Are Serenity Bay cabanas on the water?

We were able to score #24 for our upcoming cruise in December. As I'm doing research, it looks like the cabanas on Serenity bay are not on the water, as the family beach cabanas are. Do you have to walk down the path and around to get to the beach, or is there an inlet or other body of water for us to enjoy?

I think they're "on the water." They are kind of behind a half-height row of hedges for privacy (not in your ocean sight line, but they do provide a low barrier blocking view of the public lounging area) with plenty of breaks. Between you and the water is the public lounging area, so it's kind of like being in the back seats on the beach. So when you walk to the beach (straight out from your cabana, all of 20 seconds walk I think) you'll walk through a dozen or so people in their beach lounge chairs.

I'd agree with @over50visits above. It might just be semantic's but I wouldn't categorize them as being "on the water". We were in #25 last year (last one at SB) and there was just some low scrub between us and the rest of the beach. Very short walk from the cabana through the scrub to the beach and the water.

I was just in 24. You come down out of your cabana, take a left, walk about 10 feet until there's a break in the hedges, turn right through the break, walk between some loungers etc. on the public beach, and then down to the water, which is maybe another 20 feet (or it was via the tide that day). You will have some ocean view from the cabana but mostly you will see the tops of umbrellas and the hedges.

We have 24 and 25 reserved for our B2B in Nov. We have also stayed in 23 (in 2011 when it as #18). The path and is between 23 and 24 and very short. Here are pics taken from 23. Cabana 24 is the blue one on the other side of the path entrance. The photos below is taken from #23.

One more question: I'm know a tip is appropriate, but when and how do you tip? Bring an envelope from home? Put it on your KTTW card? Give it to the last person who assists you or leave it at the cabana check-in desk? How much do you tip?

We left the tip in the cabana (with a brief note) as we were leaving..we saw that only one fellow all day so we figure he alone should get the tip.

Staying on topic with the OP question we are looking forward to our first Serenity Bay Cabana for our upcoming christmas week cruise. Our other stay (with one more coming up for Halloween week) have been on the family beach. Looking at the pictures that have been posted it certainly doesn't look very far to the water. I'm more concerned with any loud obnoxious people that might setup in front of us between our cabana and the water.

Now to respond to the off topic drift. =) We were serviced by the concierge team from the ship so we left them additional tip at the end of our cruise. The drink service we had was also provided by the bartender from the concierge lounge. We just tipped him when we settled the tabs while he was brining us drinks.

There is a cabana host (1 for all 4 SB cabanas) who you will meet when you check in. He will take you to your cabana in a golf cart, show you where everything is and tell you to call him if you need food, drinks or transport. We didn't see ours after he dropped us off (because we didn't call him) but he was there when we were ready to head back to the ship and he actually took us all the way there. DH tipped him in cash but I'm not sure how much. I think it was around $30??

ours drove us to Lunch and back, and all the way back to the ship at the end of the day. every time we would step out of the cabana he was there waiting for us.
he also sent over someone to take our drink order. I think we tipped 25

Take good care of #24 for us. We have it on our end of Dec cruise. I think we are in on Dec 30. Totally ready to get some hammock time!

Unless someone brings their own radio/music I don't think you'll have much trouble with loud people. The cabana is located a tasteful distance from the beach in any case. Our 2 times at Serenity in a cabana were very quiet
