Are the refillable mugs really worth it?

Also if you plan on making more than one trip a year, they can be reused for that trip as well.. Provided you stay at the same resort. I did see mugs from the previous year being used when we were there, but I am not 100% sure on the policy.

As you can see, it will depend on you.

We find it a better deal to buy a two liter bottle of soda for $1 or $1.50 on our way to the resort, plus some OJ and some milk (DVC, so we have a fridge and coffee maker etc - although pre DVC the 2 liter bottle was still a better deal, just skipped the milk and OJ). We don't drink that much pop at the resort (we pour half the two liter bottle down the drain when we leave), and the mugs do us no good in the park. The refill stations are out of the way for us, and I don't place much value on the mug itself as a souvienier. We don't find the mugs aren't convienient to carry if you use them on your way to the parks.

There is some debate on whether the mugs are good for "one trip only" (which I don't care to get into), but regardless, packing mugs isn't something I'd bother with - pre-DVC we enjoyed staying in different hotels each trip too much. Other people will.

But, if your kids are going to spend a lot of time by the pool sucking down pop, and the pop is worth $5 as a souvienier to you - you'll more than pay for the mug - even over buying a 24 pack on your way.

Can you get free refills at the pool? Or only at the foodcourt? We are stayiong at POR. :)

Hey Rumrunnergirl,

You better put on your flame suit. :duck: You are touching upon a very hot topic :teeth:

OK, dumb question but this would be our deciding factor!
Our the products Coke or Pepsi?

We will probably buy a couple but maybe not one for all five of us. Especially since we are a house divided. Two for Coke, Two for Pepsi and one little man who would take soda any way he can get it. I am not crazy about having DS's drink soda all week but then again when we are in the parks that is what is most readily available it seems. Plus, it is vacation! I don't think a week of soda is going to bother them that much since they seldom have it at home. Plus, for me, it seems it just might be part of the fun.

But, is it Coke or Pepsi?

Coke - no Pepsi products at Disney. (DH works for Pepsi, so Coke is a very bad work in our house!)

or unsweetened iced tea???

Thanks!!!!!

Yes, they have unsweetened iced tea (not sure about sweetened) and you can get hot water and tea bags for hot tea.

I have heard a few mentions about these 'mugs' in other threads. Thanx for starting this thread so I could hear more about them...we will try for a fridge, but, the mugs sound like a neat 'take home' gift for the kids!!
I'm sold!

:wave2:

My Dh and I have always gotten the mugs. They are great souveniers (we still have AND USE ones from our 1999 trip pre-marital-bliss) and they help out a lot!

See, I'm a hot chocolate freak, so I fill it up with that first thing in the morning. Then, when we come back for our afternoon break, I get another one, or some iced tea (I don't drink soda) or lemonade. After we come back from the parks, it's another hot chocolate or a hot tea in between. That's 3-4 drinks/day for us. If we were to buy those seperately, we'd be spending in 1 day what we spent on the mugs for the entire trip.

I was thinking the very same thing - I actually just said "uh oh" out loud. Rumrunnergirl - be safe! :)

Yes, a private party, someone re-selling their mugs from their last trip, not from eBay.

Well, I would have to say this is not the best idea.
FACT: Disney is not receiving ANY money for the coke and drinks you will partake of.
How is any of that honest to you? :confused3

I don't ever get invloved in the is it okay to bring mugs back for more than one trip, more than one person drinking out of them, etc. I think these (to me) are all "grey" areas. But, the above situation I have never heard of.

I am hoping the "private seller" post is a joke so I won't even touch that one!

If you are buying them as souveniers they are great for that. If you are buying them to save money, I would price what you would pay for a couple of 12 packs of soda for the stay and see which one is best for you.

We added it up and for the price of 4 mugs we were able to get a weeks worth of groceries including breakfast items for the room, several 12 packs of soda and some snack items for in the evening.

Yeah the best part about buying these is you can get one per group so everyone can drink out of the same mug and you don't need to spend more money on buying one for everyone, and you can use them again when you come back (even if it's 5 years from now) AND even if you're at a different resort you can use them there too!!

I bet some of your heads are starting to spin off like that girl in the Exorcist. :rotfl:

I was just kidding!!!

In my short time here I've realized that DISer's are quite sensitive when it comes to mugs and pool hopping... watch yourself :earseek:

Sorry Cindy's Mom.... LOL.
This is just a first for me..... I have NEVER heard of this before, I was really suprised.
That scenario is SO obvious if it is right or wrong.

LOL. I too said "uh oh" out loud. :teeth:

Thanks for all of your replies everyone! So, they have soda, coffee, hot chocolate. I've read somewhere else that they have juice? I think I read about slushies too? Is this true? How about crushed ice? If they have crushed ice, then I must get one! I love crushed ice! :rotfl:

Do they have more than 1 design? Or do you think I should bring a sharpie to write everyone's name on their mug. Trust me, i don't want to start every morning off with "He has my mug!" "No! that's my mug!" Because I've actually heard these arguments at home when they don't have matching mugs! :rotfl:
