I've read that light cards are needed on all Disney cruise ships, and also read that they are only necessary on the Dream and Fantasy. I am just wondering which information is correct. Thank you in advance!

No card slot for the Magic on our recent cruise. Or the Wonder last Oct.

Concur with no card slot on Magic for 1st deck interior cabins 3 months ago.

I do believe that the Wonder and Magic have light switches...........no need for cards.

The Dream and Fantasy have the card slot to turn on the lights, TV, and A/C in the room...............no switches.

Although the card slots on the Dream and Fantasy control the lights and TV, they do NOT affect the AC, or the refrigerator, or the desk outlets. So, there's little reason to always have a card in the slot, unless you value keeping an empty room well lit and entertained. I realize that in many hotels, the card slots also control the AC, and that's why they get a bad reputation, but that's not the case on DCL.

Thank you for the information! :) This will be our first cruise so we've never been on any of the ships.

They absolutely do control the desk outlets, found that out the hard way when leaving a phone in the room to charge and coming back to it still dead. They did at least fix it so it doesn't control the air conditioning, which it originally did.

Yes to both instances. I remember taking the card out on our first Dream cruise and coming back to a very hot room because the air went off. As for the desk outlets, yes it turns them off when you take the card out. We left camera batteries to charge and discovered the green lights off when we came back, only to discover there was no power without the card!

I've never had a problem with the air conditioning turning off or the desk outlets not working.
Keep in mind that the rooms and hallways will feel warmer because especially on the lower decks because they have the large doors open for people to get off and on the ship. Also many people leave their veranda doors open. This makes it harder to keep the ship cool.
