Are "heelies" allowed in the parks?

This post was not even for you, it was in response to another poster. I am flabbergasted, though that an adult would purchase such non-sense as a pair of heelys. While you are blasting me, you need to also say somehting to the other posters here as well and not just pick me out of the crowd.

I would also like to know what this is going to "cost" me. I am not angry, resentful, or holier-than-though, so I don't know where you got that either. I just like to look out for the welfare for others. I watch out for myself and my mother who also uses an ECV, so it would be nice if parents would look out for their children who are on wheels that are banned.

Suzanne princess:

Anyone that would even make a comment such as yours saying op's child is likely to become a jd is certainly very holier-than thou. You have some nerve to even suggest it or assume it. What makes you so righteous?

Well, that is usually where the rule breakers end up isn't it? I'm sorry if it offends you in any manner. I am so sorry that my mother raised me with manners and I plan on raising any children I have with the same manners. I am alot better off because my mom didn't allow me to reak the rules. I look at the many rule breakers I went to school wth and they sure haven't ended up as successful as I have. Rulebreaking is exactly why there are so many hoodlums out there and where do they end up, in trouble.

I wasn't referring to the Op's child, because she is an adult, I was referring to the comments you made earlier.

Yep, I'm all out, had to come and get a refill..

Oh man, this is cracking me up. The OP already got an answer and acknowledged it. But to still make rude comments like "tell her she'll get dirty looks"??? What is that! Or to make fun of her because she offered advice to an adult daughter?
I truly don't feel anybody was making fun of the OP, or being nasty to or about her in any way. I think the astonishment is that the adult daughter has to be told (by anyone) that she can't use a recreational item - which is banned in so many places anyway - in a theme park.

Respectfull, I disagree. Not going to argue it...it's been done
Lots of rules "have been fudged" in theme parks and elsewhere, that aren't right/acceptable/sensible.

I would let you all in on a secret regarding fast passes to but since your all holier-than-thou we'll just wave at you while your standing in line when we walk by.
Oh? Which of the not-actually-secret "secrets" would you share, if you were going to?

Sorry, no salt. But I did just order a pizza. You like mushrooms, ham, and peperoni? I'll save you a slice!:)

Sure. I can pick off the mushrooms. Who'd wanna eat those anyway? They're a fungus and they grow them in manure! :scared1:

I'll bring soda. Coke or Pepsi? (Remember Disney is a Coke world.)

I don't know if anyone else has posted it, but heelies cause just as many injuries as roller blades and according to ER doctors shouldn't be used without safety equipment.
Not just ER Doctors... According to the Heelys website, "...we highly recommend its use when the wheels are in the shoes. "

To be fair, the quote you posted wasn't by bradk. It was by me.

Height Requirements are a safety issue. They are right, acceptable, and sensible, and may not be "fudged".

Hey Mom and Dad,

don't any of you worry about lawsuits?

Disney Park = 10 people per square foot, all walking in different directions, and not watching for your little monster on wheels

Kids = people that have poor judgment

lawsuit = when your kids hits a stroller and fall on a baby, or .... knocks down another kid who breaks his arm.

Will your insurance company pay? Maybe not, you were breaking a posted rule.

Insurance companies have a way of getting out of paying when its NOT an accident
Disney post they are against the rule...so Mom or Dad gets the Lawsuit not Disney
I can almost guarantee that in a situation where one guest was injured by another guest wearing Heelys, Disney would be the one getting sued.

Similarly, if a parent sneaks their too-short child onto a ride with a height requirement, and the child is injured, you can bet your bottom dollar that Disney will wind up getting sued for not taking more stringent actions in preventing the child from riding.

Not allowed, but saw plenty of them in the parks from Nov. 26th thru Dec. 4th.. All over DTD as well..

We were there on the same dates as you and sadly have to agree. The parks were full of heelies. And not watching where they went or ran into either! :sad2:

Went to Epcot today - arrived at the park right around Noon - sure enough there were kids with heelies..........rolling right up to the ticket turnstiles. I came really, really close to saying something to the Mom with the two boys, but................. Then I figured of course a CM will see it & say something, nope, didn't happen. So I just made sure whatever direction they headed, DH & I went the opposite direction!! :rolleyes1

We just returned from our trip to WDW and the heelies were out in full force. Every day I saw someone wearing them and the majority of the time they were traveling waaaaaay too fast (IMO). Even my daughter (who originally wanted to take them) commented on the nuisance they created!
Never did see them at the park entrances though, only inside the parks...

I almost wish that someone would bring a lawsuit. Not that I want anyone hurt, but it seems that a lawsuit is the only thing that would make Disney actally enforce this rule! They are putting themselves in a bad spot by having a rule, and not making any effort to make sure it is followed. It would serve them right if they did loose a ton of money over this.

As a newcomer to these boards, I'd like to thank everyone for interspersing the serious discussion in this thread with a humorous summary of all of the hot-button issues here (and every board does have them, don't they?). It was a perfect introductory read for this newbie. ;)

Actually, Heelys is NOT a sponsor of the marathon or half marathon. They are a sponsor of the Heelys Kids Race & Roll and will be presenting a demonstation on Friday and Saturday at WWoS.

How much you want to bet that the Heelys team will be wearing helmets and other safety gear and will require kids to wear safety gear for the Race & Roll?

Where is the rule "posted"? I've never seen a sign. It's going to be hard for Disney to get around their liability when they don't have the rule clearly posted and don't have a history of enforcing the rule. I work for an insurance company and when there is a lawsuit, the court decides, not the insurance company. Disney would probably settle out of court because it's one that they would not win. Also, if the parents would be sued, their homeowners would have to defend them and pay because there is no exclusion for breaking rules, especially when the rule was not clearly posted.
