i have been on three dcl cruises. i have had one really great stateroom attendant that was a lady. i have had one really great head server that was a lady. all the other head servers ,server, asst server, stateroom attendant were men. they didnt do as good of a job as the ladies. there was one that was really bad the other ones were ok to good. but of all the men none was really great. does anybody else think this also that the ladies do a better job then the men? btw if you were wondering im a guy writing this

I do not think one gender has been better than another in any of our DCL cruises...I do not think you can generalize like that. We have had some fantastic dining room staff of both genders and fantastic room stewards of both genders.

Your experience was your experience. Everyone will have their own experience but again, I don't think you can generalize which gender is better.

Interesting question that I've thought about as well.

In 8 DCL cruises we have had pretty much a full range of experiences with stateroom attendants and servers. None have been what I would call bad, but others were outstanding. I think the two female stateroom attendants we've had were absolutely outstanding - both were on the Magic. We have had three male dining room servers that were outstanding - two on the Magic and one on the Wonder (they are all still onboard and we request them whenever we cruise). The best assistant server we have ever had was a female on the Wonder just a couple of weeks ago. Even though we were only onboard for 4 days, we felt like she was almost part of the family by the end of the cruise. We would have gladly brought her home with us, if we could have.

Truthfully, I don't know as we have only ever had men. Our stateroom host in 08 was fine, but nothing to write home about. and our serving team in 08was mediocre at best. The server was trying hard, but the asst server was slacking big time so the server was trying to do both jobs. Two nights the server was really on his game, the other two nights, not soo much....
Last month, our stateroom host was fab. You could always find him around if you needed something. Our serving team was wonderful too. They were both 'seasoned' though. Last year's team, only one was 'seasoned'. Actually, this year, one of our servers (don't remember if it was server or asst server tho) went above and beyond. Gave us puzzles and brain teasers to work on while we waited. Told a couple of funny jokes. Was really really personable. Now being able to compare 2 cruises, I have seen both sides. But again, all were men. So I can't give you a comparison, but can say that there are some fab male servers/stateroom hosts though.
Hope you have a great cruise!!! :goodvibes

I don't think it has anything to do with gender. It's only a coincidence if you end up with one gender being better or worse than the other. In my case, the only truly bad server I've ever experienced on DCL was a woman. She did nothing right. By the third evening of a 7-night sailing, my roommate and I were the only ones left at her table. On all my other Disney cruises, all my servers were men. All were at least good. A few were excellent and when possible I requested them on later cruises. And I guess because of my experiences, I prefer male servers.

Funny about room stewards - The only time I ever had a female room attendant, I never saw her. The room was magically cleaned, bed made, trash emptied, ice bucket filled . . by this invisible woman. Never even saw her in the corridors. :confused3

Echo..not a gender issue, but an individual one. Yes, we have had a wonderful head server and a couple of wonderful room hostesses. However, we've also had totally wonderful male head servers, as well as some who were jerks (OK, one who was a jerk). I really think it depends on the people, not their gender.

We were delighted about 2 years ago to start seeing female head servers. For a long time it seemed that they were all male, but now we see women who have been promoted thru the ranks.

In 70 Disney cruises we have had the full range and I can't say I've noticed a trend of one sex being better than the other. Lately tho' our stateroom hosts have all been male...I think it's been a while since we've had a female.

We've had 2 female stateroom hostesses. Both amazing. No male host yet. Our serving team for both cruises have only been men. First cruise they were mediocre. This past cruise, they were amazing. So yes, individual not gender.

We had one stateroom attendant that was not very good, seemed to rather being doing something else or maybe in need of a vacation themselves. To our surprise we had the same attendant on our next cruise and it was as if they were a totally different person, went over and beyond...... fantastic!

We never complained the first time but tipped based on the service. The second time with this same person we rewarded them geneorously for cleaning up their act. Like us all, they are only human and sometimes life gets in the way of how we carry out our duties.

Yep, you never know what might be going on with a person onboard. We did casual dining once, and as we were leaving one of the head people asked how our service had been. We replied that it was fine (which it was) and learned that a close relative of his had just died...I guess they were checking up to make sure he was still okay to work. I had aboslutely no idea. I also remember a few years back when the hurricane was hitting Jamaica. There are many people on board from that island and I can just imagine they were going crazy with worry about their relatives.

i started this thread and i just got off a cruise. all 4 tip people were men. had a really really great stateroom host. room was always cleaned great and i never had to wait on him. leave the room put the sign up to service stateroom and when i came back it was always done and done right. the server was great also. the asst server and head server were good not great but nothing to complain about.
