Are the filets really disappearing?

I just called Kona, I reached a central line-that's what the lady said anyways, she said she would transfer me to the podium, which is when the gentleman told me that the filet mignon is no longer on the menu, but they have the beef teriyaki... So, I guess I'm really not going to Kona, I'm so dissapointed, :confused3 someone on the review board also reported the choco mac nut tart was removed

Thank you for the heads up.... I have not been worrying about the filets as that is not a cut of meat I enjoy, but had been worrying about the other cuts of steak... especially the beef teriyaki at kona and the NY Strip at Coral Reef (since they removed the crab legs, it is my last choice)

Does Disney ever stop to think about how much this p*sses off the people who bring them their hard earned money??!! Really, they need a new team over at Disney Dining! The choices they make get worse and worse each time. Pretty soon it will not matter where you eat..you will get the same ole stuff everywhere! :rolleyes1

Disney was arrogant enough to release a statement that the recession, was not affecting them. Well, isn't that freakin' nice. After my next vacation, I'll talk with my pocketbook and only vacation close to home.

We actually already decided that next year for vacation, we have to go to someplace closer and cheaper!

Does anyone know if Chefs de France is taking their Filet off the menu?

We booked a last minute (in terms of dining  ) vacation and purchased the DDP. This will be the first time we are eating at TS places.

When I called, Chefs was the only EPCOT restaurant they had available. I was cool with that cause they had the Filet on the menu and actually got pretty excited about trying it. But if it is taken off the menu, I will be disappointed. My husband and I would eat something else but it really wouldn't be the meal I was looking forward to :sad2: .

I haven't heard their name but I figure if they would take it off the menu at Kona they would do it everywhere.

What Disney number could I call to get connected to Les Chefs de France to find out?

Thanks :goodvibes

(edit: Also, I have found a couple menu's online for chef's but they both had different things on them, maybe taken from different dates. Does anyone know of the best way to get the most recent menu's for restaurants? Looks like I may be looking it over to make sure there is something else we like.)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  I ALWAYS eat the filet at KONA! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - Now I need to rethink my meals for Feb!

My main problem is that the dishes being taken away aren't being replaced at all in most cases. The menus seem to be getting smaller and smaller and much more general across the board. All of the specialty items that make the different restaurants extra special are disappearing, IMO. In most cases, it's not anything big and most people wouldn't even notice it. At LeCellier, for example, the children's chocolate moose dessert used to come on top of chocolate chip cookies. No more cookies. LeCellier used to be the only place you could get Maple barbacue filet mignon and maple creme brulee. Because of the Canada maple syrup thing. Not anymore. Now you get a plain old filet that you can get in any other steak house and creme brulee that you can get in any other restaurant.

Exactly!:thumbsup2 Essentially WDW is making all of the experience interchangable...soon we will all be able to cut back on how long we have to stay because "we've been there, done that!" It was the special twists that made each place special. We seem to be heading towards bland, cafeteria-style food.

well pooh!! I was looking forward to the filets on the menu in a few weeks. This is the first time I booked a trip based on free dining and was excited about the food. BUT if they cut out all the great items on their menus, than next year I won't book a trip based on free dining.
The free dining is there way of attracting customers in their off season. But making their menus dull and unattractive is not going to draw in the crowds like they want.

I think all of the fillets are disappearing in people's mouth and hiding in there bellies, I think everyone would agree they don’t want them to reappear on the menu, I had to say it :rotfl2: I think I need some sleep!

I wouldn't expect filet there anyway, and that would have nothing to do with a menu change.

Yes I know no filet at 1900. I just meant that we are eating at 1900 a few days before Narcoossees and since we'll be at the GF, it gives me a chance to walk down and see if the filet is still on the Narcoossees menu so I know to cancel or not. (I know 1900 is buffet.) tks.

Am I the only one here who thinks that filet isn't all it's cracked up to be? I mean, yes it's tender, but it's also rather flavorless unless its sauced to within an inch of its life.

It's sad to see the choice eliminated, but it's not a make-or-break thing for me.

Okay, that makes sense.

Removing the filets and crab legs - along with any expensive item has been standard practice during free dining. The items will come back once free dining is finished and everyone's paying for their meals again.

We are there during free dining, however, we check in on Aug. 16 and check out on Aug. 28. We are not receiving free dining, we are paying something like 2231.00 for our food, not including the 500.00 I've budgeted for gratuities. I'm a little irritated now and wish I had not seen this thread. I don't want to be irritated 4 days before we leave. I want to be :goodvibes :cutie: . We don't have a lot of money, I scrimp and save and babysit and work yard sales to save for this vacation. The only reason I got the dining plan was because I didn't want to worry about the price of our dinners and with 7 people it can get costly. Oh well, I figure this will be our last trip to Disney for a while, not because of the dining plan but because my youngest kids will be 10 a few days after we return and I know I can't afford Disney with 7 adults! I just wanted a decent filet! I still love Disney :lovestruc .

Filet was on the menu at California Grill Friday (08/08/08).

Oak-fired Filet of Beef with Boniato Mashed Potatoes, Sauteed Haricot Vert and Porcini Mushroom Vinaigrette

Maybe it's not all restuarants?

The filet is not the most flavorful cut of beef, that's true. However, the ones we buy locally at a butcher are far more flavorful than the ones I've had at restaraurants or from the local supermarket. I had no idea the flavor difference that was possible until we bought them from our butcher the first time! I just wanted to share that. If you can find a good local butcher that cuts his own meat right off the carcass, you may be more happy with filet! :goodvibes

Anyway, I totally agree with you that the loss of filets is not a terrible thing in and of itself. It all depends on what they replace it with at the various restaurants. Wouldn't it be nice to see some unique, individual dishes at each of the restaurants instead of the same thing with a slightly different sauce?

Okay, I'm dreaming, I know, but still...

Supposedly it was removed from Kona's menu effective Saturday 8/9...not sure about the other places yet.

Maybe all of the signature places will keep it? That would kind of make sense.

I just called about Narcoossee's and the CM checked the menu (she claimed she was checking on the official postings) and read the items, Filet Mignon as well as the Surf & Turf came up in her listings.
Honestly, this could just be a move on Kona Cafe. Ya know, any time I have read reviews on Kona, I have always seen pictures and mentions of the steak teriyaki, not the filet. Maybe the filet was just not being ordered as much as they wanted and they were left with extra meat so they decided to nix it? I just don't see this as an across the board thing.

OK, does anyone know which OTHER restaurants have the filet removed besides Kona?

I have ressies for this coming week at places specifically for the filet. I have not yet cancelled Kona, because I can have the shrimp and scallops there. Does anyone know about the below restaurants?

The Wave: Grilled Beef Tenderloin
Captains Grille: 8 oz Grilled Beef Tenderloin Filet
Chefs de France: Filet de boeuf grille
Teppan Edo: Filet Mignon
Le Cellier: Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon
Tutto Italia: Tagliata di Manzo

Well, if you are in the area and love meat and will pay for it, I suggest Texas de Brazil... The Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon is fantastic!
