Are Flipflops OK for WDW?

I hate shoes, so as soon as it's above 50 degrees, I'll only wear flip flops. I went about 14 hours straight at MK and never had a problem, I just found some thicker soled (not the huge ones, only an inch or so thick) flip flops with felt lined thongs and brought some moleskin just in case. I never did use it and my feet never hurt. HTH!

ETA- I too just buy cheap ones ($10 is the most I've ever spent on a pair) and I did bring back-up shoes JIC.

I've got a really silly question about Crocs... to me it kind of looks like when it's hot, your feet would get really sweaty in them... but I guess not? :confused3

Suzy

My feet sweat ALL of the time and I have never had any problems with my Crocs bring hot or sticky.

My DD had a pair of knock offs from Payless and wore a hole in the sole so I got her actual Crocs for the second pair. She said they are alot more comfortable!

Note that they fit like Berkenstocks so they are molded to your feet after wearing them a few times. I suggest 'breaking them in' without socks.

We have a hard time finding them in town here so I always order from Nordstroms or go to the hospital gift shop (nurses love them).

flip-flops are good but beware that walking a lot means sweaty feet which means stinky feet!! has anyone ever been in an enclosed room with a bunch of people and you just SMELL that funky odor that comes from feet? YUCK.

HOWEVER, it is nice going on some water rides and not having wet socks and shoes for the whole day!

The last 2 years I wore Tevas niyatis and love them. I can go the enire trip usualy 9 days without my feet hurting at all. :goodvibes

I live in flip flops and while thy'd probably look silly with a tie (which i don't wear anyway) I've found that they can be as dressy as you want. Go for it.

Can someone inform this old lady what "crocs" are???

Well ... they're a type of reptile, commonly found in Africa, can grow to be up to 20 feet long, and their jaws can snap shut with a pressure of up to 1200 pounds per square inch.

:teeth: :rolleyes1

i wore 2 different types of flip-flops when i went. i just didn't want to deal with sneakers and socks. i had no problemns whatsoever when i wore them. my feet hurt a bit by the end of the day, but that's normal for being in Disney all day. just make sure you don't care if your feet get wet. i got caught in a downpour once. i didn't mind tho, i just took my sandals off and kept walking lol. princess:

My mature feet can't handle flip flops, so I alternate well-broken-in sneakers and Birkenstock's with a backstrap for the parks, with an extra pair of Birkenstock slides (newer, dressier style) for evening and "light" duty. The slides also act as slippers.

I love flipflops! I know people recommend Crocs, but I just don't think they'd be comfortable without socks & I really don't like socks in the summer. However, if it means no blisters, then I guess it's my best choice. I did, however, notice that there are now Croc flipflops available. Do you think these will work for WDW or are socks a necessity?

11 of us went for 8 days. Only the 4 who only wore broken in tennis shoes and nice padded socks suffered no blisters. Fashion can go to the birds. Save your feet. Bring moleskin. It will save your life if you do get a blister.

I have worn flip-flops the past 3 or 4 years and never had a problem...EXCEPT...on the tops of my feet where the thongs of the flip flop crosses over top it rubbed a bit ONE TIME...but only ONCE...i must've been having a fat foot day pirate:

but other than that I love them! I cramped my feet into my soccer shoes and ballet shoes for far too long

SET THE FEET FREE!!! :hippie:

Are you saying that flip flops make your feet smell? In my experience, it's the people wearing the sneakers, whose feet haven't had fresh air in hours, who have stinky feet. ;)

In case you couldn't tell, I'm a flip flop gal. But like several others, I wear them them non-stop all summer long. I also work at an outdoor job where I have to stand in my flip-flops on concrete all day long, so I don't have a problem at all. If you're used to walking in them, by all means, wear them. They're easier to deal with if it rains than sneakers and socks, you won't get tan lines from wearing socks *shudders*, and they'll keep your feet cool. But if you're not used to them, DW isn't the best place to try them out. Definitely take a pair of sneakers and try flip flops for one day at the parks, then wear the sneakers the rest of the trip if they don't work out.

Be sure to buy good quality flip-flops, not cheapies. I bought a pair of Nike flips last year and lived in them last summer. They were about $20. They were extremely comfortable - the top part was made of a neoprene-type material (like scuba suits). They had a nice, cushiony sole and had some "give" to them (I hate the cheap flips that don't bend with your feet). I love them!

My DD and I wore flips a couple of days during our last trip and it would have been great except for PEOPLE STEPPING ON THE BACKS OF THEM! I love flip-flops and wear them nine months out of the year but I guess there were just too many people to wear them without getting stepped on. The broken toe story mentioned by another poster is enough to convince me not to try it again. OUCH!

I wore Teva flip flops for a week long trip in October and my feet have never been so comfortable. I really liked them and will wear them again. The only time I had trouble was when it rained. They got slippery and I couldn't keep them on my feet BUT they dried very quickly after being wet.

I'm going with the flip-flops on this too. I buy tons and tons of them from Old Navy (in every color, of course) and I wear them until my feet start to freeze in the winter and as soon as they begin to thaw in the spring, so for me to walk in them all day long is no biggie. But onthe hot pavement in socks and tennies, I am so uncomfortable. It's all about personal preference, though, as is obvious bythis thread! I am definitely going to give the Croc flip-flops a try this year- I hate the regular crocs (how is this a trend?)- but the flip-flops are cute.

MosMom is right, Teva flipflop are the ultimate. We live in Florida now and I wear them non-stop except on the rare occasions where I'm forced to wear a tie and they last about nine months. And on the issue of sweaty feet, I'm not a scientist but I think as long as there is nothing on your feet that can absorb the sweat, it won't stink. The funk begins when leather or cloth absorbs the sweat......

Wore flip flops one day and it started raining. I was slipping in and out of them and was very uncomfortable. Could not keep up with DH (but dont tell him I said that.)

Seems this thread is kinda dead but I had to make a comment.

I had read about Reef Fanning flip flops here before and finally got a pair. What a comfortable shoe! I am extremely flat footed and typically cannot wear flip flops on vacations but these are the exception. I have not worn them to WDW (usually go in Jan) although have worn them on every vaacation this summer with no problems. And yes, lots and lots of walking just like at WDW.

I own the croc flip flops and wore them for 5 days at WDW in May and had no problems whatsoever, but I did make sure when I was applying sunscreen to include the tops of my feet, I saw a few teenagers with sunburn on the tops.
