore. :rotfl:

OMG that is too funny, but somehow so true

My first post here!

We stayed at the Contemporary in '02, and bought two "adult" mugs and two "kids" mugs. The kids' mugs were smaller, and kind of like a sippy cup, but with a straw. I would swear that we were able to fill the kids' mugs with milk from a dispenser. Am I crazy? We're going back at Halloween, and I would do it again if we could get milk, but otherwise it wouldn't be worth it to us.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's PICA. just glad it's ice & not tree bark that I'm craving. :) My H & H is chronically low.

DS & I are bringing back our Wilderness Lodge mugs. We bought them when the mugs were still good for return trips. We may bring them to the other monorail resorts w/us - will NOT be filling them up at those resorts.
We are planning on buying 2 Beach Club mugs in Aug. Most likely will be carrying them around the EpCot resorts too - again NOT filling them up at those resorts.
