Are prices in the on board shops about the same as in the parks?

As I have been going to Disneyland California for a number of years, I kinda know an approx of what things will cost. This helps me plan my budget for merchandise. For example I bought a Minnie plush which cost $29.99 plus tax. I will be going to Disneyland California about 3 months before my cruise, so will the 2020 park prices be around the same as on the cruise?

Yes I will say they are about the same.
I think you can save 10 percent if you have a Disney visa or a dvc member and spend 50 dollars or more. Even thou I have both I’m not worry about that since I’m platinum along with gold saves 10 percent without having to spend 50 dollars.
Someone will be along later to confirm or deny that dvc members and Disney Visa card members save 10 percent on purchases over 50 dollars.

thanks @dclpluto as Im European I cant get a Disney Visa , Im not DVC and this is my first cruise. This will make it easier for the cruise, as I can add up what I buy in the park in June and use that as a budget for the cruise :)

You don't have to pay tax on your onboard purchases if you are cruising out of the US. If it's a European cruise, you will of course have VAT.

Thanks. and leading on from that, here in Europe, the shelf price / price on an item includes VAT. This means that when you go to pay, the listed price is what you pay.

In America it is different and the tax is added on when you pay.

On the Disney Cruise ship, when in Europe, is the VAT included in the shelf price / price on an item?

No, on Magic cruises in Europe on which VAT is charged, at shops it is added at check-out. The prices on the tags do not include VAT.

That totally makes sense as to add it to the tags they would have to retag every item - and then cover that on the items that did not sell when they come back to the states.

Sort of. If all of the ports are in the EU, VAT is charged. If you have a non-EU port, it won't be.

I will say, I was pleasantly surprised that drink and snack prices on the cruise seemed to be a few dollars cheaper than prices at the parks. Merchandise seemed about the same.
