That they can't even put their own cream and sugar in their coffee at McDonald's now?? :confused3

Is there any other reason people wouldn't want to put their own cream and sugar in their coffee??

I go to Starbucks all of the time for coffee, and I grab my Splenda from the little bar thingy and am on my way. Imagine my amazement when one of my friends told me that she always has them put the sugar in for her because she never gets it right herself.

Is this common?

Tara, when that older man told the young lady working the counter to "Gimme Sugar" he wasn't asking her to fix his coffee

I assumed it was a change initiated by McDonald's, not by consumer choice. My guess would be that McDonald's figured out that it saved them money by putting in the cream and sugar themselves, rather than giving a number of packets of the two items with each coffee.

It's not laziness. McD's is trying to lure more customers in by providing a "service" similar to Starbucks. They introduced a new "premium roast" coffee and they will "customize" it per your specifications.

Not lazy; just a marketing campaign.

I don't think it's a matter of laziness...if you are driving, which I bet most people are when they get their McDonalds coffee, it's certainly easier and safer for them to put your cream and sugar in it. Trying to juggle coffee, cream, sugar and driving can't be a good combination.

That being said. I am sad that this is the case now. I LOVE my McDonalds coffee and I LOVE making it myself(DH drives :rotfl: ). They don't get it right.

I wouldn't trust them to get it right, either. :confused3

I guess people who prefer to make it themselves now have to ask for cream and sugar "on the side". :rotfl:

I've seen this in the drive thru, but haven't used it myself.

That said, when they used to ask me how many creams and sugars, I would say ONE cream. They would always (and I mean always) proceed to hand me at least 3 creams and 3 sugars... :confused3

Dunkin' Donuts does this as well.

It's not about being lazy, it's about a company offering a service to try and compete with other coffee places.

Oh yea, I'm totally that lazy. Seriously.

It's a drive-through thing. I really don't want to be stirring in cream and sugar off of my lap in my work clothes.

They can put in the cream but never the sugar (regardless of the place)- I add splenda (I'm diabetic) and just feel that sometimes the employees can't be bothered to open a packet and might be putting in sugar instead - I'm not saying that anyone is, just a thing I have. I have had the experience of them not having enough decaf coffee and filling the rest of the cup with regular coffee before at a coffee joint - actually saw them do it and then denied it until I told them I saw it, then they said "well, there wasn't enough decaf." Um, brew another pot or at least ask me if I can have the regular.

This is the "zero tolerance" of customer service! "1 sugar 2 creams you say? here's 3 of each." It eliminates "judgment and common sense" from condiment dispensing.

I've seen this at Krispe Kreame too. I think the coffee gets "made" that way, or some automated system puts the cream/sugar in. I've never seen the employees actually open up a thing of cream and dump it in. I was always affraid to try it since I'm picky about how much cream/sugar gets put in my coffee, but I tried it once and it was perfect!

I go to Dunkin all the time for coffee and I love how they do that. It's not about being lazy, I just want my coffee to taste good with minimal mess. When I go through the drive through window, I don't want to be making a mess inside my vehicle trying to mix my coffee the way I like it.

Plus Dunkin Donuts does it the correct way. They put in real cream and sugar in the bottom of the cup, then add the coffee. It mixes perfectly without having to mess with it. You can't compare the coffee from McDonald's to Dunkin Donuts, it's not even close, IMO.

I am always very afraid of ordering coffee from anywhere anymore because of this. If DH even leaves a couple of tablespoons of regular in the coffee pot before he makes my decaf I will be shaky, dizzy and have anxiety all day. I would be VERY angry if a coffee place intentionally gave me regular!

I love dunkin donuts coffee, however, I am also a huge fan of Mcdonalds coffee. I prefer it to barneys or starbucks. That's just me though. ;)

I don't trust any of those places to get my cream and sugar right. I'm really really picky about how I like my coffee and they don't get it right very often. I'd much prefer to add my own in, then I know when it's just right. :) I never get coffee in the drive thru, either. Since I'm so finicky about it, I always go inside to fix it (granted, I never get coffee on weekdays, so I always have plenty of time to go in and fix it my way).

When I heard McDonalds advertising that they now "customize your coffee" by adding the cream and sugar, I really didn't get what the big deal was because every drive through does this. I agree it's a lot less messy!
