Are people more easily offended these days?

I know it's not my place to say what type of behavior offends others, but it seems to me that people tend to get offended over almost anything lately.

I brought in some extra tomatoes from my garden to share with coworkers. I placed them in the common area with a sign that said "free to a good home." A couple hours later, I can hear one of my coworkers on the phone talking about the tomatoes and complaining that she would have liked some but she came in late because of a morning dr. appointment. I hear here tell the person on the phone "Well, I guess DisneyBeagle doesn't care who she offends. She should have waited until everyone was at work before giving the tomatoes away."

Really? She's offended because I didn't equally divide up the FREE tomatoes? Come on people, this isn't a family inheritance we're talking about, it's FREE produce.

My MIL is offended because her neighbor didn't wave when she drove by. I kindly said maybe the neighbor didn't see her, but nope MIL said "She is always doing stuff like that which offends me." Come to think of it, my MIL uses the "offended" word a lot.

A friend is having a super small wedding (like 50 or less people) and she isn't able to invite every one that she would like to invite. One of my other friends mentioned the other day that she will be offended if she doesn't get an invitation. I can see that it might hurt her feelings, but I don't understand being offended.

Perhaps I have a different definition of what the word offended means?

Maybe the word "offended" is like the word "bully" - the definition can be as broad or as narrow as you like. ;)

I'm sorry but:lmao::lmao:. If i was there she would of been offended by me eating them for lunch. Or maybe even for breakfast, I love tomatoes.

I think that people are offended by the weirdest things nowadays and I don't see why. I let most things just go by without caring much but it seems like so many people are just looking for problems from others. Seriously, who cares what most people think anyway?

By the way, you were nice to bring in tomatoes and that co-worker is a twit.

I'm offended that you would say that and now I think you're a bully :lmao:

Seriously, I think that you are right. I think both words are used too often.

I work in an office with other women and occasionally someone gets their panties in a twist over the stupidest things. So I hear ya. Am I exempt, not entirely, but I try to shrug and get over it. Some just want to pick a little talk a little bout everything and there is nothing to do about it but shrug and move on, lol.

My guess is the co-worker wasn't offended at all. She said that stuff loud enough during her phone conversation so that you would feel guilted into bringing in some tomatoes "just for her".

People like that amuse me with their little tricks.

Yes, I think people are spending much more time these days finding ways to be offended.

Yeah, this!

I don't know if people are offended more easily but they seem to be more selfish AND vocal about it. I mean, this girl wasn't really "offended" was she? She was pouting because SHE didn't get something that she thought she should have.

It's all a part of the entitlement mentality that has been around for years. God, 20 years ago, no one would have given it a second thought and if they were bummed about missing home grown tomatoes (and who wouldn't be???), they would have had the good sense to shut up about it. I swear, everyone has stopped mentally aging at about 12 years old.

I'm offended that you even started a post like this. :snooty: :lmao: Kidding of course.

Unfortunately there are those people out there who are just looking for something to complain and be offended with. Those people get annoying after a while and then get offended with me when I try to ignore them. :rotfl: I just nod, smile and move on my way. :goodvibes

Wait until you find a couple of tomatoes with worm holes or where a bird has eaten a bite out of it - bring those in as a "special" treat just for her.

BAM! Don't you know it.

I think people use gossip and manipulation to try and get their way.

We can call them the "feigned offenders".:lmao:

Yep. Supreme manipulators. They have "offended" down to an art form where they can manipulate to get what they want.

Once you have been around a few of these characters, it becomes easy to spot their ilk.

If you know her schedule you could wait until she is late again or out and bring in more tomatoes, or even doughnuts for everybody.

I can't stand manipulative people!
