I know they use to be a banned item, but I could not find anything on the TSA website. Can these remain in my sneakers or do I need to pack them in my checked luggage.

I completely forgot I had them in my shoes when I flew this summer until you mentioned this. It didn't occur to me that they might be banned. Fortunately my shoes came through security with the gel soles intact. No one said anything. Now I'm curious as to whether they are really allowed. I have another trip coming up next month.

Now that I think more about it. I've had these Gel soles on at least four trips through airport security (8 times including outbound/return) with no issues so I'm guessing it's allowed.

Edit: It turns out they are not allowed but security always seems to pass mine through. TSA Prohibited Items

I would suggest leaving them in your shoes, sending them through xray, and also keep a spare pair in your checked bag in case they confiscate them at security. Or, you could just put them in your checked bag.

Thank you, I completely missed them in the prohibited items, must have been too tired last night when I was looking. They are easily removed so I'll just put them in my checked luggage. I'll be fine walking w/o them until the luggage gets to our room.
