Are rooms on the magic/dream with adjoining doors louder?

You just reminded me of a funny experience.

We worked out our neighbour next door was a DCL VIP.

I told my family to keep the noise down due to who he was.

Then my Travel agent did his usual contact to me, how's your room? Is the set up okay? Any issues?

I said it's all fine, thank you.

My TA responded, that's great, you will never know who is in the room next to you?

I Said, Yes we knew, we worked it out and hope we are keeping the noise down for him. We had seen him in Cabanas. And going in and out of his room.

Then we had a knock on our door, it was Karl Holz, former, executive for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in charge of DCL at that time. He said, I understand from your TA ( actually quoted name not sure if I can post that here), that your worried you may have made too much noise, well you haven't!

We then had a very nice hour long chat there, and concierge turned up as well and joined in. He was really nice, seeing us at concierge meets as well.

What a great story. There was a person who used to post here who a similar story about Karl Holtz. He seems like a really nice person getting to know all the guests and having such long conversations with them. I hope the new DCL president is just as friendly.

Concierge holds 5 people in a room.

Can I just add to this discussion from a different perspective. I realize those of you who were assigned a connecting room GTY, etc. have no choice. But for those of you choosing your rooms...if you have a choice, and you don't NEED a connecting room, please don't pick it and save it for those people who genuinely WANT or NEED the connecting rooms. I see this all the time, even on fairly empty ships - there will be 9 rooms in a row that a person could pick and the only one someone has picked has been 1/2 of a connecting choice.

A person who always needs (OK, wants) two connecting rooms :)

The problem I've had with connecting rooms is not the noise from next door (as others have pointed out, that may or may not be a problem regardless of a connecting door), but issues with the door itself rattling if the seas get a bit rough. The rocking doesn't bother us, but the rattling does. Figured out how to fix it though - fold up those DVC promotional cards, etc. and jam them into the cracks in the door!

If you cruise on the Dream class ships, there are lots of connecting rooms. I know the Magic class has fewer connecting room, but in past dry docks they've added more.

Strange...I don't want the connecting rooms and sometimes when I look for a room, it seems like the only ones available are connecting.

I will, even, change my category to reserve a non-connecting room.

But I think some don't even realize it's a connecting room. When I booked it, I knew it was, but I didn't think it would be a big issue and there was no other room that I liked left. Now I know never to book it. I have travelled with relatives before and I don't even book a connecting room with them. However, if I booked 2 rooms with my family I will likely try to get a connecting room. I haven't done that yet. There's 4 of us and even though my children are older now, I'm still trying to make it work. But I'm strange that way, I'd rather have one Family verandah than 2 oceanview staterooms.

Also, people have their own reasons for choosing certain cabins. Perhaps it's a lucky number. Perhaps they got engaged when they cruised in that cabin or stayed in a hotel room of that number. Perhaps they have just cruised in that cabin before and loved it. If connecting cabins - especially in a particular area - are a must, booking opening day is your best bet to get them.

The whole "don't book it if you don't need it" conversation reminds me of a concert I went to in a place that had communal tables. I bought my ticket the day they went on sale. There was a threesome who bought the other three seats at that section of the table later (though there were still seats available all over the place). The female in the trip then proceeded to be all "Can you move over so our friend has the space we paid for?" completely ignoring that I was on about 1/8 of the table when I should have had 1/4. She said something to the server about a "stranger" at her table and could her party be moved. The server looked at me sympathetically and he said he would talk with the manager. A few minutes later, the manager came over with my ordered beverage and asked me to go with him - where I was escorted to the front row section with the performer's family. Turns out she and her husband/manager were going over last minute details with the manager when my server approached the manager, and my server made it clear that I was being made to feel horrible for being solo and "daring" to book a seat at a table. The performer immediately said "Put her with our family. Now. And her food and drinks are on us." I didn't know any of that until later when I was talking with her (we've become friends since) - though I knew about the comped food/beverage only at the end of the show when the bills were coming and mine never did so I asked about it. It was kind of funny when the female of the trio saw the manager heading towards our table with the server and started gathering her stuff expecting to be moved - then she started to smirk when the manager asked me to go with him only to have her jaw hit the floor when she saw I was not being taken to a bar stool in the back but rather a prime spot.

Thank you for sharing that story! I'm so glad the server took great care of you and the gesture by the performer was absolutely wonderful! :)

And, of course, on the Dream class ships there are a LOT of connecting rooms. The Magic call, not so much.
