I understand that. In fact, I really wasn't suggesting that anyone on this thread was insinuating that the webmasters go through their PMs. Just that, even though someone could, usually doesn't mean they do.

In addition, based on Michelle's response, I suspect there's probably only a couple of webmasters here that know how to dig in and access them.

Let's face it, the sad fact is that most, if not all, PM leaks are caused by either the sender or the recipient forwarding it on to one or more of their friends. It's the modern day gossip fence.

For the record, I know from personal experience that DIS webmasters can and do read others' PMs on occasion.....so while you may like to say that DIS webmasters have better things to do, some apparently don't.

A bigger issue I have is when webmasters share info about DIS posters with other boards....

Whats even worse than a person who gossips, is a person who has the gall to call themselves a friend and then forwards a private message, all under the guise of "friendship". I had this happen to me once, someone forwarded me a PM that someone had written to them, about me. I was more disturbed with the person who forwarded the message than the person who wrote the message. I saw no reason to discuss what one person said privately to another, even if it was about me. Ick.

I have always said that gossip is entertainment for those who have no lives of their own. And as being a subject for gossip here and in real life, I can tell you that 99% of the time what is being said is not even true. I can't say that I've never gossiped, but I am burdened about it and I can say that when I have, it's because I wasn't happy in my own life.

Bonnie, that's ashame. I think that private messages should be kept private unless both parties consent to exposing them. That's just common courtesy.

i have had a pm here read by a third party. i KNOW that the person i sent the pm to did not fwd it to the third party.

i never put anything really private in pm's anymore.

Well, I'm not sure but I wouldn't want to think person A was my friend and was stabbing me in the back. So, if someone informed me it was happening then I'd have the choice of being so friendly with person A or keeping my guard up. Then I'd have to deal with person B. Maybe it is ick for person B but maybe they are trying to open your eyes to being snowballed by someone who really isn't your friend. Maybe I'm way off base.

Chip, I can't believe that happened to you! That is awful. Maybe some of mine were read and that is why I haven't got a tag.

I'd be surprised to know that someone poster's PMs weren't read during heated moments around here.

I hope while at the Dells you rode the coasters!! Zeus is a pretty good woodie!! I hope you had a good time at the Dells and arent broke as it is quite expensive. As for speeding i dont run radar but you have to be careful as it is enforced not for safety but to generate revenue IMHO.
