Are The Oscars On TV?

I'd like to know the answer to this too:rolleyes:

The actual awards don't start until 1.15 but Jonathan Ross has responsibilty for all the links etc - Best Actor/Actress, Film, Director etc probably won't get on til 4.30 am at the earliest!

So what are everyone's prediction's - Emma, you're obviously a fan what do you reckon? Due to certain personal circumstances this year it'll be the first year that I haven't seen all the Oscar nominated Films so I'm not going to bother satying up all night like a I usually do - but if I can't sleep I have plenty of chocolate. coke and coffee - caffine is the trick!!

However I'm going for Robert Altman for Best Director which is a long shot

Tom Wilkinson for Best Actor - In the Bedroom

Nicole Kidman for Best Actress - Moulin Rouge (I just think the academy is a bit bored of Judi Dench but don't get me wrong I'm rooting for the brits!) But I know Sissy is tipped for this

Come on Jim Broadbent for his performance as Supporting Actor for Iris

Best Film - Gosford Park

Maggie Smith for supporting Actress for Gosford Park would be great I still don't think it's Kate's year.

I've probably got all the above wrong but what the heck.

Worth taping this as Cirque de Soleil are performing. And yes it is BBC2.

I think your predictions are spot on Sam

Although I think Russell Crowe will win best actor - again!!

Lord of the rings may do well too on the 'craft' side of things.

If you can't stay up all night for it then GMTV are doing an Oscars special starting at 7am in the morning with live coverage of the aftershow parties etc.

Oh i feel asleep :( Oh well, thanks for the update. I really wanted Judi Dench to win (even though i havent seen the film) as I think shes great, also Jim Broadbent, so thats good news. As for the rest, as long as Russell Crow doesnt win - then im happy (i just dont like him even though I will admit it, he's a good actor)

Thanks Again

Emma

Well my predictions weren't good. I only got Jim Broadbent right! Although I did say Judi wouldn't get it and I'm glad that Russell didn't get it as although he's an excelelnt actor he really annoys me off camera (obviously he is a close and personal friend:rolleyes: ).

I really want to see Halle Berry's performance now if her oscar acceptance was anything to go by she deserved the oscar!!;)

I got up at 4.00 to watch and was sorry to hear that I missed Woody Allen who was apparently very funny.

At least Gosford Park got best original screenplay - I love that film.

Oh and Randy Newman - Thank the lord - I was touched. Yeah for Monsters Inc.

...........we saw the recorded version on TV last night and the highlight for us was that dazzling performance by Cirque Du Soleil......... it was brilliant and seeing Sydney Poitier receive his award was another highlight.
I know it has nothing to do with the movies, and it's only my opinion, but oh those frocks! They have creations that cost thousands of dollars at their disposal and they end up wearing something that doesn't suit them at all......... with the excpetion of Jennifer Lopez.

I watched the recorded show last night too and was mesmerized by Cirque! Made me want to go and see it again :)

I agree with you Shirley about some of the Dresses though - what did Gwynneth Paltrow have on? It looked like a vest - and the straps were all sort of twisted! Awful!

I thought pretty much the same about some of the hairstyles! Maggie Smith looked like she needed to visit a hairdresser pretty quick and Julia Roberts looked like she had forgotten to do hers! LOL

The tribute to Sidney Poitier was very moving and I sat watching it through tears - one of my all time favourite films is To Sir With Love.

I thought Helen Mirren, Dame Judi Dench and Kate Winslett (whom I am not a fan off) all looked wonderul and were very dignified. I thought seeing Helen Mirren tear up when Hallie Berry was making her speech was very poignant and her interview afterwards was just so lovely.

I really enjoyed watching the show :)

OHHH I better go home and watch my video tonight was too tired to watch the highlights on Monday night so i taped it i dodn't realise Cirque was on as well. I am about to leave from so i will definately watch it tonight.

I love all the glitz and glamour.........
