Are Flipflops OK for WDW?

it really depends on what you like. i personally get a new pair of sneakers that are very comfy and wear them for like 2 weeks or more before disney. but no matter what you do make sure you break them in because you will be doing a ton of walking and disney is the worst place to have you feet start hurting.

:thumbsup2
The best for WDW is your most comfortable walking shoes or sneakers.

Ok let me just warn you, something really strange happened to my ankles last year when I wore flip flops. I wear flip flops all of the time at home and never have a problem. I wore them on the first day of my trip last year and I started noticing toward the end of the day that my ankles were hurting really bad. By the time I got back to the resort both of my ankles were swollen up about 10x their normal size, you couldn't see the bone at all, they were bigger than my legs. It was really freaky.

I guess becuase I was walking so much and I didn't have any ankle support this happened. I had to buy ace bandages and wrap my ankles up and even then I could barely walk and had to spend a portion of my trip in a wheel chair. No fun at all.

Needless to say I will be sticking to my new balance tennis shoes this year.

I would suggest Reef flip flops. I wore them on my last trip and walked ALL DAY in them and felt just fine. I do not have the best feet (high arches, need a lot of support) and the Reefs worked great!

Which style Reefs did you wear? I've been thinking about getting Reefs but I can't decide which style to get. So far, it's narrowed down to Fanning, Slap, Sting Raye and Sandy.

If you're not used to flips, WDW certainly isn't the place to try them out. I live in flip like the poster from Maine (April - October). I have dressy ones, casual one, high ones, low ones....so for me its a no brainer. Flips all the way. My flips of choice for walking are Teva

I am someone who wears flip flops from April-October and I brought mine with me to Disney. I wore my sneakers and like other people, my feet were so hot. I wore my flip flops one day and wish I hadn't. My ankles and shins were killing me by midafternoon. It was just too much walking with those things on. I won't even try it on our next trip. I recommend definately having a back up pair of sneakers in case your feet are killing you.

I hear you! There is no way i could wear flip-flops all day. I wouldn't be able to walk the next day. :sad2:

If you're used to flip-flops, don't need the arch support, don't mind if your toes get mashed a bit, wear them. But bring a back up just in case :thumbsup2

i have all Sandy style, and they worked fine for all day walking at WDW. i've heard good things about the others, though.

wore my Flips on our first WDW trip frist week of December and had no problem ... BUT that's all I wear all summer and indoors around the house in the winter. AND they are not the cheap kind!! My DH & Kids wore their Columbias and they also had no problems.
NO socks for us it was just too HOT !!

I personally think the Crocs are ugly DD 7 loves them. My walking shoe of choice is my Keen Newport II. They are closed toe sandal style so no smashed toes, waterproof and have excellent arch support and no socks needed.

Just my .02 worth

Crocs are sandals and clogs made from a very light, soft resin. They come in many colors and at least three styles. They have no metal, so they're great through airports, and I found them to be the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Sometimes I have to look down to see if I'm wearing them! The're waterproof and, if they get wet, you can just dry them with a paper towel -- no wait time! On-line you can get them from Zappos, Nordstroms and directly from Crocs.

I've got a really silly question about Crocs... to me it kind of looks like when it's hot, your feet would get really sweaty in them... but I guess not? :confused3

I took a pair of Merrell thongs. I love flip flops, and really don't wear anything else in the summer. But, for the amount of walking in WDW, I didn't trust my flip flops to give me enought support. (Mine are not cheap either-$20 a pair) Merrell is a brand that makes a lot of hiking/walking type of shoe, so they have good arch support, even in sandal style. This is the style I got: http://www.merrell.com/Shop/Detail.aspx?NavID=FT-TW-LAS&PID=9743
There are also some other cute styles.

I was a HUGE flip flop fan until I broke my toe while wearing them YOUCH! I will be looking at some closed toe options for this coming summer. I can still see my little toe pointing in a direction ONE toe alone should never point....

i have some merrell sports sandals (got them in a kids' size so they were EXTRA cheap.. lol) and they are THE most comfy shoes EVER... you don't have to worry about them slipping off like flip flops... your feet are cool... you can even wear them on the beach (they don't get stuck in the sand!) and in the water! i would HIGHLY reccommend something similar!

Ouch. I don't like flip flops for smilar reasons, but not nearly that painful!

My SIL open toe sandel got caught getting out of the back of her Jeep when we were at CP. We spent 4 hours in the ER getting her leg stiched up. Not fun. :guilty:
